💠Introduction

What’s up, folks? Welcome back to my Illusion Battlefield League(IBL) series, where I take a closer look at different matches. The IBL tournament differs from regular IB in that everyone will construct marches and skill builds using a fixed set of skills. At different stages of the tournament, more immortals and skills will become available. Everyone has access to the same immortals and the same skills. Castle skins and Lord Talents do not affect the more fast-paced battles of IBL. Relocations and marching speed are also faster. Relocations and marching speed are also faster. The event is one of the most entertaining events in Infinity Kingdom, and players enjoy spectating, almost like a sporting event. In this article, I’m going to take a closer look at the Week Seven Point Phase match between Server 344’s SavageHunter(AWO0) and Server 345’s Lucky Country(LC). AWO0’s positions in this match will be denoted in green while LC’s will be in red.

💠Overview

The neighboring servers have put up competitive seasons thus far. AWO0 was 4-0 heading into the match. Their most notable win was against Server 38’s SSQ, a server known for its contending alliances. Despite SSQ having half as many players, their wealth of experience still makes them a tough opponent. LC, on the other hand, was 5-1, losing only to Server 73’s CUBS. They are also in the top eight and should be a dark horse in this tournament. Both teams field about 35 players per match.

💠Starting Positions and Talents

LC

  • Started with 26 players and ended with 38
  • 15 Attack talents
  • 10 Defense talents
  • 1 Support talents

AWO0

  • Started with 20 players and ended with 33
  • 15 Attack talents
  • 3 Defense talents
  • 2 Support talents

💠Tower 1

AWO0 sent four players to Tower 1 while LC sent ten, with two people overlapping two others. Given that AWO0 was the top-sided team and they were short six players in the opening minutes, they should have given up Tower 1 and tried to control the Central Tower and Tower 4. More and more young teams have been giving up the middle for early control at the other two towers, but the points the Central Tower generates are significantly better than the outer towers. You can also rotate more easily with players in the center. LC sent too many players to Tower 1, and they need to spread out on the bottom side of the tower more so they don’t overlap. Every player should have one or two teammates next to them for rallies and garrisons. LC should be able to take this tower easily.

💠Tower 4

AWO0 sent 11 players to Tower 4 with one overlap. LC sent eight. Four of LC’s players positioned their relocations on AWO0’s side of the territory. Not only will they have to travel further, AWO0’s spawn is also several units closer to Tower 4, so if AWO0 assigned positions properly, their players at the edge of the spawn should easily reach their destinations first and be able to block or destroy relocations. I dislike LC’s relocations because against teams who know how to leverage the positional advantage AWO0 has, they would lose the tower solely on the relocations. They could have relocated several units back, or just given up the tower entirely and controlled the center.

💠Central Tower

AWO0 sent only one player to the Central Tower, who relocated to LC’s side of the tower. His relocation will inevitably get blocked or destroyed. If only one person was going to relocate to the tower or any tower, the better decision is to just give it up entirely and go elsewhere. LC relocated three players to the middle, only one of whom was next to the tower. The other two left gaps and should have moved closer to control the space.

💠Altars

AWO0 sent one player to the Moon Altar and no one from either team relocated to the Sun Altar.

💠Home Towers

AWO0 had two players guarding their home tower and LC had one at theirs.

💠Play-by-Play

At Tower 1, LC zeroed two players in three minutes with mostly solo attacks littered with some rallies. AWO0 tried to compensate by sending latecomers to the tower, but they relocated far away from the tower. LC captured the tower eight minutes into the match, giving them their first tower of the match. LC zeroed some of the enemies, and a couple of players started relocating to the center.

At Tower 4, AWO0 blocked three relocations and destroyed two others. LC blocked two on the bottom side of the tower. This meant AWO0 failed to assign the right players to the right spots. LC should never be able to block AWO0. AWO0’s diligence gave them a nine-to-two advantage and free rein of the tower. AWO0 captured the tower two minutes later. Despite having so many players around the tower, they failed to zero the two remaining members in a timely manner. LC sent players back to Tower 4, and AWO0 failed to destroy many relocations. LC zeroed two players in quick succession and started making an attempt to push AWO0 back.

In the center, LC blocked AWO0’s lone relocation, giving them full control of the area. Five minutes later, AWO0 tried to relocate back to the Central Tower, but instead of waiting for AWO0’s nearby relocations to start building and destroying them, LC blocked several of them instead. It’s always better to destroy close relocations and block further ones. LC allowed three players from AWO0 to finish their relocations, and then more trickled in. For a while, it looked like AWO0 was going to be able to fight back, but LC moved several members from Tower 1 and slowly zeroed the opposition. At the 20-minute mark, no AWO0 was in sight, and LC captured the tower. They were a meager 2,000 points behind AWO0.

Meanwhile, LC relentlessly sent more and more players to Tower 4. They had about half of the team committed to retaking the tower, whereas AWO0 had significantly fewer players. AWO0 split its players to try to retake Tower 1 and the Central Tower while trying to defend Tower 4 too. It left them unable to accomplish any of the three efficiently. LC slowly pushed AWO0 back to their own side of the tower and crept up to the tower on the left and bottom sides. Ten minutes later, LC zeroed every AWO0 member who was hugging the tower and stole it for themselves. They also evened up the score.

At the same time, AWO0 started pushing towards Tower 1, where LC was poorly positioned to defend the tower. Six players were on the bottom side of the tower, but none were close to it. AWO0 relocated next to the tower and to the outskirts, where they slowly surrounded and zeroed the majority of the LC players. They stole the tower at the 31-minute mark to give themselves a slight reprieve. Unfortunately, 40 minutes into the match, LC amassed a 24,000-point lead, which meant even if AWO0 was able to steal the Central Tower as well, they still wouldn’t have enough time to surpass LC. AWO0 ran out of time, and LC was able to cruise to a win.

💠Summary

LC’s Evan was the match MVP as they took the game with 100,000 points to AWO0’s 64,700. AWO0’s fewer numbers in the opening minutes really hurt them in this game. It meant they had to undercommit fewer players to Tower 1. However, they could have sent fewer players to Tower 4 if they were able to leverage their positional advantage and provide more support for Tower 1 or go for the center instead. In general, I believe their plan to take Tower 1 instead of the Central Tower was a mistake. On the other hand, LC played really well to retake Tower 4. They knew AWO0 had fewer members, and they were able to recognize how fast AWO0 was falling compared to themselves. The pressure on the other two towers gave LC the ability and time to steal Tower 4 and the match. LC moved to 6-1 while AWO0 dropped to 4-1.
