📕 Story Background

The seaside town’s post office is about to close.

Before leaving, Gu Yan, the town’s respected lighthouse keeper, wrote seven letters and gave them to seven different residents.

However, the seventh letter, which was supposed to be delivered to the mayor, mysteriously disappeared.

The envelope had not been opened, and there were no signs of forced entry. Stranger still, everyone remembered seeing only six letters.

What did the seventh letter say? Who took it? And why did someone want everyone to believe that it had never existed?

Possible Locations

Location A – The Post Office Archive Room

A narrow room filled with old letters and official records. The window is small, difficult to reach, and usually kept locked.

Location B – The Mayor’s Office

A private office overlooking the harbor. The mayor claims that he never received the seventh letter.

Location C – The Lighthouse

An isolated lighthouse at the edge of town. It contains an old spare-lamp box that is rarely opened.

8.There is only one set of footprints in the sand outside the post office, and they lead away from the building.

Correct Answer: C – The Abandoned Service Elevator

The Deduction Logic:

The Midnight Bell was not removed through the main lobby. The entrance was continuously monitored by guards and security cameras, and no one was seen carrying a large object outside.

The old service corridor was used to transport the bell, as shown by the fresh dust marks and tiny brass fragments found along the floor. However, the bell did not remain there.

The fragments led directly to the abandoned service elevator. Although the elevator had supposedly been disconnected for decades, its mechanical system had recently been inspected. This means it could still be operated manually during the six-minute power outage.

The security system recorded no opening of the display-room door, while the disturbed dust around the elevator’s inner door proved that the bell had been moved through an old hidden route connected to the elevator.

The handwritten note—“The bell was never meant to stay in the tower”—also suggests that someone familiar with the hotel’s original structure deliberately moved the bell to a secret location.

Therefore, the Midnight Bell was transported through the old service corridor and hidden inside the Abandoned Service Elevator.
