More benefits, more surprises
The 11th round of Arena of Honor was beginning, and Killer Marta and her teammates—Testar, Billiert, Goliat, Beauab, Star, Marco00, SkyRoket, ElzaTitania, and Xdrax—were gearing up to compete. This time, they had been assigned to represent House Tyrell, a role that came with great responsibility and required a perfectly executed strategy to face their opponents.
The week before, they had gathered to review the plan, and Killer Marta had shared strategy videos, analyzing different tactics for the upcoming match. After much discussion, they decided that this time they would go with a 100% offensive strategy. Everyone trusted their offensive abilities and believed this would be their best chance to advance in this challenging competition.
At exactly 6:00 PM, the pairing began. Killer Marta, with her experience and analytical mind, took a quick look at the board. She already sensed that this match was going to be very, very difficult, as most of the houses were fielding powerful players. However, despite the risk, we decided not to change our strategy. It was time for offense, and there was no turning back.
As soon as the match started, we set up offensive infantry posts at various strategic points. Once established, Killer Marta and her teammates began to move quickly to capture the first altars. However, at that moment, like a cold bucket of water, Biet from House Targaryen appeared. He attacked with overwhelming force and took down Killer Marta. That account was a spear type with maximized T5, giving him a considerable advantage. Although they managed to steal the first altar, we were not going to give up. That same player then went after the Maiden’s Altar; although it was reinforced, we knew that SkyRoket, our strongest player and infantry expert, could stand up to him. Confidently, SkyRoket launched a rally, and with a single strike, we managed to drive him out.
Immediately afterward, our opponents declared a cavalry rally against us, and of course, we were overrun because the cavalry countered the infantry. This situation put us at a clear disadvantage. Our opponents were true beasts, well-organized and highly coordinated. My teammates and I kept trying to reclaim the Maiden’s Tower, but after two minutes, we had no choice but to give up that location and focus on the other towers. Our scoreboard showed that we were in last place; we needed to grit our teeth and recover as quickly as possible.
Time was passing, and with each altar we took, we suffered bloody hits. It felt like our opponents were double in number or strength, and we were truly struggling. We had never faced opponents so well-organized and strong. Still, we didn’t give up and kept trying to capture altars, even though it was extremely difficult
Then it was time for the Dragon Pits, and we headed there. We didn’t want to capture more than one as we had done in the past; we decided to focus on capturing just one and pouring in all possible reinforcement troops. But that didn’t work either: we were wiped out like butter, and we had to abandon them, adding yet another setback to our already challenging match.
Killer Marta still held the hope of recovering points through our offensive camps. She hoped that with the watchtowers, we could get the necessary boost to place ourselves in the mid-ranking, even if we didn’t win. But when she looked up, she saw that House Baratheon had countered our infantry by setting up cavalry posts. With this strategy, they managed to take all the watchtowers, which felt like a true nightmare for us.
The only option left for us to try and recover points was to enter the City of Glory and attempt to hold it. SkyRoket launched a rally that we filled to the max. We managed to enter the City of Glory, but our happiness only lasted about 30 seconds, as once again, like a cyclone sweeping through, we were annihilated.
At that point, the gap between us and the fifth-ranked team was nearly 15,000 points. The situation was desperate, and we knew we had to do something quickly. So we decided to destroy all the offensive posts and create trading posts instead. We tried to do this as quickly as possible; all of us were giving 200% of our accounts.
Once the trading posts were completed, it seemed like we were making a little progress in points, but we were still far behind. The mining site opened, and we sent all the troops we could in that direction to gain some ground and points.
While we continued fighting over altars, it seemed that the opponents were more focused on the City of Glory, which gave us a bit of breathing room. Finally, when the mine pits opened, we rushed for them like madmen, as we urgently needed them. At last, we managed to capture two and hold them until they were emptied.
We were recovering points, and suddenly, House Star lost its main castle to House Baratheon. This was good news for us since House Star was in fifth place. Our next move was to try to capture all possible altars from House Star, prioritizing the Maiden’s Altars, as they add more points through trading posts. It was a frantic battle, but we managed to capture the altars and hold them. Every Maiden’s Altar we captured, we reinforced with all available troops, and so it went until the end. However, unfortunately, we fell short by only 3,000 points and didn’t reach fifth place, ending up in last place.
Killer Marta was somewhat disappointed; she knew that the offensive strategy had been a mistake and that if she had created trading posts from the beginning, things might have turned out differently. Nonetheless, she learned an important lesson.
In the end, on Discord, our team ended up laughing at the defeat we suffered. “There’s nothing better than a few laughs after the beating we took.”
