❄ Same winter night, same witness lie ❄

📕Story Background

Late at night, Detective Jack returned home when the phone suddenly rang. He picked it up—

"Detective, please come to the station immediately," said a fellow officer on the line.

Thirty minutes later, Jack arrived at the police station and went straight into the captain's office.

The captain looked somber.

"At 11 PM, an incident occurred on Little Gate Street—possibly a murder. A man fell from a rooftop. There was one eyewitness who insists the victim jumped and no one else was around."

Detective Jack nodded. "Let’s head to the scene and speak to the witness."

Soon they arrived. The witness was already there and retold his version of events:

"It was snowing heavily, so I stayed in a nearby restaurant for over two and a half hours. When I left, it was exactly 11 PM. There wasn’t a soul on the street. I ran to my car and just then—I, I saw someone on the rooftop. He hesitated for a second… then jumped."

Detective Jack stared at the man and said coldly,

"You’re either an accomplice… or someone paid you well to lie."

The man turned pale.

(This story is absolutely fictional. Any inconsistencies with common sense work for the plot)

🔍Known Clues

  1. It was snowing continuously late at night.
  2. The witness described the jump in detail inside his car.

----- Previous answer (Feline Witness) -------

Correct Answer: The warm hood attracted the cat.

The suspect said the car hadn't been used that day. However, during snowy weather, cats seek warm surfaces to rest. The paw prints and body marks on the warm hood proved the engine had been running recently—contradicting his statement. Plus, paw prints require a warm surface to be present in snowy conditions. These all gave him away.
