📕Story Background

You are the lead investigator for the city's public transport authority. A famous architect, Daniel Moore, disappeared after attending a late-night exhibition at the Central Design Museum.

At 11:42 PM, Daniel's phone sent one final location signal from an underground subway station. His phone was later found on a bench. There was no sign of Daniel. The strange part was that the station had only three possible exits.

Possible Locations

Exit A – The Main Entrance

A bright entrance facing a busy street. Security cameras operate continuously, and taxis pass by throughout the night.

Exit B – The Underground Passage

A long pedestrian tunnel connecting the station to an old shopping district. It is usually quiet after 11 PM, and several sections have poor lighting.

Exit C – The Emergency Stairwell

A narrow staircase leading to the surface behind an old apartment building. It is normally locked from the outside.

The Evidence

Daniel's final text message to his assistant was recovered:

"I'm at the station. Something strange is happening.

"I can hear people walking, but whenever I look around, nobody is there."

"The announcements are still playing, but the station seems completely empty."

"I'm following the sound."

That was his last message.

🔍Known Clues

1. Daniel's phone was found on a bench near the station's central platform.

2. The station's security cameras showed Daniel entering the station, but no footage showed him leaving through the main entrance.

3. The underground passage has several old ventilation shafts connected to the buildings above.

4. Daniel's assistant said he had been particularly interested in the museum's exhibition about "sound and architecture."

5. A maintenance worker reported hearing footsteps in the underground passage at exactly 11:45 PM, although he saw nobody there.

6. The emergency stairwell alarm was never triggered.

7. At 11:48 PM, a subway train passed through the station without stopping.

----- Previous answer(A Will Written in Ashes)-----

Culprit: Richard Cole

Motive: Richard Cole murdered Arthur Blackwood to hide his manipulation of the inheritance documents and prevent Arthur from revealing his illegal changes to the family records.

Deduction Logic – The Burning Will Mystery:

The locked room was only a distraction. The missing will page proved that someone had entered the study before it was sealed. The burned paper fragments matched Richard's legal documents, connecting him directly to the destroyed will page. As Arthur's lawyer, Richard was the only person who fully understood the inheritance details and had access to the documents.

Crime Reconstruction:

Before dinner, Richard entered Arthur's study under the excuse of reviewing documents. After Arthur discovered the truth about the altered records, Richard killed him and removed the important will page.

He burned the page in the fireplace, locked the study, and attempted to make the crime look like an impossible locked-room mystery.

Conclusion:

The missing will page, burned evidence, and connection to the legal documents prove that the murder was carefully planned.

Richard Cole is the killer.
