💠Introduction

What’s up, folks? Welcome back to my Illusion Battlefield League(IBL) series, where I take a closer look at different matches. The IBL tournament differs from regular IB in that everyone will construct marches and skill builds using a fixed set of skills. At different stages of the tournament, more immortals and skills will become available. Everyone has access to the same immortals and the same skills. Castle skins and Lord Talents do not affect the more fast-paced battles of IBL. Relocations and marching speed are also faster. The event is one of the most entertaining events in Infinity Kingdom, and players enjoy spectating, almost like a sporting event. In this article, I’m going to take a closer look at the match between Server 70’s Infinite Tsukuyomi(GOD) and Server 477’s Thorne Saber(TS).

💠Overview

GOD enters the matchup as a seasoned IB and IBL team that finished Season 8 in 12th place and has steadily improved with each season. They consistently field between 25 and 35 players per week and have built up a wealth of experience in high-level matches. TS, meanwhile, comes from a relatively new server and is making its IBL debut. While new teams can surprise opponents, the gap in experience and organizational structure makes GOD the clear favorite heading into the match.

💠Starting Positions and Talents

GOD

  • Started with 24 players and ended with 27
  • 13 Attack talents
  • 11 Defense talents
  • 0 Support talents

TS

  • Started with 24 players and ended with 27
  • 16 Attack talents
  • 4 Defense talents
  • 4 Support talent

💠Tower 1

GOD sent 7 players to Tower 1 while TS sent 8 with one overlap. One GOD player moved aggressively onto TS’ side of the tower, but TS failed to contest the spot and instead conceded all of their front-row positions. That gave GOD far more control than they should have had despite being outnumbered, and TS’ poor spacing immediately weakened their ability to defend, garrison, and contest the tower.

💠Tower 4

GOD sent 7 players to Tower 4 while TS committed only 3. One TS player attempted to move into GOD’s space, but GOD should be able to block that relocation and deny the play. Even if the relocation succeeds, TS is heavily outnumbered and unlikely to hold the area. With the stronger numbers and better control around the objective, GOD should win Tower 4 comfortably.

💠Central Tower

GOD sent 6 players to the Central Tower while TS sent 7, making it the most evenly contested opening. Both teams appeared to wait for the other side’s relocations before trying to counter-block, resulting in nearly every spot being contested except for two. With so many relocation battles happening at once, early control will depend almost entirely on who wins more of those races and establishes position first. Whoever comes out ahead should have a major advantage in controlling the center before the tower opens.

💠Altars

GOD opted not to send anyone to either altar. TS sent one player to the Sun Altar.

💠Home Towers

GOD had one guard defending their home tower while TS had four at theirs. Having four players defend your home tower is overkill.

💠Play-by-Play

At Tower 1, GOD canceled one of their own relocations, and both teams initially focused on attacking the tower before turning their attention to each other. Reinforcements continued to pour in from both sides, but neither team made much use of rallies. Instead, they relied almost exclusively on solo attacks, many of which failed to break defenses. Despite being outnumbered, GOD was consistently dealing more damage and eventually zeroed three TS players while only losing one in return. However, neither side made any effort to push forward and surround the objective. TS simply kept sending players back, and when GOD briefly lost focus, TS capitalized and captured Tower 1 at the 18-minute mark.

At Tower 4, three TS players canceled their relocations while GOD blocked the last one, leaving the objective completely uncontested. Ideally, all four TS players should have been assigned elsewhere from the start, but once they realized Tower 4 was a losing play, canceling immediately was the right decision. GOD captured Tower 4 four minutes into the match with no resistance, then began rotating three players toward the Central Tower to reinforce the next major fight.

In the center, GOD blocked two relocations while TS managed to block three, but TS failed to capitalize before GOD's reinforcements from Tower 4 arrived. GOD drew first blood and then picked up another kill as the numbers began to swing in their favor. They steadily pushed TS into a corner and repeatedly blocked incoming relocations. TS compounded their problems by relocating too close together, allowing a single GOD blocker to deny multiple reinforcements at once. They also allowed GOD to establish positions behind them, leaving TS surrounded and vulnerable. One by one, TS players were eliminated, and with complete control of the area, GOD surrounded the Central Tower and captured it at the 15-minute mark.

At the 10-minute mark, one GOD player relocated to the outskirts of TS’ home tower, where only one guard was stationed and he was not even next to the objective. GOD then sent four marches from long range to begin capturing the tower. Another TS player relocated from spawn, but neither defender made a meaningful attempt to stop the capture. GOD secured the tower at the 15-minute mark, giving them an early four-to-zero tower lead and complete control of the match.

TS eventually committed more players back to their home tower and stopped GOD’s invasion, but the response came at the cost of losing Tower 1. With control of the key objectives, GOD built an insurmountable lead and never let TS back into the match. TS later managed to steal GOD’s home tower, but by then they were already down 60,000 points, making the play far too late to matter.

💠Summary

GOD defeated TS 100,000 to 32,300, with HASH84 earning MVP. TS wasted too much manpower at Tower 4 only to cancel all of those relocations, and they also overcommitted players to guarding their home tower before there was any real threat. They only needed to start watching their home tower around the six-minute mark, when second relocations become available. Both teams also needed to use rallies more, as the heavy reliance on solo attacks slowed the match down significantly. Despite having more players at Tower 1 and strong early numbers in the center, TS failed to capitalize, while GOD punished their mistakes and controlled the match comfortably.
