Champion City Siege has been one of my favorite events since I was way too small to be playing this event. Lol. In many ways this event highlights an event done right. Where the whales and the plebs can come together for a common goal. The whales' lines carry us to those coveted battle diamonds we all drool over. The plebs sacrifice our troops for the glory of the whales. This is as balanced as we can hope for lol. Merit and battle/bravery tokens are another bonus but it is those blood diamonds most of us crave…

I used to pour over kingdoms to find allies. Now we either get invitations or wait for the event and choose right before whichever team will get us to our goal with the least amount of  friction. Vegeta had gotten a raven from someone in Nbe inviting us to join them on the map. We discussed the possibility. Nbe would want to hold the castle if they could. So this could be costly depending who else was on the map. They also have some incredibly strong whales in their ranks, so we may be able to get the diamonds fairly easily. Maybe even just one or two fights. We agreed that it seemed like an advantageous arrangement so we opted to join them. We were going to be fighting for Longreach castle

I glanced around the map as we waited for the fight. I could see a strong account here or there, but honestly the biggest concern I had at this point was will anyone be able to rally us. The shell alliance we had joined, CCX, had the hands down largest presence on the map. I tried not to worry about it since these things tend to work themselves out. Alliances split, new alliances form and players tend to try and help each other most of the time. I hadnt noticed the whales who had appeared and aligned with a small group of Bta across the map. The dreaded Black bear account, Matejin, and Crimson Dawn, hereby dubbed the Whaley three.

There was a small contingent of strong players from HOH

IXA was the other group on the map that could potentially cause us problems…

We were easily the largest. I was hopeful for a cheap easy match since Glorious Battle had been more expensive than I had realized. AND it wasn't even over, I still needed troops for it. Additionally, with Siege of Winterfall coming I also needed enough T5 inf to not get kicked from the alliance lol. Thank goodness I made a lot of pixel people for all this death… I was less sure with easy points now that all the warriors were present on the battlefield.

The Darkness was the first to take Longreach. I rushed to reinforce. Getting in the castle was not going to be the issue on this map. Staying in the castle would as I learned when the Whaley three was my first hit after arriving for the castle…. No one lived!

This scene repeated itself again and again. I had lots of dead troops, but no kills. I would need to be in for fights that resulted in actual battle reports if I hoped to get my battle diamonds. When it was time to switch castle holders, Barbarossa took it next.

I sent my troops, got in the castle and braced for the whaley three. So far my luck had not been great. I had gathered 5 or 6 battle reports where no one lived and nothing that was counting towards the kills I needed for the diamonds. Joining Barbarossa had seemed to change my luck as I got into not one…

But 2 real fights…

Those two fights secured my diamonds, everything else would be a bonus. I would not yet abandon my allies, there was still most of the fight ahead. Still it was nice to accomplish it early on. Frozor took the castle next… I did send my troops to reinforce, but only fought the whaley three anytime I went into the fights.

Namia got a turn so I joined her too… Yet again, all I hit was the Whaley three. Those two real battle reports I got were saving me from panic.

And then it was back to Barbarossa. The whaley three never let up, attacking again and again cause they were winning all of their fights no matter who was in Longreach. Our large presence on the map was likely the only thing carrying Nbe’s plans of victory.

I left shortly after despite a few minutes left. Nbe put one of their random accounts in to close the match and claim the title…

It was such an odd CCS. None of the wasting speeds trying to get in the castle, it was all about timing my march to try and avoid any of the whaley three. Yall most of the time I failed lol. Thank goodness the few winning battle reports I got was all I really needed. It is so interesting how each iteration of CCS presents new challenges. Sometimes the challenge is getting in the castle. Sometimes it is in the form of unbeatable whales.
