💠Introduction

What’s up, folks? Welcome back to my Illusion Battlefield League(IBL) series, where I take a closer look at different matches. The IBL tournament differs from regular IB in that everyone will construct marches and skill builds using a fixed set of skills. At different stages of the tournament, more immortals and skills will become available. Everyone has access to the same immortals and the same skills. Castle skins and Lord Talents do not affect the more fast-paced battles of IBL. Relocations and marching speed are also faster. The event is one of the most entertaining events in Infinity Kingdom, and players enjoy spectating, almost like a sporting event. In this article, I’m going to take a closer look at the match between Server 452’s OnlyFades(OF) and Server 500’s Best team(BT).

💠Overview

OF entered the matchup with a 5–2 record, with losses to DH and ICE, and has established itself as a solid mid-tier team in its second IBL season. They typically field around 25–35 players each week and have shown enough consistency to compete with most teams outside the top tier. BT also came in at 5–2, with losses to ARC and DH, including a defeat to DH by a similar margin as OF. However, BT is generally the weaker team and also struggles more with attendance. Given the difference in roster depth and overall performance, OF should enter the match as the favorite.

💠Starting Positions and Talents

OF

  • Started with 17 players and ended with 31
  • 11 Attack talents
  • 4 Defense talents
  • 2 Support talents

BT

  • Started with 13 players and ended with 18
  • 9 Attack talents
  • 4 Defense talents
  • 0 Support talent

💠Tower 1

OF sent 5 players to Tower 1 while BT committed only one. OF even positioned a player to contest the lone BT relocation on BT’s side of the tower, though if BT assigns the correct spawn, they should still win that race. Regardless, BT’s overall allocation is questionable. As the bottom-sided team, they would have been better off conceding Tower 4 instead of Tower 1, since Tower 4 is naturally closer to OF’s spawn and therefore harder for BT to contest efficiently.

💠Tower 4

OF and BT each sent 6 players to Tower 4, though BT had one overlapping relocation that weakened their setup. OF also had an edge spawn available that could have been used to block at least one of BT’s relocations, but even without taking advantage of it, their positional advantage should allow them to arrive quickly enough to destroy a couple of incoming relocations. With even numbers on paper but a cleaner setup and better access to the objective, OF should have the early advantage at Tower 4.

💠Central Tower

OF sent 5 players to the Central Tower while BT committed only one, meaning BT effectively conceded both Tower 1 and the center in the opening minutes. That is a major strategic problem because a team needs control of at least three towers to establish a reliable win condition. Instead of spreading resources into Tower 4 while abandoning two other objectives, BT should have sacrificed Tower 4 entirely and overloaded Tower 1 and the Central Tower, where they would have had a much better chance of building early control.

💠Altars

Neither team sent players to either altar.

💠Home Towers

OF stationed one player at their home tower while BT had three at theirs.

💠Play-by-Play

At Tower 1, BT opened well by blocking one relocation and destroying another, while OF's remaining three players landed too far from the objective to immediately pressure it. With BT positioned directly next to the tower, they were able to repeatedly interrupt OF's capture attempts and force them to rely on rallies to break through the defenses. That delay bought BT enough time to send reinforcements, while OF responded with four additional players of their own. BT gradually expanded their control around the objective, but OF's superior numbers eventually became too much to overcome. OF captured Tower 1 at the 9-minute mark and then continued fighting until every BT player was cleared from the area.

At Tower 4, BT opened by destroying one OF relocation, and both sides quickly settled into rally-heavy fighting since solo attacks were not doing enough damage. One BT player made a strong play by relocating behind OF’s formation and zeroing four players by himself, while the rest of BT also found success on the opposite side by eliminating two more. OF answered with a couple of kills of their own, but the key difference was reinforcements. More OF latecomers continued arriving, and the growing numbers advantage eventually overwhelmed BT’s defenders. After a long back-and-forth fight, OF finally secured the objective at the 23-minute mark.

In the center, OF eventually surrounded the Central Tower with 10 players while a lone BT member relocated directly into the middle of their formation. Despite being completely isolated, the BT player held out remarkably well and forced OF to spend nearly 10 minutes wearing him down with rallies. Once he was finally zeroed, OF had complete control of the area and captured the Central Tower at the 13-minute mark, giving them an early lead and a strong position for the rest of the match.

At the 11-minute mark, BT teleported a single player to OF’s home tower, where only one guard was defending. The invader quickly zeroed the ungarrisoned defender and captured the tower by himself at the 14-minute mark, giving BT control of two objectives and briefly slowing OF’s momentum. BT continued pressuring the two side towers afterward, but they were never able to make meaningful progress. OF steadily extended its advantage and held a 20,000-point lead with 22 minutes remaining. To close out the match, OF teleported into BT’s home tower and stole the objective, effectively sealing BT’s fate.

💠Summary

OF defeated BT 100,000 to 39,900, with Tara earning MVP. Both teams started shorthanded, but OF’s late arrivals ultimately made the difference. Even though OF committed heavily to the Central Tower despite facing little resistance there, they still had enough strength to remain competitive at both outer objectives until reinforcements arrived. BT’s strong opening at Tower 1 delayed OF and bought valuable time for the rest of the map, and their rotation to steal OF’s home tower was a smart play. However, once OF’s numbers advantage grew, BT simply could not keep up in the fights. OF finishes the first phase at 6–2, while BT ends at 5–3.
