📕Story Background

One afternoon, a couple, both appearing very wealthy, entered a jewelry specialty store. The husband informed the clerk that it was their wedding anniversary and they intended to select some jewelry for his wife. The clerk enthusiastically introduced various designs to them, and the couple decided to try them on first.

They then presented a VIP card, a card held by only a few customers, symbolizing their status and credibility. Consequently, the clerk provided them with a private fitting room and sent the jewelry in according to their requests. The couple spent the entire afternoon in the store, trying on nearly half of the jewelry. Finally, they decided to purchase a set of necklaces and a pair of bracelets.

As the cashier prepared to check them out, a clerk suddenly noticed that the wife seemed very nervous, her hand trembling slightly as she held a stainless steel thermos. The husband explained with a smile that his wife had a neurological condition and needed to take medication every half hour, which was why she carried the cup with her. He showed the medication in his pocket and opened the cup for the clerk to see, revealing it to be full of coffee.

The wife apologized to the clerk with a smile and took a sip of coffee to prove that it was indeed only coffee. The clerk was somewhat puzzled; she felt that something was wrong but couldn't pinpoint the issue.

At this point, the husband took out a pill and handed it to his wife, who took the pill and drank some coffee. Then, the husband took out his credit card to pay. Suddenly, the clerk realized what was going on and called the police without hesitation.

Soon, the police found four pieces of jewelry in the coffee cup, which they had replaced with fakes. After investigation, the police discovered that their VIP card was actually forged. How did the clerk discover their suspicious behavior?
