📕Story Background

Our neighbor, the wealthy Mr. Witt, often showed off his priceless diamond to others, attracting many visitors to his home. For safety and aesthetics, he placed the diamond in a large, narrow-necked glass bottle. The bottle itself weighs more than 30 kilograms, making it difficult for an ordinary person to move. Additionally, Witt installed an anti-theft alarm system around the room where the diamond was kept. If someone moved the glass bottle, even just by a little bit, the alarm would sound.

One night, Witt returned home and entered the room where the diamond was kept. To his shock, the glass bottle was still there in an intact way, but the diamond inside had disappeared! Witt then immediately called the police. What could have happened?

After investigating, the detectives found that three people had entered the house after Witt left:

1. The butler, Alfred.
2. The carpet cleaner, Kelly.
3. The roving guard, Johnson.

After separate interrogations, the police ruled out the possibility of a joint operation.

The cookies were not stolen by a person but were eaten by Buddy, the dog. Buddy loves sweet treats and took advantage of a moment when no one was watching to sneak into the kitchen and eat some cookies from the table. He also knocked over a few jars in the process. Some of the crumbs fell on the grass as he left the kitchen, and he likely played in the bushes, leaving more crumbs there.

After hearing these clues, Mei decided to check the kitchen and the grassy area again. Finally, she found more cookie crumbs in the bushes and saw Buddy nearby licking his lips. Mrs. Lee admitted that her dog indeed loves sweet treats and can't resist them when he sees them. She laughed and promised to keep a closer eye on Buddy in the future to prevent him from sneaking any more treats.
