Ahoy there me hearties! The Battle of the Narrow Seas event is here from the browser game, Game of Thrones: Winter is Coming. Ship battles are a-coming- oh arr! This is the first ship battle event from the Game of Thrones: Winter is Coming browser game and hopefully there will be other events similar to this for all of Westeros to participate in! Excitement abounds as ships come aboard to ford across the seas of Westeros!

Image 1: Introduction to the Narrow Seas battle

In Image 1 above, the opening screen reveals a mysterious figure with their back to the player aboard a ship. Also, in the picture, there is in the foreground, a burning ship heading towards the mysterious figure plus other ships behind them with a soaring dragon billowing out a column of flame towards a wrecked ship and setting another on fire. This image alone was showing how enticing the new event, Battle of the Narrow Seas was going to be. As the event drew closer to occurring, players started to receive messages telling me about the event thus ensuring interest and what is going to happen next especially when Lord Daernyrs is mentioned in Image 2 below.

Image 3 then reveals that the timer is on a countdown until the Battle of the Narrow Seas begins! In the screen, another dragon is visible in action thus showing more details about the ship battles to come. Yo-ho-ho and a bottle of rum!

Then the rules are released about the event stating that players will each have a ship that can navigate across the northern part of Westeros in the Narrow Sea. Players are each given five voyages to complete daily to aid them achieving notoriety on the Narrow Seas battling against Euron of the Ironborn fleet and eventually fighting alongside a new commander called Daeron (Image 4 and 5).

Image 5: Daeron’s first speech

After Daeron is introduced to the Battle of the Narrow Seas Event, players are able to view his interesting commander values in the commander screen located by clicking on the helmet icon located at the bottom left hand corner of the screen. Then a player can scroll through all the available commanders to find out what Daeron is capable of adding to a players repertoire of current skills if unlocked. Daeron will add value to infantry set-ups and can help counter enemy infantry if cavalry is used which is a significant factor when deciding which troops to use in Ultimate tournament event where commanders are vital to a player’s success in the tournament phase when fighting other players to see who will reign supreme in the respective league that a player is in for example. Me hearties, what a commander to have especially if you play infantry a lot synergised with cavalry as a bonus!

At the appointed time, The Battle of the Narrow Seas begins. The first stage is to occupy Lorath lighthouse. The Battle of the Narrow Seas is divided into stages and has certain tasks that need to be completed so that the next stage of the event can unlock for the kingdom a player resides. In this event, all of K57 were allied fighting with Daeron to vanquish and occupy the Lorath Lighthouse region on the Narrow Seas event map. For each voyage that a player’s ship makes, six hundred supplies are available that replenish each time a voyage is completed. Players can earn lots of rewards in several ways per voyage trip. By the time, ACM joined the event, K57 had already achieved the stage goal of occupying Lorath Lighthouse which was a fantastic achievement made by the players who took part in this part of the Narrow Seas Battle event. The first stage has only twenty-four hours duration for the kingdom to reach the designated stage goal. To move a ship, each player can choose to either battle an Ironborn ship, salvage or move to free space on the event map. If a player chooses to fight an Ironborn ship, there are two types, Normal and elite versions. By attacking an Ironborn ship, a player can choose the commanders available to them, if they are gold and awakened even better to deliver killing blows to the Ironborn ship accompanied by their chosen dragon. Each choice of moving the ship costs fifteen supplies and only three million troops are available for each ship attack or salvage. The troops used in the deployment can be increased if a player completes salvage missions which are treasure ships that give three options that a player must choose one from and one option that can appear is more troops and specific troop types. The troops used are not the players own but are event generated and do not affect a players own army based in their castle. One thing to remember me hearties is that when a voyage is begun, fervor is enacted and no other troops can be doing other things like gathering too. So care needs to be taken whilst on those seas! Supplies are another reward that can be given by completing salvage and in the Battle of the Narrow Seas voyage, a supply increase can be raised from level 1 to level 5 too as well as unlocking the research tree for the points accrued in the event daily. Thus on Day 1, the points are calculated and given to players the next day. Other rewards available are numerous but two heavily coveted ones by all players are the blue crystals that can be used to upgrade A castle exteriors that are redeemable in the shop and more recently, in the July version of the Recruitment Pass.

The next stage of the Battle of the Narrow Seas was in the region called Tarth Lighthouse. The task was to occupy Tarth Lighthouse and required more battles to defeat the enemy Ironborn led by Euron (Image 6).

Image 6: Tarth Lighthouse region

By the time ACM joined in fully, the Tarth Lighthouse had been captured and the seas region overwhelmed by other K57 players such as the CTN alliance which was welcome news to wake up. Thank-you for doing this for K57 CTN and other players or alliances that were involved. On some of the salvage trips which ACM concentrated mainly upon, treasure map fragments were discovered and once all six pieces were collected, an additional three encounters revealed themselves (Image 7). These additional three encounters enabled any player to possibly have the opportunity to raise the highest battle commanders like Cersei to even higher abilities amongst other rewards to improve your ship’s quality on that specific voyage. Again, five voyages were available for each player to use daily.

The next image reveals what each player’s ship looked like (Image 8).

Image 8: Lady Mara 2 in action of ACM

In Image 8, it shows a player’s ship with a green bar which represents the number of troops still available for Lady Mara 2, in this case to use. Any troops lost at each salvage or battle against an Ironborn would cause the green bar to decrease in value and the only way to replenish the troops was to find troop number buffs in the mysterious treasures that were found by salvage opportunities. Once a player lost all their troops, their current voyage ends and any supplies not used are lost so it is wise to decide when to attack an Ironborn ship. Players also get attacked every time their ship does a salvage mission too and can be from more than one Ironborn ship and sometimes not at all. Image 9 below, reveals Duke Nacoya’s efforts in a battle against an Ironborn ship.

Image 8: Nacoya’s battle report

On Day 3 of the event, Image 9 shows how magnificent K57 was for stage 2 of the event.

Image 9: all stages of Massey’s Hook

The best thing for all of K57 was all the rewards were given to all who took part in the event on that day whether they were just fighting Euron and his troops or just doing salvage missions. For ACM, the efforts of all the players on K57 was highly appreciated and thank-you me fellow pirates or sailors ! During day 3, the objective was to defeat the Ghostly silence (Image 10).

Image 10; Stage 3 of Narrow seas

After six hours of intense effort from all of K57, The Silence was defeated and Qohor Lighthouse was successfully occupied. Well done to all who took part in this as you enabled everyone on K57 to receive these rewards too! Then came a conversation between Daeron and Daenyrs which focused upon the last sea region. By this stage, a particularly good strategy had developed. Best strategy is to go for more naval supplies to get more salvage turns, go for one complete treasure map which gives access to top commanders promotion and to achieve high points from one voyage by getting more troops.

On Day 4, all players were able to use their hammers on the research tree to improve their event stats which was incredible to see how these improvements enabled less supplies to be used and additional battle buffs to be added to the troops used in the Battle of the Narrow Seas event. Image 11 below reveals that the last stage, 4 which lasted for two days was completed by K57 and the next Image, 12 shows Daeron defeating Euron in battle. It was an amazing event me hearties and all should join in as this was the next stage after the events of Essos!
