💠Introduction

What’s up, folks? Welcome back to my Illusion Battlefield League(IBL) series, where I take a closer look at different matches. The IBL tournament differs from regular IB in that everyone will construct marches and skill builds using a fixed set of skills. At different stages of the tournament, more immortals and skills will become available. Everyone has access to the same immortals and the same skills. Castle skins and Lord Talents do not affect the more fast-paced battles of IBL. Relocations and marching speed are also faster. The event is one of the most entertaining events in Infinity Kingdom, and players enjoy spectating, almost like a sporting event. In this article, I’m going to take a closer look at the match between Server 73’s Snugglebunnies(BUNS) and Server 530’s Shadow Judgment(SJ).

💠Overview

BUNS entered the Group Elimination phase with a perfect 3–0 record, dominating every match despite facing relatively weak competition. Their biggest weakness throughout the season has been attendance, as they have typically fielded only around ten players per match, although they managed to muster additional support and completely dominated OF in the opening round of the playoffs. SJ entered the playoffs with a perfect 8–0 record, but they also benefited from a relatively weak schedule and did not face any legitimate contenders during the Points Phase. They demolished LS in the first round to set up this second-round matchup against BUNS. While BUNS has plenty of experience, SJ should enter as the favorite given the significant attendance advantage they have maintained throughout the season.

💠Starting Positions and Talents

  • 9 Attack talents
  • 6 Defense talents
  • 2 Support talents

SJ

  • Started with 23 players and ended with 27
  • 17 Attack talents

💠Tower 1

BUNS sent six players to Tower 1, while SJ committed four. Both teams contested the top-left relocation spot, but the outcome was far more important for SJ. If BUNS lost the spot, they would still hold a 5–4 numbers advantage around the objective, but if SJ lost it, they would fall to just three players and effectively concede control of the tower. With much more at stake, the onus was on SJ to reach the spot first and block BUNS’ relocation.

💠Tower 4

BUNS opted to concede Tower 4 due to their attendance disadvantage, while SJ sent five players to the uncontested objective with one overlapping relocation. Once it became clear that BUNS was not contesting the tower, one of the overlapping players should have immediately canceled and redirected to the Central Tower. SJ simply did not need five players at an uncontested Tower 4 during the opening minutes, and that extra player would have been far more valuable reinforcing the primary battle in the center.

💠Central Tower

BUNS sent nine players to the Central Tower, while SJ committed eight. One SJ player attempted an aggressive relocation onto BUNS’ side of the objective with the potential to block three incoming relocations. However, if BUNS timed and positioned their relocations properly, they should easily win the race to that spot. If successful, BUNS would preserve their numbers advantage while leaving SJ with one fewer player around the crucial Central Tower.

💠Altars

BUNS didn’t send anyone to either altar. SJ sent one to the Sun Altar and two to the Moon Altars, effectively nullifying their numbers advantage.

💠Home Towers

SJ stationed two players at their home tower and sent one to BUNS’ home tower. BUNS moved one of their players to block the incoming relocation.

💠Play-by-Play

At Tower 1, BUNS blocked one SJ relocation and destroyed two others, quickly establishing a 3–1 advantage around the objective. They immediately bombarded the remaining SJ players with attacks, forcing them to shield and leaving little resistance around the tower. BUNS captured the objective without much difficulty just four minutes into the match, then destroyed the remaining incoming relocations and zeroed the enemies still in the area. With Tower 1 firmly secured, a couple of BUNS players began relocating toward the Central Tower while the others remained behind to defend the objective.

At Tower 4, SJ captured the objective uncontested just four minutes into the match after BUNS elected to concede it. With no reason to keep their entire force at the secured tower, two SJ players immediately began making their way toward the Central Tower to reinforce their teammates in the crucial battle there.

In the middle, BUNS narrowly won the relocation race, giving them a slight early advantage. They immediately hammered the closest SJ players with solo attacks, zeroing one while also destroying an incoming relocation before eliminating another defender. BUNS then began advancing toward SJ’s position and surrounding the tower, while SJ failed to make enough of an effort to destroy the relocations building directly beside them. That allowed BUNS to steadily establish complete control of the area, flying every SJ player in their path as they pushed forward. BUNS captured the crucial Central Tower at the 11-minute mark, opening up a substantial early-game advantage.

SJ continued sending players back to the Central Tower, recognizing it as their best path back into the match, and eventually concentrated most of their forces around the objective. At the 14-minute mark, with roughly half of SJ still in spawn and the other half fighting in the center, BUNS took advantage of the opening and teleported a lone player to SJ’s home tower, where only one guard was defending. The BUNS invader zeroed the guard, blocked one incoming relocation, destroyed another, and captured the tower at the 17-minute mark, putting SJ even further on the back foot. SJ repeatedly attempted to relocate beside the invader, but he continued destroying as many relocations as possible while BUNS relocated and teleported additional players in to reinforce the position. At the same time, SJ was being overwhelmed elsewhere on the map, allowing BUNS to shift additional pressure toward Tower 4 in an attempt to steal SJ’s final objective and seal the match.

💠Summary

BUNS dominated SJ 100,000 to 17,600, with Arrakis earning MVP. Despite having the attendance advantage, SJ never felt like they were in control of the match. They attempted too many ambitious relocations to block BUNS and repeatedly lost those races, putting themselves at an immediate disadvantage. SJ also committed too many players to the altars instead of leveraging their superior numbers at the opening objectives, leaving them outnumbered at both Tower 1 and the Central Tower despite fielding more players overall. BUNS took full advantage of those mistakes and controlled the match from start to finish. BUNS advances to face NG+ in two weeks, while SJ drops into the Silver Bracket.
