🎒 Oh really? You've got something to boast? Don't cry when you find it missing 🎒

📕Story Background

The new semester had just begun, and the students were eager to reconnect after the break. They gathered outside the classroom, chatting animatedly. The topic of conversation quickly turned to their vacation purchases.

I bought the latest cell phone,” boasted Jones. “There are only 30 of them in the entire country!”

“That’s nothing,” John retorted smugly. “My fancy multi-function watch is the last one of its kind!

Mary joined in, flashing her necklace. “You both are bragging about gadgets that’ll become outdated soon. But my 999 pure gold necklace? It’s timeless and the most valuable talisman anyone could have!”

Nearby, Richard, a classmate preparing to transfer to another school, listened enviously. At the same time, Tom, an elderly man on crutches who liked to stroll around the school, passed by with his young granddaughter, Julie. They couldn’t help but overhear the conversation.

The bell rang, cutting the boasting short, and the students hurried into the classroom. Once seated, the teacher, Catherine, took attendance and confirmed everyone was present. With roll call done, the chatter resumed, with Jones, John, and Mary proudly flaunting their prized possessions.

(Names of five suspects were underlined)

When it was time for gym class, Catherine led the students to the playground. Many left their book bags in the classroom, some containing valuables. Midway to the playground, Catherine suddenly realized she’d forgotten her keys in the classroom. She rushed back to retrieve them.

Moments later, Catherine returned in a panic. “I just saw someone swiftly jumped over the fence near the classroom!” she exclaimed. “I tried to chase them, but they got away very fast. The classroom looked disturbed, so we need to go back and check. Hurry!!!”

The students hurried back to find a chaotic scene: book bags from the first to the sixth rows were scattered on the floor. Upon checking, they discovered that most valuables from those rows were untouched, except for two items. Jones’ high-end cell phone and John’s rare multi-function watch were missing.

Mary sighed in relief. “Good thing I sit in the first seat of the seventh row! The thief must not have had time to reach my seat, or my gold necklace could’ve been next!”

Who do you think the thief is? Analyze the details and clues to uncover the culprit behind this classroom caper!

(This story is absolutely fictional. Any inconsistencies with common sense work for the plot)

----- Previous answer (Student Apartment: A Night of Deception) -------

The murderer is Bill.

Glenn heard a noise at the back door, proving that Sonny did return home before the murder and tripped over the cord. Thus, the yanked cord would again prove that Sonny was telling the truth. However, since Sonny fell and yanked the cord, the place where Bill working on his car, should have been suddenly plunged into darkness, but Bill didn't mention to Henry that his lights suddenly went out, and that's because at that moment he was creeping up the stairs and killing Harry, and the lights went out without him even realizing it.

The robbery happened during the gym class. So Mary and Richard were at the playground at this moment and only came back after the theft.

Catherine could have been the thief, but I guess that she was in the classroom while the students were outside talking about their valuable goods.

So I bet that Julie is the culprit. She only had time to search the first six rows because Catherine came back. She ran away quickly and swiftly jumped over the fence near the classroom, so it can't be her old grandfather.

For my 30th birthday, I went to Cambodia, which is the country where my parents were born and grew up. It's a nice memory, and Angkor Vat is outstanding.

My guess is that the thief is Julie.

Catherine would have recognized either Richard or Mary but didn’t.

Catherine herself would have finished the robbery and have taken the necklace but it was still there.

The fact that only the 6 first rows were visited indicates the thief didn’t know sitting positions in class.

Tom the elder man is on crutches so cannot jumping over fence and run fast.

Left only Julie.

Et mon papa me manque ...

Based on the story's details, **Richard** is the most likely culprit. Here's the analysis:

**Key Evidence**:

- Richard was described as listening "enviously" to the students' boasting about their expensive items

- He was preparing to transfer to another school, suggesting potential motivation for stealing

- The theft targeted precisely the items Jones and John were bragging about

- Richard was conveniently present during the initial conversation about valuable possessions

- The thief knew exactly which items to target, indicating prior knowledge from the earlier conversation

**Strategic Details**:

- The thief jumped the fence quickly and knew exactly which items to steal

- Only Jones' cell phone and John's watch were taken

- Mary's necklace was untouched, further suggesting the thief specifically targeted the items discussed earlier

**Psychological Motivation**:

Richard's "envious" listening suggests he felt resentment towards his classmates' expensive possessions. His upcoming transfer might have reduced his risk of immediate suspicion, making him an opportunistic thief.

The story's clues point strongly to Richard as the most probable culprit behind this classroom theft.
