💠Introduction

What’s up, folks? Welcome back to my Illusion Battlefield League(IBL) series, where I take a closer look at different matches. The IBL tournament differs from regular IB in that everyone will construct marches and skill builds using a fixed set of skills. At different stages of the tournament, more immortals and skills will become available. Everyone has access to the same immortals and the same skills. Castle skins and Lord Talents do not affect the more fast-paced battles of IBL. Relocations and marching speed are also faster. The event is one of the most entertaining events in Infinity Kingdom, and players enjoy spectating, almost like a sporting event. In this article, I’m going to take a closer look at the match between Server 56’s Hakuna Matata(HMB) and Server 462’s Dream Heaven(DH).

💠Overview

HMB entered the matchup at 5–1 with two weeks remaining in the season. Their only loss came against AoW in a match where they were never particularly competitive, while most of their victories came in dominant fashion against lower-tier opponents. HMB has consistently been a solid mid-tier IBL team and typically fields around 25–30 players each week. DH also entered at 5–1, with their lone loss coming against HOT, and similarly dominated most of their other opponents. DH generally holds the attendance advantage, while HMB brings more IBL experience, making this a fairly even matchup with manpower favoring DH and experience favoring HMB.

💠Starting Positions and Talents

HMB

  • Started with 21 players and ended with 26
  • 11 Attack talents
  • 7 Defense talents
  • 3 Support talents

DH

  • Started with 32 players and ended with 35
  • 18 Attack talents
  • 8 Defense talents
  • 6 Support talent

💠Tower 1

At Tower 1, HMB sent four players while DH committed five. One DH player attempted to relocate to the north side of the tower to block HMB, but because that position is closer to HMB's spawn, HMB should easily win the relocation race and block DH instead. HMB also has the better overall formation, with all four players grouped together directly around the objective, while DH's players are spread out and positioned farther away. Despite having one fewer player, HMB's superior positioning should give them the early advantage at Tower 1.

💠Tower 4

At Tower 4, HMB sent six players while DH committed nine, with one DH player overlapping two teammates. DH again tried to relocate onto HMB’s side of the tower, while one HMB player attempted to block a DH relocation on the west side. Because Tower 4 is closer to HMB’s spawn, HMB should be favored to win both relocation contests, which would help shrink the initial numbers deficit. DH’s overlapping player should also cancel immediately rather than risk blocking two teammates and weakening their setup before the fight even begins.

💠Central Tower

At the Central Tower, HMB sent five players while DH committed seven. One DH player attempted to block an HMB relocation on the north side of the objective, but with that position closer to HMB’s spawn, HMB should once again win the relocation race and reduce DH’s effective numbers advantage. From there, the battle should come down to execution and rotations. Whichever team can zero more opponents before reinforcements arrive, or secure its outer towers quickly enough to rotate additional players into the center first, should have the advantage when the Central Tower opens.

💠Altars

Neither team sent players to either altar.

💠Home Towers

HMB stationed two guards at their home tower. DH had one at theirs. DH also sent one player to HMB’s home tower, which will get destroyed.

💠Play-by-Play

At Tower 1, HMB blocked one DH relocation and destroyed another late arrival, immediately neutralizing DH’s numbers advantage. Despite having more players in the area, DH failed to capitalize, sending only occasional rallies and solo attacks while much of their force on the south side remained focused on sieging the tower. HMB repeatedly interrupted those siege attempts while winning the engagements on the west side, eventually zeroing three DH players and advancing to control three sides of the objective. They also did an excellent job blocking incoming reinforcements, preventing DH from rebuilding their numbers. HMB captured Tower 1 at the 10-minute mark before zeroing a couple more DH players who failed to garrison themselves. DH continued to send players back to Tower 1.

At Tower 4, HMB blocked two relocations and destroyed two more, completely erasing DH’s initial numbers advantage. They then destroyed another latecomer’s relocation to keep DH from rebuilding their presence around the objective. Both teams relied heavily on rallies, but DH struggled to break HMB’s defenses and lost too many of their attacks. HMB steadily gained control by rallying two targets at a time while using solo attacks to pressure others. They then relocated two players behind DH, a move DH should have punished, but instead HMB used the position to accelerate their eliminations. HMB captured Tower 4 at the 10-minute mark and finished clearing the remaining DH players shortly afterward.

In the center, HMB blocked one DH relocation and destroyed another, immediately swinging the numbers in their favor. HMB was winning nearly every solo engagement while DH struggled to deal meaningful damage in return. HMB then aggressively relocated behind DH, allowing them to block incoming reinforcements while gradually surrounding the remaining defenders. They zeroed DH players one by one, and by the time the Central Tower opened, HMB had nearly complete control of the area. With little resistance remaining, HMB captured the objective at the 13-minute mark, giving them control of four towers and a massive early-game advantage.

While HMB secured full control of the Central Tower and Tower 4, DH continued funneling players back to Tower 1 and eventually found an opening when HMB was slow to reinforce. By the time HMB started rotating players over from the center, DH had already flown all but two defenders and was blocking nearly every incoming relocation. DH rallied down the remaining HMB players and reclaimed Tower 1 at the 19-minute mark. However, the commitment came at a steep cost, with roughly half of DH tied up at Tower 1 and much of the rest stuck near spawn. HMB exploited that imbalance by invading DH’s home tower at the 15-minute mark, where only one ungarrisoned guard was defending, quickly zeroing him and stealing the objective as DH retook Tower 1. Eventually, HMB recaptured Tower 1 after DH mostly gave up. From there, HMB stabilized their towers and defended them for the rest of the match.

💠Summary

HMB defeated DH 100,000 to 16,700, with Mr President earning MVP. Despite DH fielding significantly more players, their poor opening relocations erased much of that advantage, as numerous players were blocked or destroyed before they could establish themselves around the objectives. Once the effective numbers were evened out, HMB’s superior builds, rallies, and garrisoning completely took over the fights, to the point where more than half of DH’s team was respawning while nearly all of HMB remained active on the field. DH needed to leverage their attendance advantage immediately by securing objectives and then using their numbers to deny HMB’s relocations, but they never managed to do so. HMB also rotated well after losing Tower 1, trading it for DH’s home tower and maintaining control of the match. HMB improves to 6–1, while DH falls to 5–2.
