💠Introduction

What’s up, folks? Welcome back to my Illusion Battlefield League(IBL) series, where I take a closer look at different matches. IB is different from the IB League tournament in that you will use your normal teams, skill sets, talents, and decoration skins, so strength is extremely relevant. The mode is also much slower-paced. Relocations and marching speed are slower. The event is one of the most entertaining events in Infinity Kingdom, and players enjoy spectating, almost like a sporting event. In this article, I’m going to take a closer look at the Week Three Point Phase match between Server 73’s The Arcane(ARC) and Server 356’s Hope Harbor(HH). ARC’s positions in this match will be denoted in green while HH’s will be in red.

💠Overview

Server 73 had multiple alliances in the top 10 last season with ARC faring the worst. They’re an old server with some relatively new members on ARC, but they are experienced. Most of their core players are in another alliance for the KvK season so they will not be able to field more than 20 players a week. HH is a younger server with less experience in the event. What HH has going for them is that they usually have more players than what ARC will be able to put together. Both teams skipped a week and entered the match with a 1-0 record.

💠Starting Positions and Talents

HH

  • Started with 19 players and ended with 26
  • 5 Attack talents
  • 13 Defense talents
  • 1 Support talents

ARC

  • Started with 14 players and ended with 17
  • 8 Attack talents
  • 6 Defense talents
  • 0 Support talents

💠Tower 1

ARC relocated six players to Tower 1, one of whom was late and positioned on the far north side of the tower. He should have relocated closer and counted on his teammates to garrison it. HH sent four players to the tower with one overlapping two others. That person should cancel immediately so they don’t block both. Another tried to block one of ARC’s relocations on the north side, but ARC would reach that spot every time. At most, HH would have two players who successfully land. This should be an easy tower for ARC.

💠Tower 4

ARC undercommitted to Tower 4, in my opinion. They sent only three players to the objective while HH overloaded with seven. Half of them relocated further from the tower, anticipating ARC’s blocks, but ARC didn’t even try to take advantage of their spawns. ARC could have blocked two relocations on the left, but they didn’t. It would have given them a huge advantage, especially since the numbers are so lopsided at the tower.

💠Central Tower

ARC sent three players to the Central Tower while HH relocated two. In low-turnout matches like these, I would rather see teams give up the middle in the opening minutes and rotate to reestablish control later instead of spending ten minutes doing nothing there. Since neither team had more than three-quarters of their team playing, it should be easier to retake than in a full match with more players cycling through.

💠Altars

ARC didn’t send anyone to either altar, but HH had one player move to the Sun Altar.

💠Home Towers

ARC stationed one guard at their home tower(Tower 2) while HH had four at theirs(Tower 3). HH had too many players waste time guarding their home tower before seven minutes. That’s typically when players can use their relocations again.

💠Play-by-Play

At Tower 1, ARC blocked one relocation and destroyed another. They immediately attempted to take the tower and HH didn’t try to stop the siege. ARC established control a couple of minutes later. Two more HH players showed up, but ARC immediately zeroed one and destroyed the relocation of the other. Another HH followed suit, leaving only one member left. ARC zeroed the final one shortly after. From this point, they should surround the tower with three or four players and the rest should rotate to the Central Tower.

At Tower 4, ARC destroyed one relocation and could have destroyed a second, but they were too slow. HH knew they had numbers so they took the tower just as quickly as they lost Tower 1. Despite having significantly more members around the objective, HH could not deliver the finishing blows to a couple of ARC players who were one or two hits away. Latecomers from ARC started relocating to the tower which forced HH to send the players who got zeroed at Tower 1 to Tower 4. At one point, HH sent ten players to handle the three members of ARC.

In the center, the three ARC players immediately bombarded the two HH members with solo attacks sprinkled with rallies. All HH could do was try to weather the attacks. ARC relocated next to their enemies which HH should have destroyed. By the 7-minute mark, ARC controlled the area around the Central Tower. A minute later, multiple HH players started relocating to the center. ARC managed to destroy some, but the mismanagement of their marches cost them others. HH even spent a teleport to try to overwhelm the middle. ARC responded with their own backup and teleports and took the Central Tower at the 13-minute mark, giving them their win condition of three towers. The match was essentially tied.

ARC stomped the opposition in the center to firmly establish control of the match. At the 20-minute mark, one ARC player relocated to HH’s home tower where two guards stood watch. They should have either moved next to the relocation and destroyed it or blocked it before it started building. One guard made the huge mistake of relocating away while another ARC relocated next to the tower. ARC was able to steal the tower at the 23-minute mark despite multiple enemies standing around the tower. Again, three players kept a third of HH busy at Tower 3.

The invasion forced HH to move multiple players away from Tower 4 and back to Tower 3 to try to retake it. At 25 minutes, ARC saw only two guards at Tower 4 so they teleported in, zeroed one, and stole another tower, giving them all five and a stranglehold on the match. By the halfway point, ARC amassed a 33,000-point lead and cruised to a win. HH was never able to retake any of the towers.

💠Summary

ARC’s Yuno was the match MVP as they won the match with 100,000 points to 29,000. Despite having fewer numbers, ARC clearly had better skill builds. They were winning solo attacks which made the biggest difference. They were unable to quickly zero the three players at Tower 4 and overcommitted their team to the objective, leaving the Central Tower and Tower 3 open for invasion. HH could also make use of rallies and garrisons better. Had they rallied at Tower 4, they wouldn’t have needed so many people. Additionally, too many of their teammates’ relocations were destroyed next to them. Both teams should have given up a tower to better establish control over the other two. ARC did an extremely poor job making use of their positional advantage at Tower 4 but held out well. ARC’s play has clearly declined from last season so they will need to do better if they want to make it far into the tournament again.
