Spring had arrived in full force in Westeros and MAJOr had risen early and was enjoying fishing in the nearby brook. Noon had almost arrived, and he had been very happy to have freed himself from the obligations of a regular Arena of Team team. However, since he had practically emptied the river from fishes, and since he knew the registration for the fifth match of the fifth season of arena of honor was about to begin, and had nothing better to do, he decided to enlist on his own and see where luck would take him.

He entered the battlefield and found himself in a team formed by people with no affiliations, which would definitely put them in a disadvantage when fighting tine Stark and the Lannister team, who seemed to be more cohesive. MAJOr though was happy just to spend an hour fighting without following rules and instructions and just hoped he would manage to get some decent rewards out of it.

If the rest of the team knew the mechanics of Arena of Honor remained to be seen.

I will take the Clan Castle, called cel micut, taking on the role of leader.

MAJOr was surprised upon hearing he was not the one who would have to guard the Clan Castle. A carefree grin appeared on his face. If this is what freedom felt like, he was very much enjoying it.

He heard the heralds signalling that the Arena contest had begun, and paused to see what he would do.

Everyone take a stronghold and reinforce as fast as you can, instructed cel micut. Since our team is pretty mixed, we will try to make our points with trading.

Wonderful, said MAJOr, he definitely knew how a trading team worked. As soon as their strongholds were done, MAJOr headed off to capture a Maiden Altar.

Nicely done, if the rest of the team takes two more we will be set, he assessed and settled comfortably to hold the Maiden. To his surprise he saw someone marching towards him, before his occupation time was settled, and braced to defend. A loud crash followed and MAJOr found himself homeless.

Pffff, if I had been reinforced, I would not have lost this Maiden, he thought annoyed and for the first time he did concede to himself that playing in a regular team had some advantages.

He did not have time to reminisce more as he saw that the enemies were trying to take their Altar of Stranger and as he vaguely recollected that Bearface had said Strangers were useful to trading teams, he set off immediately towards it.

I totally got this, he thought to himself proudly and looked eagerly around to ascertain in which other manner he could prove useful to his team. Dragonpits were open, and without thinking twice, or bothering to scout, he charged.

Probably not one of my best ideas to attack blindly, he smiled ruefully as he was healing his hospital. But his fighting spirit was fully awakened now, and when he saw their enemies attack their Altar of the Warrior, and even though they did not technically need it, he once more summoned his poor army and attacked.

MAJOr looked slyly around to see if anyone noticed how he liberated the altar but he noticed the rest of his team were in quiet council.

It is too close as it is, cel micut said, we need to try something. Let’s make a play for Glory City.

Ok will give it a shot, Arkanee said and called a rally which was half filled.

Arkanee managed to win but it was not enough to kick the holder, which was kicked by the next wave of rallies. The Targaryens though were undeterred.

Potato, potato, said smiling Dingleberry and called for a rally, which was once again marginally filled.

It proved to be enough though, and cel micut called for everyone to reinforce Glory City. A few scant reinforcements obeyed his command, and MAJOr sighed, remembering how easily they filled the Glory City with the Bearface team. EatMyEggEgg annoyed he had been ousted by the city, he was rallying back.

Seasoned tacticians would cry to see the troop composition on either side, but EatMyEggEgg managed his goal and regained the Glory City for the Stark team. If this was not bad enough,Lannisters managed to get a Clan House, and now the Targaryens were at a disadvantage.

The Lannister House who wanted to secure second unleashed an attack at all fronts over the Targaryens.

Quick, shouted MAJOr, unthinkingly, starting to command. We need to defend, and take back some of their buildings if we want to beat them. I will try to take back our Maiden, before they manage to turn it.

MAJOr attacked without scouting and prayed that his army would be enough to save the Maiden as they were almost out of time.

Targaryens cheered, but MAJOr and cel micut looked around intensely. Only one thing could save them from the third place and they both saw it simultaneously.

Mineshafts, instructed cel micut, take as many as you can.

MAJOR once more started attacking blindly and ran into a wall.

He looked around and saw that thankfully his comrades were doing better than him. The points started trickling upwards, and somehow the Targaryens in the last minutes passed ahead of the Lannisters.

Once the final trumpet sounded they cheered wildly, and MAJOr shook hands with cel micut and leaned back to rest his weary bones. What an experience it was!! It had both taught him the value of the team he had left but at the same time it had been absolutely fun, making him enjoy the arena and come alive, instead of dozing off in the Clan Castle, as he used to do.

Will you solo register next time MAJOr? enquired cel micut, later at the tavern where they were sharing a flagon of wine.

Not the faintest idea, he replied. Here is to always having a good arena game, toasted MAJOr and they both drank heartily.
