💠Introduction

What’s up, folks? With so many new legendary skills already out and more on the horizon, it can become difficult to know which skills to prioritize with limited funds. In this article, we’ll take a look at the oldest legendary skill in the game, Drastic Action, what it does, its role in the meta, and whether it's worth purchasing.

💠Table of Contents

  • Drastic Action
  • Problems and Synergies
  • Verdict
  • Summary

💠Drastic Action

Drastic Action was one of the first four legendary skills released in Patch 2.6.6. It’s a triggered-type skill that can be equipped on a front or back line Physical Damage attacker. Every six seconds after the battle starts, there is a 60% chance to reduce all enemies’ healing received by 70% for six seconds and deal 600% Physical Damage to the enemy with the least HP. If the target’s HP is lower than 70%, the damage is dealt again. The skill was considered decent when double healing supports, like Fu Fei and Theodora, were meta and healing was extremely prevalent.

💠Problems and Synergies

At first glance, the damage rate seems extremely high. It was one of the highest, if not the highest, damage rates in the game at the time, at 600% and it procs twice against targets with less than 70% HP. The high damage rate makes the Iron Fist special attribute on Attack artifacts the perfect complement and choice for damage dealers. It increases the already high damage even further. Legendary artifacts also have a higher Iron Fist effect than Epic artifacts. The healing reduction effect also seemed like it filled a much-needed gap in the game. There were only a few ways to effectively combat double healers, mainly Emperor Qin’s ultimate and Flavius.

However, one of the main problems with the skill is the low proc chance. The 60% proc chance affects its ability to deal damage. At the time the skill was released, battles were lasting a full 90 seconds, which meant Drastic Action could proc a total of 15 times. At a 60% rate, Drastic Action would realistically proc nine times per battle. Nowadays, most battles last around 30 seconds, which effectively means the skill would only proc an average of three times per battle. That heavily reduces the effectiveness and point of the skill. In each of the reports below, Drastic Action was largely ineffective and rarely exceeded its average.

In the same vein, single-target skills are largely outdated and outpaced. Every other damage-dealing legendary skill, like Knife Through Butter, Battle Frenzy, and Infinite Firepower, deals damage to every enemy on the field. Even if their numbers are lower on paper, they deal more effective damage than Drastic Action.

Another problem is that it doesn’t reduce healing enough. At a 60% rate, it needs to at least fully reduce healing. Even if it does, it pales in comparison to Emperor Qin’s ability to inflict Wound and prevent enemies from being healed. Qin is free compared to the expensive cost of Drastic Action. In the current meta, there is largely no use for more than one carry on the team with three tanks and supports. This means you would want your single carry to have three damage skills equipped, and you do not want to waste a slot on a skill that is unreliable. Qin would be able to fill the healing reduction need, equip valuable support skills, and free up a slot for a more consistent and reliable skill on your attacker.

💠Verdict

Drastic Action does a couple of things, but it doesn’t do either well enough. Its healing reduction effect is easily replaceable with Qin, and its damage can be replaced by other damage skills that do not necessarily have to be legendary skills. Drastic Action deserves a strong Do Not Buy rating for its inability to be a reliable source of damage and effect application.

💠Summary

Drastic Action was one of the first of its kind, and its age shows. The skill is outdated, and the meta has passed it by. Battles are quicker, so the skill doesn’t proc enough to justify its expensive cost. There are better Physical Damage skills that are more reliable than 60%. Spend your Divine Coins elsewhere.
