❄ My condolences, sorry for your loss, but you should tell us the truth. ❄

📕Story Background
A winter night, Detective Conrad Sleuth awoke suddenly to the sharp ringing of his telephone. After four persistent rings, he realized it wasn't a dream. Glancing at the clock, he saw it was 3:30 a.m.
“Hello?” he answered sleepily.
“Is this Mr. Sleuth?” asked a woman's anxious voice.
“Yes, speaking.”
“My name is Alice Burton. Please hurry—someone has murdered my husband!” Sleuth quickly noted down her address and hung up the phone.
It was freezing outside, the wind howling bitterly. Detective Sleuth bundled up warmly, even wrapping two scarves around his neck. Due to the cold, it took him longer than usual to leave home.
40 minutes later, he arrived at Mrs. Burton’s home, where she was anxiously waiting by the front door. She quickly invited him inside. Sleuth gratefully removed his coat, scarves, hat, and gloves, relieved by the warmth.
Mrs. Burton, still wearing pajamas and slippers with her hair unkempt, said, “My husband is upstairs.”
“What exactly happened?” Sleuth asked calmly.
“My husband and I went to sleep at 11:45 p.m. But somehow, I woke up suddenly at 3:25 a.m. When I didn’t hear him breathing, I checked and realized he was dead—he had been murdered!”
“And what did you do afterward?” asked Sleuth.
“I immediately came downstairs and called you. That’s when I noticed this window wide open,” Mrs. Burton pointed nervously at the open window. Freezing air was rushing into the room, and Sleuth stepped forward to shut it firmly.
“You’re lying, Mrs. Burton,” Sleuth declared. “We'd better call the police. But perhaps before they arrive, you’d like to tell me the truth?”
How did Detective Sleuth immediately know Mrs. Burton was lying?
(This story is absolutely fictional. Any inconsistencies with common sense work for the plot)

----- Previous answer (A Coincidental Slip) -------
Mr. Briar is the thief.
- The stolen object was a valuable coin from the display cabinet.
- Mr. Briar claimed he used the lobby’s pay phone to call his wife after the theft occurred. Which by the time of this story, the phone must be coin-operated.
Thus, Briar inadvertently betrayed himself with his slip-up about the coin phone.
