🏠 The world behaves in very predictable ways, isn't it? 🏠

📕Story Background
The wind howls outside the Blackwood Ski Lodge, rattling the heavy timber frames. Inside, the Great Hall is a sanctuary of warmth, with a massive stone fireplace crackling and a pot of spiced cider steaming on the hearth. The air is thick with the scent of pine and the humid warmth of a dozen guests huddled together to escape the -15°F (-26°C) blizzard outside.
Suddenly, a cry rings out. The "Frost Diamond," a raw, un-cut gemstone displayed on the mantle, has vanished. During a brief flicker of the lights, someone snatched it.
You stand by the fire, observing the guests as they react to the news.
Mindy, a city girl wrapped in three layers of wool blankets, shivers on the sofa. "I haven't moved from this spot in an hour," she chatters, her teeth literally clicking. "I’m so cold I can’t even feel my toes. I was watching the Professor over there the whole time the lights flickered."
Professor Plum looks up from his book, perched in a leather wingback chair. "I’m afraid I’m a poor witness," he says, polishing his magnifying glass with a silk cloth. "I was engrossed in a particularly dense chapter on Himalayan geology. When the lights went out, I simply waited for them to return. I did hear the front door creak, though."
Chet, a rugged outdoorsman with thick-rimmed glasses, pushes open the heavy front door. A gust of snow follows him in. He stomps his boots on the mat and sighs. "I didn't see anything," he says, pulling off his heavy gloves. "I’ve been out on the porch for the last twenty minutes, trying to clear the snow off the satellite dish so we can get a signal. I was staring out into the whiteout the whole time. It's brutal out there." He adjusts his clear glasses, and walks toward the fire to warm his hands.
The Lodge Manager is pacing by the window. "I was in the kitchen checking the generator. We’re at capacity, and this storm is putting a massive strain on the humidity controls. Look at the windows—they’re so fogged up from the heat inside that you can’t even see the trees anymore."

----- Previous answer (The 7th Inning Steal) -------
Correct Answer: Pete
The Deduction Logic: The solution requires you to do a little bit of mental math regarding the timeline.
- The Timeframe: The 7th Inning Stretch lasts for the duration of a short song (about 2 minutes, or 120 seconds).
- The Flaw: Pete claims he threw exactly 50 practice pitches during this time.
- The Reality: If Pete threw 50 pitches in 120 seconds, he would have to throw a pitch every 2.4 seconds.
- Conclusion: Even the fastest pitcher in the world cannot do a full wind-up, throw a fastball, wait for the catcher to catch it, wait for the catcher to throw it back, catch the ball, and reset... all in 2.4 seconds, fifty times in a row! Pete made up an exaggerated story to make it sound like he was incredibly busy, but the math proves he had plenty of time to slip into the locker room and steal the mascot head.
