💠Introduction

What’s up, folks? With so many new events and patches, coupled with lots of community chatter, it’s sometimes difficult to keep up. Welcome to my weekly edition of Player’s Digest where I’ll take a look at some of the recent happenings, summarize them in a digestible way, provide some context and thoughts, and help readers keep up with all things related to Infinity Kingdom.

💠Table of Contents

  • Illusion Battlefield League
  • Ares, God of Chaos
  • Squad Survival Tournament
  • Summary

💠Illusion Battlefield League

The sixth round of the IBL Points Phase concluded with some changes in the rankings as most teams will take a break this upcoming week to kick their members from their alliances in preparation for KvK. We still haven’t had many matches between title contenders, but that should change going into the second half of the phase. Some of the more interesting matches this past week included:

  • Server 38’s AoW slaughtered Server 105’s AWG.
  • Server 275’s SA narrowly defeated Server 340’s Light and Darkness.
  • Server 336’s Dark of Light beat the experienced Server 56’s LoL.
  • Server 373’s KoR defeated Server 348’s SKY.

As we approach the seventh week of the tournament, the top eight changed with the wins and losses last week. Some alliances retained their ranking while others fell, making way for newcomers.

  1. Server 73’s BUNS usurped CUBS’ first place with a 6-0 record.
  2. Server 73’s CUBS fell to second with a 6-0 record.
  3. Server 73’s ARC leaped in the top three with a 5-0 record.
  4. Server 275’s SA claimed their spot after going 5-1.
  5. Server 345’s LC retained their spot with a 5-1 record.
  6. Server 13’s TYT reclaimed their top eight spot with a 4-0 record.
  7. Server 231’s CN moved up to seventh after a break, followed by a win with a 4-0 record.
  8. Server 344’s AWO0 takes the last spot with a 4-0 record.

With most Conquest Servers and teams forgoing IBL this weekend to allow them to choose their KvK factions, many of the matchups this week will feature alliances from younger servers.

  • Server 336’s DL will battle against Server 345’s DK at 14:00 UTC.
  • Server 340’s SV will look to break its losing streak against Server M018’s IC at 20:00 UTC.
  • Server 344’s AWO0 will look to build on their win last week against SSQ with another win against Server 345’s LC at 20:00 UTC.

💠Ares, God of Chaos

Ares, the newest Chaos immortal, joined the game with the release of Patch 2.8.5. His skill, Battlefield Trample, passively increases his attack speed by 50%. On cast, he inflicts 500% physical damage on all enemies with a 40% chance of applying Frighten, which prevents Control Immunity buffs and weakens barriers by 30% for six seconds. His exclusive artifact, War Spear, lets Battlefield Trample deal 40% more damage. In comparison, when players were running Poseidon with two healers, Poseidon dealt enough damage all by himself and his skill had a 100% less damage rate. Ares is an obvious counter to Fu Fei, who has ruled the meta for so long with her teamwide Control Immunity. Ares will likely run the frontline in tandem with Anubis and replace Wukong and Yi Sun-Shin in most team compositions. With how strong support skills are, Nine Tails’ recent buff, and the lack of need for more than one carry immortal in teams, the backline will likely consist of Nine Tails and Fu Fei. Those two immortals with the new Fountain of Life skill will generate high healing outputs. As a potential counter, Flavius might be worth another look. Currently, Ares is only available in the Treasure Hunter of the Midsummer Festival event.

💠Squad Survival Tournament

A new month comes with another season of Squad Survival Tournament and new broken records. The tournament ran from Tuesday, July 8 to Thursday, July 10. The three-day event ended with much of the same faces at the top of the standings. The K00L Kids, composed of players from Server 209, took first place with 27 million points, up from 21 million last month. Hawk Tua, consisting of players from Servers 56, 209, and 231, snagged second with 25 million points, up from 16 million. Third place went to a team made up of players from Servers 56 and 131 who scored 17 million points, up from 16 million. The event was supposed to be a fun PvP mode that pits players from different servers against each other in quick 30-minute sessions. Unfortunately, it has devolved into a farming event with players from the same servers hitting each other to bump their scores up. The increasingly high scores every season are a result of that. A potential solution is to reduce the number of time slots or change the time slots entirely so more players can participate in each round and there is a lower chance of players from the same servers meeting each other. A more extreme version is to restrict teams from the same server from getting matched against each other. Of course, that brings its own set of issues and challenges.

💠Summary

Lots of changes in the top eight of IBL and most Conquest Servers will take the week off for KvK faction selection, which means alliances in Seasons 1 and 2 will get a chance to make their way into the top ranks. Ares is the new Chaos immortal who was made to counter Fu Fei’s Control Immunity and should be able to solo carry any team. Another season of Squad Survival Tournament saw new records in points.
