💡What you see is not always what you get—especially in the glare of lights.🎶

📕Story Background

At the community square, the Neighborhood Festival’s stage performance is in full swing. At 14:30, the show begins—bright stage lights, cheering crowds, and everyone’s attention fixed on the stage, leaving the service desk with just one attendant.

The grand prize, the "Neighborhood Limited Edition Commemorative Coin Set," was securely stored in a glass display case at the service desk.

The case features:

A transparent tempered glass door with an electronic passcode lock (only two people know the code: Emma and Liam.

Warm yellow LED accent lights wrapped around the case, creating a uniform glare that makes it impossible to tell from the side whether the door is fully closed or slightly ajar. Only by standing directly in front or turning off the lights can the door’s status be confirmed.

The passcode lock allows the door to be opened just 5 cm, enough to slip out the small coin set without fully opening it.

At 14:35, the performance ends, and the crowd rushes to the service desk—only to find the display case empty! The door is slightly loose, but the warm yellow lights remain on. There are no obvious signs of tampering, and no direct witnesses.

Staff quickly identify four suspects who had the opportunity to approach the service desk between 14:30–14:35.

Here are their testimonies.

Emma (Community Staff):Emma clutches a set of service desk keys, her fingertips lightly smudged with glass cleaner, and a small commemorative sticker (identical to the coin set’s packaging) stuck to her sleeve. Her pocket holds a folded map of the service desk’s blind spots (marked with security camera dead zones).

"When the show started at 14:30, I went to get tissues from the west supply shed. Round trip took 3 minutes, I was back by 14:33. The lights were on, the case looked closed from the side— I didn’t check until the crowd came. The cleaner is from wiping the display, the sticker and map are for event work, I’m innocent!"

Liam (Event Organizer):Liam is flipping through performance schedules, holding a small pair of scissors, with an unused commemorative voucher peeking from his pocket. His sleeve cuff has tiny glass fragments (matching the display case material).

"I coordinated backstage until 14:32, when I went to adjust speakers near the desk. The glare hid the case, it looked closed from what I saw. I left right away— the voucher is a raffle backup, and the glass is from a decoration, I had no chance to steal anything!"

Zoe (Handmade Market Vendor):Zoe carries a stack of handmade bracelets. Her booth is diagonally across from the service desk, her hands stained with silver paint (similar to the coins’ color). One bracelet features a coin-like charm, and under her table lies a small piece of gold foil (identical to the coin set’s packaging).

"I never left my booth, the glare made the case impossible to see clearly. The paint is for my crafts, the charm is a replica, and the foil is leftover packaging. I don’t even know the passcode!"

Noah (Performer & Resident):Noah’s face still has stage glitter, and his pocket holds a community badge (similar to the stolen set’s). His fingers have copper-colored dust (matching the coins’ material), and tiny glitter specks were found inside the display case door.

"I sang 14:30-14:34, only stopped at the water cooler for 10 seconds after. The badge is from last year’s event, the dust is from a stage prop, and the glitter is an accident. I have a past record, but I didn’t do this!"

🔍Known Clues

1.The warm LED lights make it impossible to see the door’s status from the side. Only a 5 cm gap is needed to steal the coins.

2.Staff recreated Emma’s claimed route, and it took about 5 minute.

3.From 14:30–14:35, everyone was watching the stage.

4.Glass cleaner is usually used with a cloth.

Correct Answer: Direction of Sunflower

The Deduction Logic: This puzzle hinges on the biological phenomenon of Heliotropism.

1.The Common Myth: It is a widely known "fact" that sunflowers track the sun across the sky from east to west. Silas relies on this common knowledge to make his lie sound authentic.

2.The Biological Reality: Heliotropism (sun-tracking) only occurs in young, immature sunflowers. The plant uses motor cells in its flexible stem to follow the light.

3.The Maturation: Once a sunflower matures, reaches full bloom, and its stem stiffens, it completely stops tracking the sun. The adult flower permanently locks into an Eastern-facing direction. This allows the flower to warm up quickly in the morning sun, which attracts more pollinators like bees.

4.The Flaw: You observed that the sunflowers in the Apex Glasshouse are "giant, mature," and "in full, glorious bloom" with "thick, rigid stalks."

5.The Conclusion: At 5:00 PM, those mature flowers would absolutely not be facing the western glass. They were permanently locked facing East. If Silas was standing between the flowers and the western wall, he would have been staring at the fronts of their yellow faces, not hiding behind the "backs of their thick, green heads." He fabricated the entire memory of hiding in their shade to explain why he didn't stop a "thief" that didn't exist. He stole the seed himself and propped the eastern doors open to frame an intruder.
