💠Introduction

What’s up, folks? Welcome back to my Illusion Battlefield(IB) series where I take a closer look at different matches. IB is different from the IB League tournament in that you will use your normal teams, skill sets, talents, and decoration skins so strength is extremely relevant. The mode is also much slower-paced. Relocations and marching speed are slower. The event is one of the most entertaining events in Infinity Kingdom that players enjoy spectating, almost like a sporting event. In this article, I’m going to take a closer look at the rematch between Server 73’s The Pride(PRD) and Server 38’s Valhalla’s Fury(VEX). PRD’s positions in this match will be denoted in yellow while VEX’s will be in red.

💠Overview

This match will be the first time PRD and VEX have matched against each other in regular IB. PRD’s strongest players moved to BUNS and BUNS’ weakest players moved to PRD for the weekend as an experiment to see who they each would get matched with so PRD would lose the edge in firepower against VEX. PRD’s strongest player is 540k while VEX’s Celeste is around 650k. VEX, on the other hand, lost players throughout the season to other alliances so they will have fewer players than PRD. Since battle power matters more than numbers in regular IB, VEX should have a slight edge.

💠Starting Positions and Talents

PRD

  • Started with 33 players and ended with 39
  • 2 Attack talents
  • 25 Defense talents
  • 6 Support talents

VEX

  • Started with 20 players and ended with 40
  • 5 Attack talents
  • 15 Defense talents
  • 0 Support talents

💠Tower 1

VEX sent 2 players to Tower 1 while PRD sent 10. With VEX lacking numbers, the two players should have followed the rest of their teammates and given up Tower 1 to reinforce elsewhere. Two players aren’t usually going to do much unless they’re some of the strongest in the game. Even if they were, PRD had several good spawns for Tower 1 and VEX didn’t so they will likely be able to destroy at least one relocation. PRD’s relocations are standard and disciplined. They surrounded the tower with four relocations and tried to leverage their better spawn to move to VEX’s side of the tower. All the relocations are compact and teammates are next to each other. PRD should be able to take this tower without much difficulty.

💠Tower 4

VEX sent 9 players to Tower 4 and PRD relocated 12. VEX’s relocations are unconventional and PRD reached too far into the cookie jar. PRD thought they had a better spawn than VEX so one player tried to contest a spot on the top side of the tower instead of moving to the bottom side where they could get to the spot faster. VEX took advantage of that and relocated one of its players to block two of PRD’s relocations. The rest of VEX was a little too far from the tower. Those in the third row could position themselves in the second row to help their allies. PRD’s relocations were standard at this tower as well. PRD should be more cognizant of protecting their relocations when the enemy has a perfect corner spawn to block at the tower, especially against VEX because they leverage good spawns so well.

💠Central Tower

VEX sent 8 players to the center and PRD sent 8 as well with one overlap. One PRD member also tried to move to VEX’s side of the tower so that relocation would get destroyed or the player would be singled out and quickly zeroed. Overlaps are pretty unacceptable with how experienced PRD is.

💠Altars

PRD sent one player to the Sun Altar and VEX also sent one to the Moon Altar.

💠Home Towers

VEX had one guard stationed at the home tower while PRD had three guards at theirs.

💠Turning Point

At Tower 1, VEX managed to block one relocation and PRD was able to destroy one in exchange. They immediately captured the tower afterward. 10 PRD players finished their relocation which was a mistake in my opinion. Once PRD knew VEX only sent two players there, those in the back rows should have canceled their relocations immediately and put it on cooldown. Once the cooldown is finished, they should then move to the center or to Tower 4 to reinforce whichever tower needs help. Only five players should have completed their relocations. They wasted over six minutes of precious time of five players.

At Tower 4, VEX blocked two relocations and destroyed five. Instead of a 3-person advantage for PRD, VEX generated a 5-person advantage for themselves in the early minutes. VEX immediately seized the tower and quickly zeroed another enemy. This was a huge win for VEX. When teams opt to give up a tower, they need to take the tower on the other side of the map as soon as possible to balance the points.

In the center, VEX sent some of their strongest players there so PRD was having a hard time gaining any ground. PRD tried to rally enemies as best as they could but they were getting zeroed one at a time. By the time the Central Tower became available to capture at 10 minutes, VEX already had full control of the area. VEX was able to take the tower by 13.5 minutes.

At the same time, as soon as VEX’s home guard’s relocation came off cooldown, he relocated to Tower 1 despite PRD already having full control there and his relocation left VEX’s Tower 2 open. One player from spawn quickly took his place but PRD already made their move to invade. The lonely guard wasn’t able to stop three PRD players from showing up and taking the tower. VEX called reinforcements from Tower 4, the center, and the spawn. With the help of a couple of players, VEX managed to retake the tower by 15.5 minutes. The retake gave VEX three towers to PRD’s two and VEX was only down 1,500 points with 45 minutes to play. VEX made a couple of mistakes at this point. Multiple strong players relocated to the center despite VEX already having control so they were just wasting their strengths and time. They should have gone to their home tower instead to expel the invaders.

PRD didn’t give up at Tower 4. They took advantage of too many VEX players leaving Tower 4 to the center and their home tower. PRD players kept a quarter of VEX’s team at Tower 2 and kept sending players to Tower 4. VEX tried their best to destroy and block relocations but there were too many. Like moths to a flame, PRD moved in to zero those around the tower, surrounded it, and stole the tower by 20 minutes. It gave PRD a slight 5 points per second lead and PRD was only down 1,500 points with 39 minutes left. Had some players not moved to the already-secured center, VEX would still have Tower 4.

Once PRD captured Tower 4, they started moving several players from the tower to VEX’s home tower. Instead of entrusting their teammates who were already at Tower 2 and those who were respawning, multiple players from the center relocated to Tower 2 to help. VEX had the majority of their team at Tower 2 and its spawn, leaving only three players at the center, all of whom were several rows from the tower and one was moving to PRD’s home tower. PRD realized this immediately and moved from Tower 4 and the Sun Altar to surround the Central Tower. It forced VEX to respond by moving and teleporting players from Tower 2.

The maneuver split VEX up into four pockets. Several players were trying to take Tower 1, a quarter of the team was trying to defend Tower 2, a quarter was stopping PRD from taking center, a quarter was trying to steal Tower 3 from PRD to no avail, and the rest were zeroed and stuck in spawn. VEX couldn’t get anything done with their forces so split. They successfully defended their home and the center but they still had to take one more tower while PRD just needed to waste their team and troops. By 40 minutes, PRD was up 4,000 points and one side tower. VEX would go on to take Tower 1 at 53 minutes but by then PRD was already up 8,000 points with not enough time to win.

💠Summary

PRD’s Motsampan was the match MVP as they won the game with 92,350 points to VEX’s 82,300. The top performer on VEX had 4.4 million battlefield contribution while the top performer on PRD only had 1.4 million. That speaks to the power disparity between the two teams. VEX over-rotated too many players too many times and left their secured towers vulnerable. They committed too many players to defend their home tower instead of having a couple of strong players defend with the rest of the players who were respawning. VEX needed to split their strongest forces up and be more diligent at protecting towers they already secured and not leaving them open when they rotate. PRD did a good job of recognizing the cracks in VEX’s play and capitalizing on the opportunities. PRD also leveraged their numbers really well to overwhelm the opponent.

Who would win if both alliances had all their players? Let me know in the comments below!
