📦 There must be a reason behind his fake suicide, RIP old man 📦

📕Story Background

An elderly man with an amputated left leg was found hanged in his apartment, his body suspended about 80 cm above the floor. The discovery was made more than a day after his death. Oddly, there were no signs of any object he could have used to stand on. Given his disability, it seemed impossible that he could have leapt high enough to hang himself unaided. Police concluded it was homicide.

The man had taken out a large life insurance policy just over two months prior. However, the room was locked from the inside, forming a perfect sealed-room mystery. Suspecting a staged crime, the insurance company hired famed detective Ram to investigate.

At the scene, Ram found an empty cardboard box under the body. But the flimsy box clearly couldn’t support the weight of a person. Unless…

That’s when inspiration struck him. The man had, in fact, committed suicide—but made it look like murder.

Why did detective Ram conclude that? How did the elderly man manage to fake the scene?

(This story is absolutely fictional. Any inconsistencies with common sense work for the plot)

🔍Known Clues

  1. The door was locked from inside, no signs of break-in.
  2. No stable object was found that could serve as a stepping tool.
  3. The box was dry and the exhaust fan was left running.

Correct Answer: Nick suffocated due to the narrow long tube

If a person tries to breathe underwater using a 6-foot-long rubber tube with a diameter of just 1 inch, they will quickly suffocate. Such a long and narrow tube cannot effectively deliver oxygen from the outside. Instead, the air inside the tube would soon be filled with the person's own exhaled carbon dioxide. Without fresh oxygen, breathing becomes impossible.

This is basic medical knowledge—something Dr. Thomas would have certainly understood. Therefore, it's clear that Nick was murdered by Thomas using this deceptively clever method.
