💠Introduction

What’s up, folks? Welcome back to my Illusion Battlefield(IB) series where I take a closer look at different matches. IB is different from the IB League tournament in that you will use your normal teams, skill sets, talents, and decoration skins so strength is extremely relevant. The mode is also much slower-paced. Relocations and marching speed are slower. The event is one of the most entertaining events in Infinity Kingdom that players enjoy spectating, almost like a sporting event. In this article, I’m going to take a closer look at the match between Server 283’s HouseofTargaryen(RED) and Server 300’s Fumo Team(FT). RED’s positions in this match will be denoted in yellow while FT’s will be in red.

💠Overview

Both alliances hail from relatively new servers that may not have had as much experience in IBL. There are a number of veteran players in FT that are capable of carrying the team. I don’t expect either alliance to make it far into the tournament, but in the early stages, these types of matches with a fairly even number of players on both sides are entertaining and there isn’t a better way to get better than to play more.

💠Starting Positions and Talents

RED

  • Started with 23 players and ended with 32
  • 14 Attack talents
  • 8 Defense talents
  • 1 Support talents

FT

  • Started with 19 players and ended with 25
  • 8 Attack talents
  • 9 Defense talents
  • 2 Support talents

💠Tower 1

RED sent eight players to Tower 1 with one player overlapping two others. Five players relocated to FT’s territory. FT sent five players with four players adjacent to the tower. Four spots are contested by RED, but since they are all on FT’s side of the tower, FT should win all of the races which puts RED in a huge predicament and wastes a lot of their players’ time. It should also even the playing field for FT. RED can benefit from organized markers.

💠Tower 4

Both teams relocated six players to Tower 4. RED tried to block two relocations but unfortunately, they didn’t have any good edge spawns that made use of their positional advantage at the tower. FT also tried blocking three towers but was also unlikely to succeed. FT has better coverage around the tower so they should have an easier time taking the tower.

💠Central Tower

RED sent one player to FT’s side of the Central Tower and FT relocated three players. FT would likely just block the enemy and have free control of the area.

💠Altars

RED sent one player to each altar and FT disregarded both.

💠Home Towers

RED had six players guarding their home tower which is four or five too many to start the game, especially in a game with so few players. FT had two at theirs.

💠Play-By-Play

At Tower 1, RED blocked one relocation, but FT blocked four and destroyed another. Instead of having a numbers advantage, RED found themselves on the back foot. RED quickly zeroed an enemy to start dwindling the numbers but was unable to keep it up. RED tried sending reinforcements, but FT did an excellent job blocking them. With only one RED player left, FT made a move for the tower and captured it by the nine-minute mark. Some players started relocating to the center while several RED members were still moving toward Tower 1.

At Tower 4, RED blocked a relocation. FT blocked one in response and destroyed two, giving them a two-person advantage. They seized the tower immediately and turned their focus to the enemies. One was quickly eliminated, then the next, and finally, the last was zeroed in quick succession. They surrounded the tower and prevented anyone from getting close. It was a methodical takeover spearheaded by two veterans.

In the center, FT blocked a relocation which gave them free rein of the area. One RED member started relocating to the center and the three FT guards did not respond and destroy the relocation until it was too late. Their reaction was ten seconds too slow. Suddenly, one member turned into four, then five. Instead of destroying and blocking relocations, FT was too focused on the fights and allowed RED to congregate. By 15 minutes, RED pushed FT back and had full control of the right side of the tower and they had superior numbers. FT had only four players left. Another five minutes passed and no one from FT survived. RED captured the tower with no resistance. FT had carved out a 10,000-point lead in the first 20 minutes.

Meanwhile, at 14 minutes, when FT players at Tower 1 moved to the center, they didn’t communicate to determine who was going to stay to defend the tower from incoming attacks. Most of the players relocated elsewhere, leaving Tower 1 free for the taking. One of the FT guards was snoozing and didn’t offer much support. The other tried to no avail. It gave RED its second tower, followed by the Central Tower shortly after.

FT didn’t despair though. They quickly changed focus, gave up the center, and started relocating to Tower 1. RED should have done a better job destroying and blocking relocations but they even let relocations next to them finish constructing. Once one player landed, he could garrison other relocations and soon a horde of FT followed. About a third of the team surrounded the tower, zeroed all the RED players in the vicinity, and stole the tower back at 26 minutes.

Immediately, FT teleported to RED’s home tower where only one guard stood. He managed to capture the tower, giving FT four towers to RED’s lone Central Tower. RED slowly raced down the lane and sent about a third of their team to deal with two players at the tower. It took RED nearly ten minutes to reclaim the tower, but not before FT carved out a 12,000-point lead with 25 minutes left in the match. FT would go on to hold their three towers until RED took Tower 1 at the 52-minute mark and Tower 4 at 57 minutes but the match was already out of their hands.

💠Summary

FT’s Mike was the deserved match MVP as he carried the offensive load at Tower 4 and then again at Tower 1 later in the match. FT won the match with 88,500 points to RED’s 78,900. RED lost Tower 1 solely due to their poor relocations. They overplayed their hand and thought their spawn locations could get them to their spots faster than FT could despite Tower 1 being equidistant from both teams. Unfortunately for RED, they didn’t get any good spawns for Tower 4. RED played the retake in the center well while FT over-rotated from Tower 1 too early. RED needed to save their teleports in case of invasions, especially when they were in a winning position. It took them too long to retake their home tower. It feels like both teams lack good communication skills. Some players have a good understanding of fundamentals and they made the difference this match.
