“The Champion City was never our prize – the battlefield was.”

I. Preparation for War

Sunday. Once again it was time for Champion City Siege – Season 70.

For many players CCS is simply another event in the monthly rotation.

For Biff, however, it is one of the highlights of the month – alongside KvK.

Both events occur once every month, separated by two weeks. For Biff those two weeks are not downtime - they are preparation.

During KvK he must carefully manage his troop composition. Too many non-bowmen troops would disrupt his castle’s defensive setup, so anything unnecessary must be hidden - in shelter, mentor rally, or fake rally.

When CCS arrives, the situation changes. Now Biff can rebuild those troops again.

Spearmen and Cavalry.

Not because he intends to lead rallies himself – but because those troops will march under the banners of Biet and Asenherz.

Many players approach this differently. Two hours before the event begins, they simply train massive numbers of troops.

That works.

But Biff prefers a slower and more deliberate method.

Over the two weeks following KvK he gradually rebuilds his forces while synchronizing troop training with Elite Challenges, whenever soldier training appears as a task.

Each challenge returns rewards:

Speedups, motivation, diamonds, resources…

A small but satisfying cashback effect.

Not because Biff lacks resources – he has plenty. But because efficiency itself is part of the enjoyment. Some might call it hoarding. Biff simply calls it organized.

“It's better to have than to need” is one of his typical sayings.

II. Gathering on the Battlefield

Matchmaking was kind this time. The battle would begin at 10:00 GMT.

It could easily have been 04:00 GMT, which would not have stopped us from playing – but 10:00 GMT certainly felt more civilized.

Our squad gathered on Discord and on the battlefield.

Biff Malibu, Biet, Asenherz, TheLu, Negative Man.

But this CCS brought an additional advantage. Two other servers with members of German Jokers had landed in the same timeslot:

K78 and K209. From K78 came XamXamWoon, Limar, and Romilia, all experienced players who understood exactly how valuable CCS could be for account development. From K209 came ESCHL, another veteran who rarely had the chance to participate in CCS on his own server.

Joining our rallies meant reliable coordination and far better results than the chaotic open alliances many players join for this event. Several support accounts were placed nearby as well, ready to provide additional troops if necessary.

The battlefield map slowly filled with banners. The [NoS] alliance had roughly a dozen players on the map, but most participants had joined the [AnU] alliance, which was primarily focused on capturing the center.

More players appeared, placed their castles in the [AnU] cluster, joined the [AnU] alliance, and Champion City stood quietly at the center of the battlefield.

For a brief moment everything was still.

The mood was optimistic. Excited. Confident. And perhaps just a little greedy.

Our silent hope was simple:

Let the defender be a cavalry player.

Because if that were to happen, Biet would have his hands full, and we’d all certainly have a blast.

III. The Battle Begins

Alliance [AnU] quickly captured the Champion City and filled it with reinforcements.

Exactly as expected.

And at the exact moment the battle began, Biff’s screen froze.

The game crashed.

For a few frustrating seconds he stared at the loading screen while the first rallies were already forming. Certainly, Biet wasted no time.

The first attacks had already been launched.

After several attempts Biff finally managed to restart the game and returned to the battlefield six minutes after the event had begun.

Just in time.

Biet’s voice came through Discord.

“The Rally is up.”

Biff’s troops were sent immediately – spears to Biet, Cavalry to Asenherz. Now the battle truly began.

Asenherz’s cavalry reached Champion City first, smashing into the defensive line.

And the battle report showed Victory.

The wounded were healed quickly, because shortly afterward Biet’s spear rally arrived.

Next battle report showed Victory again.

While Biff’s troops were still marching back Biet again said.

“The Rally is up.”

IV. The Rhythm of War

The first defender was [AnU]Ledogi.

An infantry player – a good opponent for Asenherz and his cavalry to take advantage of the counterattack, but not exactly the kind of opponent against which Biet's spear formation would be most effective. Yet the battle reports quickly confirmed it.

Clean victories for both.

Against Asenherz, Ledogi had the advantage in terms of commanders' weapons and advisors, but Asenherz held the upper hand in terms of troop and synergy counter. The larger number of troops ultimately provided the winning edge and secured the victory.

Biet entered the engagement with the theoretical disadvantage of facing a counterattack. Nevertheless, in the quality and development of commander weapons, as well as in the advisers at his side, he was in no way inferior to his opponent. Moreover, the number of troops under his command was significantly greater than in the prior rally of Asenherz, with the result that Ledogi ultimately suffered a decisive defeat.

Strong ratios. Minimal losses. And soon a steady rhythm developed.

Biet had slipped into the role of rally commander effortlessly.

Every few moments the same calm instruction appeared in Discord.

“The Rally is up.”

No hesitation.

No delay.

Just another march toward the city.

Troops marched. Reports returned.

Victory followed victory.

Again. And again.

V. Breaking the Defenders

Roughly twenty minutes into the battle the rankings told an interesting story.

Occupation time? Zero seconds.

Elimination rankings? Positions one through six.

All ours.

Inside Champion City a new defender appeared as another [AnU] player replaced the first.

Reinforcements poured in again. Biet responded the same way he always did.

“The Rally is up.”

The spears marched.

The assault struck the defenders. Victory.

Like Biet, [AnU]Alakazam65 relied on a spear formation. Both sides employed the same commander setup; however, Biet held a clear advantage in both the advisers and the commander’s weapons. The additional difference of two million more troops ultimately resulted in a very decisive victory for our forces.

Losses stayed low. The ratios remained excellent. And so, the rallies continued.

Again. And again.

At one point, Asenherz decided to switch to an infantry formation in order to test his second line against Alakazam’s spear formation.

While the quality of commander`s weapons and advisers was nearly equal on both sides, Asenherz retained the upper hand thanks to the troop counter and the higher number of high-tier troops, ultimately emerging from this test with a convincing victory.

VI. The Hunt

Thirty-five minutes into the battle another defender stepped forward. For a moment the Discord channel went quiet.

Would they send reinforcements?

They did.

And the third defender was... Cavalry player.

Someone laughed.

“Do they think we’ve run out of spears?”

We hadn’t. Biet launched the next rally immediately.

“The Rally is up.”

Spears marched forward and tore through the defenders once more.

[AnU]Lord Pratap deployed a powerful female synergy supported by highly developed advisers and commander’s weapons. Nevertheless, he was unable to withstand the devastating defeat.

Both the troop counter and Biet’s decision to include Peter Baelish in the formation proved decisive, as Peter Baelish turns the abilities of female synergy against itself. As a result, the engagement once again ended in a clear success for our forces.

It was one of those rare CCS battles where everything simply worked. Report after report returned with victory banners.

Laughter spread through the Discord channel.

Each new battle report looked great, and someone joked that the defenders probably regretted sitting in the city by now.

At this point it was no longer about tokens. Or rankings. It was simply the thrill of watching one successful report after another.

VII. The Last Rallies

Ten minutes remained. Our dominance in the elimination rankings continued.

Positions 1–5 and 8–10 were ours. Biff himself sat at rank 4.

Meanwhile his supply of T3 troops was beginning to run low. To keep protecting the T4 units he began training additional T3 soldiers on the fly and sending them straight into the rallies.

Biet had already stopped waiting for perfectly full rallies. Seven million troops were enough. Speed mattered now. More attacks. More kills. Before the defenders could disappear.

Five minutes remained.

Another cavalry rally from Asenherz. Another spear rally from Biet. But eventually the strain of constant fighting caught up with us. The cavalry rally had to be cancelled. There simply were not enough troops left to fill it.

Biet launched one final spear rally anyway.

The march began.

For a brief moment it looked as if the rally would arrive too late.

Champion City had already been abandoned. So, would we get a last hit or just run into a protection shield? Then the battle report appeared.

Victory.

[NoS]Apaczu clearly did not plan to defend against a full rally and paid a heavy price.

Aftermath

Occupation time? Almost none.

But eliminations? Collected like teenagers chasing Pokémon.

Biff alone achieved more than 41 million eliminations and increased his merits from 288M to nearly 314M in a single CCS.

Others fought for the city. We hunted the armies.

And so ended CCS Season 70. Not as a siege. But as a hunt.

Voices from the Battlefield

Biff

“Preparation wins battles long before the first rally is launched.”

Biet

“Rally up. If the reports stay green, we keep going.”

Asenherz

“If the formation works, we use it again. If not, we learn from it.”

Legend

In the records of Season 70 it is written:

While others fought for the Champion City,

Squad 182 hunted the armies beneath its walls.
