🎹👂 Think I'm blind? In the pitch dark I can see through it all.👂🎹

📕Story Background

Detective Moen had a good friend who was a renowned pianist, famous for winning many prestigious awards. Even more remarkably, he was blind, and perhaps due to this, his hearing was exceptionally sensitive. People affectionately called him "Golden Ear."

One evening, a wealthy businessman held a banquet, inviting both Detective Moen and the pianist. During the party, the host asked the pianist to perform. The pianist began playing a lively waltz, and guests joyfully danced along, until suddenly, the music stopped. “Your piano has an out-of-tune key,” the pianist declared, making the host blush in embarrassment. To avoid further awkwardness, the host switched on the record player, and the dancing resumed.

Suddenly, all the lights in the room went out, plunging the party into total darkness. A loud "thud" echoed from upstairs, and the host cried out, "There’s a thief in the study!" Guests panicked, but Detective Moen quickly shouted, "Quiet, please!" Silence filled the room, broken only by the steady "tick-tock" of a clock.

Unaffected by darkness, the blind pianist gently took Detective Moen’s arm, and they quietly made their way upstairs to the study door. Inside, it was pitch black. Where was the thief hiding? The pianist stood still, carefully listening. Moments later, he leaned close to Detective Moen, whispering, "Touch my index finger; it points precisely toward the intruder."

Detective Moen nodded, then swiftly lunged in the indicated direction. A startled cry followed, and someone fell to the ground. The host lit a candle, revealing a man collapsed in front of a large grandfather clock, groaning in pain and clutching his stomach. Scattered money from a silver case lay all around him. It seems that the thief remained motionless and silent in the same spot until he was discovered.

In truth, the pianist had relied solely on his extraordinary hearing, his "Golden Ear" to identify the thief’s location.

What clue allowed the blind pianist to "hear" exactly where the thief was hiding?

(This story is absolutely fictional. Any inconsistencies with common sense work for the plot)

🔍Known Clues

  1. As a Golden Ear, even the slightest change captured by hearing will be amplified.
  2. Sound could be altered in different surrounding environments.

----- Previous answer (A Breeze in the Darkness) -------

The girl was confined in the cottage with the north-facing window, which faces toward the hills.

This conclusion is confirmed by her description: "At night, a slight breeze blew into the room." Near the coastline, land cools down more quickly than the sea during the nighttime. Cooler air from the hills flows towards the warmer ocean, creating a gentle breeze coming through the north-facing attic window. Conversely, during daytime, the land heats faster, causing wind to blow from the ocean towards land. During periods when temperatures between land and sea are equal, there's virtually no wind along the coastline.

Although the west-facing cottage might also experience a breeze at night, the girl specifically mentioned the breeze came from directly in front of her, which matches only the north-facing cottage.
