📞 How a normal business trip went like this... You must tell us the truth! 📞

📕Story Background
The International Electronics Expo was set to open in Tokyo, drawing top executives from leading tech companies around the globe. Chief Inspector Murai personally oversaw security, deploying armed officers at the airport and hotels, and positioning plainclothes detectives to discreetly protect VIPs.
But on the night before the grand opening, the unthinkable happened. A phone call jolted police headquarters, that Inspector Murai’s worst fear had come true. The general manager of a major American tech firm, who had checked into a five-star hotel just that afternoon, was found murdered in his hotel suite.
Inspector Murai rushed to the scene. Led by hotel security, he arrived at the executive suite—lavish and modern, with elegant furnishings, expensive paintings on the walls, and a thick Turkish camel-hair carpet underfoot. The general manager lay dead on the carpet, blood pooling around a wound to the back of his head. A phone sat on the nearby desk, its receiver off the hook, lying to the side.
Just then, a young woman approached, sobbing.
“I’m his personal assistant,” she said tearfully. “I just flew into Tokyo an hour ago. After landing, I called him right away from the airport. We were speaking on the phone when I suddenly heard him scream, then a loud thud—like someone collapsing. A moment later, I heard clear and hurried footsteps—it sounded like the killer running away! I immediately called the police and took a taxi straight here. I only just arrived.”
Inspector Murai said nothing at first. He paced the room quietly, thinking. Then, abruptly, he turned to her and said coldly:
"You’re lying."
Why did Inspector Murai say the woman was lying?
(This story is absolutely fictional. Any inconsistencies with common sense work for the plot)

----- Previous answer (Golden Tennis Club) -------
Witness could not clearly see the license plate from 100 meters away in total darkness.
The critical error the witness made was claiming he clearly read and recorded the truck’s license plate number from at least 100 meters away—in total darkness, as all the streetlights on Crown Street had been deliberately extinguished by the burglars. Without adequate lighting, accurately reading the truck’s license plate from such a considerable distance would be impossible. Thus, Inspector Hawk quickly realized the witness must have fabricated his story or was involved in the crime himself.
