🔈Before We Start...

As many of you may have noticed, the background story of our last detective game was accidentally mixed with another one.

Please accept our sincere apologies, and the correct story was already up, so if you still fancy resolving it, now you have the right version to go.

As compensation, ALL voters who participated in the last detective game will receive 300 GT points regardless the options chosen. Thanks for your understanding, and let's dive into the new game!!!

📕Story Background

One day, a distressed young woman arrived at private detective Goro’s office. “Last Tuesday night,” she said, “my sister died from gas poisoning in her apartment. The police ruled it a suicide because the windows were shut and the door was sealed from the inside. But I know my sister—she would never take her own life. I’m convinced this was murder.”

“Any suspects?” Goro asked.

“Yes,” she replied. “Okamoto. He lived in the same building. He said he was home the whole night but heard nothing. That’s a lie!”

They went together to the old apartment building. Goro noticed a small gap between the door and its frame, a detail of interest. The sealing tape was still affixed, seemingly confirming the room had been sealed from within.

Goro asked the building manager about that night.

“I remember hearing a faint humming noise around midnight,” the manager recalled. “Like a small machine running for a while.”

Goro’s eyes narrowed. “Where’s Okamoto’s room?”

They went there, and right in the hallway, Goro saw it: a red vacuum cleaner.

He turned to the sister and said, “You were right. This was no suicide—Okamoto murdered your sister.”

Why did detective Goro say that? What clue exposed Okamoto and how they do it.

(This story is absolutely fictional. Any inconsistencies with common sense work for the plot)

🔍Known Clues

  1. The door appeared sealed from the inside.
  2. The building was old, with visible door gaps.

----- Previous answer (Paper, Lies, and Pavement) -------

Correct Answer: She provided the detail which she did not see.

Mary claimed she only saw the robber from behind, yet she specifically stated he was wearing a button-up sweatshirt. However, the buttons on a button-up sweatshirt are located on the front, which means it's impossible to identify that detail from the back. This contradiction revealed that Mary was lying.
