XEN vs TAD aka SmokersLounge

Only two games left in this training round of Siege of Winterfell (SoW) and XEN are still undefeated. The plan for tonight is to keep that going for the next two matches and finish the round with hopefully a perfect record of 6-0. They better not get ahead of themselves though, lots can happen in two matches. Today’s match will be against SmokersLounge aka TAD. Why TAD ? I have no idea. They call themselves that, so will we. In terms of power, the two alliances are evenly matched though their latest performances give the advantage to XEN.

As the game starts each team has 10 (XEN) and members 5 (TAD). Let the fight BEGIN !!

As the fight starts XEN goes straight for both Stark outposts, the Hot Spring and the Armory.

They take the Stark outposts the fastest as they are nearest to them. No fight still. They go on to take Armory and Hot spring without troubles neither. Only one fighter from TAD has come out and taken the Greyjoy outpost 2, the others have not yet moved. A tactical decision ? Problems with the players ? Who knows ? It matters not, XEN uses that opportunity to strike and get the Greyjoy outpost 1 without a fight. They only need to get back the Greyjoy outpost 2 and they’ll have every open building in control.

While this is the case, Igris Red sends down his troops to the Greyjoy outpost 2 and fights for it against the already present troops. The fight was rather easy, no reinforcements on any side but armies lacking numbers for the TAD player.

That being done, the strongholds now open up and XEN goes straight for them. The troops placed at the Stark outposts are moved to the strongholds. Some that had not yet moved now went over and reinforced them. No reaction yet from any TAD players but for safety, after conquering the strongholds XEN sends down a regiment to fully secure the greyjoy outpost and prepare in case of an attack. It could also help to see if troops were sent higher in the field than the outposts. A strategic position taken by the XEN forces to secure a smooth and secure match, allowing them to try new things.

While N0mad is normally the designated bag carrier in Siege of Winterfell, XEN took the liberty of making other players try it out for the first time. Since TAD didn’t move, couldn’t move any higher the outposts and even if they did, XEN would have enough time to defend the bag carrier. No attacks happened on any of the resources carried to Winterfell but here and there they would be attacks on the outposts during the transfer of the WF resources. Nonetheless, this helped players who had never touched the resources get used to the gameplay, that is to say pick up the bag, bring it to a controlled building of their choice but also the speed at which the resources move, which is always surprisingly slow for most players and hence the importance of choosing the building to bring the resources to well.

As another bag of resources is carried from Winterfell to a control building by another XEN player, an attack is done by a TAD player on the Greyjoy outpost 1. No problem for the Trooper who wins against the rather weak assault and stands guard easily. It could wear him down eventually so it is better to prepare and stay on alert still.

That being said, the player getting the WF resources is another one compared to the one above, another one for whom it is the first time doing it too. They learn little by little. It took time for him to understand the mechanics of picking it up and he dropped it once without meaning to but that is why XEN decided to let them try it out this time, they have time and no fight so they can learn.

As the match goes on and XEN continue the rotation on players picking up the resources from WF, punctual raids happen at the Greyjoy outposts but Igris Red and The Trooper handle them without troubles. More and more raids happen on the Trooper’s side and as his armies are getting worn down he asks for another regiment to assure control of the outpost. One is sent to him, it will be of no use but better safe than sorry.

The match comes to an end and it is an easy win for XEN. They had for the first time the possibility of moving out of the buildings and letting their opponent grab what points they could after getting 80k points but TAD did not take this chance and left the rest of match go one with a field completely controlled by XEN though without troops to defend it. Nonetheless, it is a valuable experience for countless members of XEN and a great win for the moral of their team which allows them to get very close to an undefeated record for this second round of Siege of Winterfell training grounds.
