🌷 Wait til it blooms, then everything'll become clear 🌷

📕Story Background

One evening, Luban attended a banquet hosted by a Japanese businessman. Amid the glamour of the evening, he secretly stole a rare black pearl necklace. After slipping out unnoticed, he returned to his hidden residence, tore off his disguise—wig and fake beard—and changed into a silk robe. Just as he sank into his study’s sofa with a sigh of relief, the doorbell rang.

At the door stood a small, dapper man in a slightly wrinkled tuxedo. Luban recognized him: the man had made a brief appearance at the banquet earlier.

“Good evening, Mr. Luban. My name is Kindaichi Kosuke,” the visitor introduced himself.

Kindaichi Kosuke—the famed Japanese detective. Luban instantly grew wary but kept a calm façade, inviting the uninvited guest into his study. The room was lit warmly, and a vase of red tulips stood on the table. At that moment, all the tulips’ petals were tightly closed.

“Mr. Luban, may I ask what you were doing this evening?” Kindaichi began.

“I was home the whole time,” Luban replied smoothly. “Before you arrived, I was quietly reading in here. That book on the table—yes, that one.”

Kindaichi casually walked over and flipped the book open. He paused. The tulips in the vase, which moments ago had closed petals, had now mysteriously opened.

He plucked one tulip, examined it, and returned it to the vase.

With a calm but firm voice, he said,

“Mr. Luban, your alibi is a lie. Please return the black pearl necklace.”

----- Previous answer (Beneath the Heavy Snow) -------

Correct Answer: He claimed to witness inside car.

It was snowing heavily at the time, and the witness’s car had been parked outside for two and a half hours. Since he hadn’t scraped the snow off the windows before getting in, there’s no way he could have seen the person fall. His story simply doesn’t add up.
