More benefits, more surprises
🎄 On a christmas morning, in a park, this happened...🎄
📕Story Background
Early on Christmas morning, Mr. Townsend, a retired postmaster, set out for his usual walk in the park. He planned to visit a gift shop afterward to buy Christmas presents for his family. However, a few hours later, tragedy struck—his lifeless body was discovered near a park trail.
Mr. Townsend had a red mark around his neck, consistent with strangulation, and his valuables had all been stolen. The police arrived promptly, and after their initial investigation, they determined it was a calculated robbery and murder. The attacker had used items readily available at the scene and fled, leaving no trace of a weapon. The investigation revealed three potential suspects who were in the park that morning:
Mr. McGann
A man walking his dog early that morning. He claimed he had done nothing except stop to take pictures of the Christmas tree in the park's plaza.
Mrs. Carden
An elderly woman in frail health who enjoys crafting. She was seated on a park bench knitting Christmas stockings for her grandchildren with red wool. She insisted she had been entirely focused on her knitting and only learned of the murder later.
Charlie the Painter
An artist sketching a landscape painting of the park, which prominently featured the Christmas tree. He mentioned seeing Mr. McGann walking his dog and Mr. Townsend jogging, but claimed he paid them no attention.
The police believed the murderer used an item at hand to commit the crime. The challenge was identifying the culprit and the weapon.

----- Previous answer (Mrs. Emory's Emerald) -------
The thief was B Klaus.
It occurred to Mrs. Emory that the thief must be color-blind, for instead of stealing only the emerald, he had then stolen all the stones, just to let his accomplice pick the emerald out of the pile, and so Mrs. Emory judged at once that Klaus, who was wearing one brown sock and one blue sock, was color-blind.
