💠Introduction

What’s up, folks? Welcome back to my Illusion Battlefield League(IBL) series, where I take a closer look at different matches. The IBL tournament differs from regular IB in that everyone will construct marches and skill builds using a fixed set of skills. At different stages of the tournament, more immortals and skills will become available. Everyone has access to the same immortals and the same skills. Castle skins and Lord Talents do not affect the more fast-paced battles of IBL. Relocations and marching speed are also faster. Relocations and marching speed are also faster. The event is one of the most entertaining events in Infinity Kingdom, and players enjoy spectating, almost like a sporting event. In this article, I’m going to take a closer look at the Week Four Point Phase match between Server 73’s Snugglebunnies(BUNS) and Server 344’s Frozen Fury(FFS). FFS’ positions in this match will be denoted in green while BUNS’ will be in red.

💠Overview

BUNS was the runner-up of last season’s tournament and has been a consistent contender for many seasons. Their core has remained the same throughout and they also had the added benefit of having some of their sister alliance’s players for this week and KvK. They crushed their first three opponents and headed into the match with a 3-0 record. FFS, while young and less experienced, has been on a tear lately as well. They also dominated their first three matches and they are consistently able to field around 30 players, on par with many of the more competitive teams and alliances. BUNS should be the favorite to win the match simply due to their experience.

💠Starting Positions and Talents

BUNS

  • Started with 34 players and ended with 40
  • 12 Attack talents
  • 15 Defense talents
  • 7 Support talents

FFS

  • Started with 31 players and ended with 38
  • 21 Attack talents
  • 7 Defense talents
  • 3 Support talents

💠Tower 1

FFS relocated six players to Tower 1 and BUNS committed nine. One of FFS’ players tried to relocate to BUNS’ side of the tower which would inevitably get blocked. BUNS is generally pretty good at assigning players closest to the edge of the spawns next to the tower so they usually won’t be blocked at Tower 1. FFS was positioned to surround the tower, but it was premature. They needed to hover the top side and right side of the tower, zero the closest enemies, and then those in the back move to the front. I thought BUNS gave too much space to FFS. There were a couple of players who relocated far away while there were open spots closer to the tower and their teammates.

💠Tower 4

FFS sent eight players to Tower 4 and BUNS relocated ten. At first glance, FFS has the right idea. They tried to leverage their positional advantage at Tower 4 to block some of BUNS’ relocations since FFS’ spawn is closer to the tower. The idea is that the players they need to block relocations, particularly the ones on BUNS’ side of the tower, would need to be close to the edge of the spawn. However, FFS sent players who were in the middle of the spawn, negating their advantage, and ultimately would get blocked themselves. BUNS took a gambit and banked on the fact that FFS, as an inexperienced server, wouldn’t know how to best make use of their proximity to the tower. Due to

💠Central Tower

FFS relocated five players to the Central Tower and BUNS relocated eight with one overlap. One FFS tried to block BUNS’ relocations on their side of the tower which is a mistake they made at the other two towers too. Another was several rows away from his teammates. They undercommitted to the Central Tower. BUNS’ relocations could be neater. Some of the players left gaps between themselves and the tower. BUNS should be able to wrestle early control of the middle.

💠Altars

FFS didn’t send anyone to either altar, but BUNS relocated one player to the Moon Altar on FFS’ side of the map.

💠Home Towers

FFS had seven guards at their home tower and also sent five players to invade BUNS’ home tower where BUNS stationed three guards. This was a huge early blunder by FFS. Not only would their relocations get destroyed, but they would be stuck in their spawn for the better part of ten minutes. What they should have done was go to the altars and utilize the invisibility effect to relocate to the outskirts of BUNS’ home tower.

💠Play-by-Play

At Tower 1, BUNS blocked one relocation. They also had a few latecomers who showed up at the tower a minute later. They immediately zeroed another, went straight for the tower, and captured it less than a minute later. BUNS always puts emphasis on taking support talents so when they siege towers, it finishes quickly. At this point, FFS was outnumbered four to eleven. It was impossible odds for FFS so they should have rotated to the center or an altar to gather and make a play somewhere else where there were fewer people. Instead, they tried to send three players back to Tower 1. Needless to say, most of their relocations were blocked or destroyed. That still didn’t dissuade them and FFS kept sending players back to the tower for the next ten minutes.

At Tower 4, BUNS blocked two relocations and destroyed one. FFS blocked one in response. That left FFS with five players, two of whom were late. By the time they arrived at the scene, BUNS had already zeroed the other three. BUNS proceeded to destroy the remaining two relocations before they finished building and took the tower at the five-minute mark. That gave BUNS control of three towers and an incredibly early lead.

In the center, BUNS blocked one relocation and destroyed two others. They immediately zeroed another. It was the same story as the other two towers. FFS would overstep with their relocations, get blocked or destroyed, allow their teammates to die because of their blunders, and leave themselves outnumbered. By seven minutes, BUNS surrounded the Central Tower, but FFS kept sending players back without much coordination. There were too many solo relocations. BUNS are too seasoned to let relocations through, especially if there isn’t any pressure anywhere else on the map. There were instances where FFS tried to relocate next to BUNS without any teammates around. BUNS captured the tower a minute after it opened, giving them four towers. About two-thirds of FFS were stuck in spawn as well.

FFS invaded BUNS’ Tower 3 successfully with five members. The three guards were caught slacking and let one player relocate next to them and the tower instead of destroying his relocation. The other four were further north. BUNS quickly zeroed him to remedy their mistake and several latecomers joined from BUNS’ spawn to bolster the defense. With FFS losing Towers 1, 4,  and the center so early, BUNS was able to easily rotate and repel the attack. By the ten-minute mark, all danger dissipated.

Meanwhile, at the six-minute mark, BUNS was plotting their own invasion into Tower 2. Multiple players from Towers 1 and 4 relocated to the outskirts of FFS’ home tower. Instead of moving next to the relocations to destroy as many as they could, all of FFS’ players stayed around the tower waiting for their doom. Five minutes later, BUNS pushed up against the tower. After eight minutes of battle, BUNS finally stole the tower to control the entire map. In the 20 minutes, BUNS amassed a 35,000-point lead. Despite having their spawn next to Tower 2, FFS could never gather enough players to repel BUNS’ unwavering attack. BUNS cruised to a win.

💠Summary

BUNS’ Cruella was the match MVP as they won with 100,000 points to FFS’ 9,600 in an extremely one-sided match. BUNS played well except their starting relocations could use some improvement and tweaking. There were gaps and overlaps that shouldn’t happen with a team as experienced as BUNS. BUNS also allowed a player to relocate next to them at Tower 3. While insignificant in this match, it could be impactful against a better team. FFS, on the other hand, made too early mistakes in the opening minutes. The misjudgment of their relocations put them behind at every tower. They need to do better at assigning players who are closest to the edge to the furthest spot next to the tower. Had they done that at Tower 4, they could have blocked multiple relocations and would have had an easier time. Their journey to BUNS’ Tower 2 so early in the match was a mistake too. It left them outnumbered and outgunned at all of the other towers. Typically, teams will focus on two towers, excluding their home tower, and at most, three. FFS tried their hand at four and it bit them. FFS is an up-and-coming team, but they will need to shore up their strategies to contend with the better teams. BUNS move to 4-0 and FFS drops to 3-1.
