💠Introduction

What’s up, folks? Welcome back to my Illusion Battlefield (IB) series, where I take a closer look at different matches. IB is different from the IB League tournament in that you will use your normal teams, skill sets, talents, and decoration skins, so strength is extremely relevant. The mode is also much slower-paced. Relocations and marching speed are slower. The event is one of the most entertaining events in Infinity Kingdom, and players enjoy spectating, almost like a sporting event. In this article, I’m going to take a closer look at the regular season match between Server 56’s Hakuna Matata(HMB) and Server 209’s Hungry Kitties(HK).

💠Overview

HMB enters this matchup as the clear underdog. While they recently gained migrators from Server 231, most of those additions are mid-level players, whereas HK added a few maxed players from Server 38. HK also comes in with far stronger recent IBL pedigree after reaching the finals, while HMB has not performed as well and does not appear to prioritize the event as heavily. Given the power gap, roster quality, and tournament experience, HK should have the advantage.

💠Starting Positions and Talents

HMB

  • Started with 31 players and ended with 36
  • 19 Attack talents
  • 11 Defense talents
  • 1 Support talents

HK

  • Started with 33 players and ended with 40
  • 20 Attack talents
  • 11 Defense talents
  • 2 Support talents

💠Tower 1

HMB sent 9 players to Tower 1 while HK committed 13. HK’s formation was much more organized overall, but they clustered too heavily on the right side of the tower, with some players sitting as far back as the fourth row; they should have shifted a couple members into the front row on the top side instead. HMB attempted to control the left and top sides, but the better play was to secure the left and bottom sides. The top side is farther from HMB’s spawn, which makes those relocations vulnerable if HK times their landings correctly and arrives first.

💠Tower 4

HMB effectively gave up Tower 4, but one player failed to follow the plan and relocated there alone while HK committed 11 players. That lone HMB member should immediately cancel the relocation rather than land, get zeroed, wait to respawn, and then spend several more minutes trying to relocate elsewhere. Against 11 HK players, there is no realistic value in completing the move, and it becomes a massive waste of time and tempo.

💠Central Tower

HMB committed 14 players to the Central Tower while HK sent only 3. With such a massive disadvantage in numbers, HK’s center group had virtually no chance of holding the area and those players would have been far more valuable reinforcing one of the outer towers instead. Against 14 opponents, they were always going to be overwhelmed before the tower even opened.

💠Altars

HMB sent one player to the Sun Altar while HK sent one to the Moon Altar.

💠Home Towers

HMB stationed four guards at their home tower and HK had one at theirs. One HMB player also tried to relocate to HK’s home tower, which would inevitably get destroyed so he should immediately cancel once HK showed up at the tower.

💠Play-by-Play

At Tower 1, HK opened by destroying three relocations, immediately creating a huge numbers advantage. They zeroed another HMB player shortly afterward, but HMB kept sending reinforcements back because HK could not clear the remaining defenders quickly enough. Over time, HK blocked and destroyed more incoming relocations while steadily advancing to surround the tower. HMB managed to stall for a while, but HK’s constant rallies gradually wore them down. Eventually, HK eliminated the final three defenders near the objective, occupied their positions, and captured Tower 1 at the 17-minute mark.

At Tower 4, HK immediately destroyed the lone HMB relocation, removing any chance of resistance. With the area completely uncontested, HK captured the tower with ease. After securing the objective, several HK players began rotating toward the outskirts of the Central Tower to pressure HMB’s main concentration. In the middle, HMB quickly zeroed one HK player before shifting focus to the remaining two. HK attempted to send three reinforcements back from spawn, but HMB blocked every relocation and then eliminated the last two defenders. With the area cleared, HMB captured the Central Tower at the 13-minute mark, securing the most important objective on the map. From there, some HMB players stayed to surround and stabilize the center, while others moved to control the altars and prepare a potential siege on HK’s home tower.

At the 16-minute mark, an HMB player used the Sun Altar to relocate into HK’s Tower 2, where only two defenders were stationed. One guard made the mistake of moving away instead of canceling his relocation, leaving the tower with just one effective defender. HK tried to reinforce with two players from spawn, but HMB destroyed one of the incoming relocations, then teleported three more players into the area. HMB quickly zeroed the remaining defenders and stole the tower at the 22-minute mark. HK attempted to answer with a teleport, but the lone reinforcement was overwhelmed.

At the same time, HK’s two strongest players teleported to the Central Tower and began wiping HMB from the area, effectively trading their home tower for the most important objective with 35 minutes still left in the match.

At the 22-minute mark, one HMB player boldly teleported into an area occupied by eight HK defenders. Soon after, several HMB teammates followed in to support the invasion. Despite the odds, HMB gradually turned the fight around, deleting HK players one by one until the entire area was cleared. HMB captured the tower at the 29-minute mark while trailing by only 8,000 points. However, at the same time, HK’s strongest player teleported back to their home tower, wiped out the invaders, and recaptured the objective with support arriving from spawn. From that point onward, HK stabilized around their three towers and steadily extended their lead, which eventually grew to 33,000 points by the end of the match.

💠Summary

HK defeated HMB 100,000 to 67,000, with daddyK00L earning MVP. HK started poorly, taking over ten minutes to capture Tower 1 despite giving up the Central Tower early, which meant they needed to secure both outer towers quickly. Their power allocation was inefficient, as they had multiple players far stronger than anyone on HMB and should have placed at least one anchor at each outer tower. HMB, despite having fewer players and less firepower, played a strong tactical match by using teleports to exploit weakly defended towers and force trades whenever they were about to lose an objective. With just a couple more stronger players, HMB may have had enough to steal the match from HK.
