🚢 Alright our stout chef, you know you've exposed yourself by the routine 🚢

📕Story Background
Interpol was hot on the trail of the infamous thief Harry. One day, intelligence reported that Harry was driving toward the harbor, allegedly to meet a contact aboard the ship Eastern Enigma. Inspector Gall ordered a full surveillance operation targeting the ship and the surrounding docks.
After several days of observation, Gall gathered the following intelligence:
- The ship had 1 owner, 5 sailors, and 1 chef on board.
- Every morning at 9:00 a.m., the shipowner Galen would walk the deck for fresh air before returning below.
- At 10:00 a.m., a short, stout chef exited the ship and followed the same bicycle route every day:
- A bakery - A spice wholesaler - A butcher shop - A restaurant - A newsstand
At each stop, he made short visits.
Meanwhile, the five sailors worked aboard the ship in the mornings, went into town in the afternoons, and returned drunk by evening—singing nonsense songs as they stumbled aboard, a routine that never changed.
After careful consideration, Inspector Gall arrested the ship’s chef. Under questioning, the chef eventually confessed: he had been meeting with Harry every day in one of the stores.
Where and which shop did the chef and Harry meet everyday? How did Inspector Gall figure it out?
(This story is absolutely fictional. Any inconsistencies with common sense work for the plot)
🔍Known Clues
- The chef’s daily route included five stops, but all for a small crew of just seven people.
- The pattern of visits remained consistent, and seemed too consistent for actual shopping needs.

----- Previous answer (The Vanishing Step) -------
Correct Answer: He stood on a block of thing that vanished afterwards
The man used dry ice as his stepping stool. He placed a block of dry ice inside the cardboard box, which was solid enough to support his weight. After tying the noose, he stood on the ice and hanged himself. Over time, the dry ice sublimated directly into carbon dioxide gas, leaving no water behind and no trace of the platform. The fan helped ventilate the gas, preventing build-up.
This clever setup created the illusion of a murder—deceiving even the police. But the absence of water under the box gave away the truth: it was dry ice, not murder.
