💠Introduction

What’s up, folks? Welcome back to my Illusion Battlefield League(IBL) series, where I take a closer look at different matches. IB is different from the IB League tournament in that you will use your normal teams, skill sets, talents, and decoration skins, so strength is extremely relevant. The mode is also much slower-paced. Relocations and marching speed are slower. The event is one of the most entertaining events in Infinity Kingdom, and players enjoy spectating, almost like a sporting event. In this article, I’m going to take a closer look at the Week Two Point Phase match between Server 45’s Vanguards(Van) and Server 345’s Creating Nightmare(CN). CN’s positions in this match will be denoted in green while Van’s will be in red.

💠Overview

Van is an alliance that has extensive experience in IBL already as they hail from a server that is far older than CN’s. Van is a decent mid-tier team that can beat other mid and low-tier teams with fewer players. CN, on the other hand, is unproven. They won their first match of the tournament due to their opponents having a low turnout. Both teams should be able to field a similar number of players. Van should be heavily favored.

💠Starting Positions and Talents

Van

  • Started with 14 players and ended with 22
  • 7 Attack talents
  • 7 Defense talents
  • 0 Support talents

CN

  • Started with 19 players and ended with 26
  • 12 Attack talents
  • 2 Defense talents
  • 5 Support talents

💠Tower 1

Van relocated six players to Tower 1 and CN relocated three. Van had a decent formation, but those on the left side of the tower could have moved one castle unit closer to the tower. CN had two players adjacent to the tower, but they should have given up Tower 1 to reinforce Tower 4 and control the center. If Van focuses on rallying or CN fails to garrison well, Van should wipe CN and take Tower 1 fairly easily and quickly.

💠Tower 4

Van sent six players to Tower 4 with one overlap. CN sent five players, one of whom moved to Van’s south side of the tower in hopes of blocking relocations. Unfortunately, Van waited and relocated around him. What CN should have done was wait for Van to relocate first and then aim to block multiple relocations. CN had numerous edge spawns that they could have leveraged better.

💠Central Tower

Both teams opted to forsake the Central Tower in the early minutes.

💠Altars

Van sent one person to the Sun Altar and CN relocated two to the Moon Altar. CN sending two players is such a colossal waste of time because they outnumber Van in the early minutes so they should make full use of that advantage. Instead, they waste five to seven minutes at the altars.

💠Home Towers

Van stationed one guard at their home tower while CN had three at theirs.

💠Play-by-Play

At Tower 1, CN could have destroyed a relocation, but the player split his marches between multiple relocations. Relocations take three attacks to break. Van immediately zeroed him in retaliation, mostly using solo attacks. Despite having only two players, CN managed to stop Van’s sieges multiple times until they finally died at the 8-minute mark. Van captured the tower shortly after. Van should have been able to take the objective three minutes earlier had they just focused on the tower better.

At Tower 4, Van destroyed two relocations, giving them both control of the bottom side of the tower and a player advantage. The teams traded attacks, but Van was doing slightly better as they zeroed two players before they even lost one, one of whom was so focused on attacking that they didn’t bother garrisoning themselves. Both teams kept sending players back to the tower. Van eventually won out as they rallied better and quicker. As soon as they zeroed a couple of CN players near the tower, Van moved to surround it. After a grueling 20-minute battle, Van stopped multiple reinforcements from showing up and finally captured the tower at the 25-minute mark.

Both teams sent players to the center five minutes into the match after initially abandoning the objective in the opening minutes. However, multiple plates from Van’s Tower 1 made the first move as they were able to control the tower relatively early. CN sent more players and congregated on the right side of the tower. Unfortunately, Van, with fewer numbers, was able to keep them from approaching the tower. CN needed better builds or just simply carried out more rallies. Van occupied the Central Tower at the 19-minute mark and CN couldn’t stop them. CN had half of their team stuck in spawn while all of Van’s forces were out on the field. Additionally, six players, three from each side, were battling over the Sun Altar so CN had no players to spare and Van did a good job of wasting their time.

With so many of CN’s players committed to other objectives, they left their home tower completely open. One Van member moved to the tower at 20 minutes. He was quickly zeroed, but another Van player teleported in to replace him. The two CN guards completed their relocations and left Tower 2 open once more. This time, Van was able to take advantage. He blocked a couple of relocations and singlehandedly stole the tower. CN should have been able to defend the tower, given how many players were still in spawn. The tower gave Van full control of the map for a brief duration. Halfway into the match, Van amassed an insurmountable 32,000-point lead.

At 28 minutes, CN teleported and relocated to Tower 1 where Van left only one guard to defend. CN quickly zeroed him and took the tower back. CN would also go on to reclaim their home tower, but both victories were short-lived as Van easily retook them minutes later. Van cruised to a win despite starting and ending with fewer players.

💠Summary

Van’s Aladin was the match MVP as they took the game with 100,000 points to CN’s 27,200. Van positioned well around the towers and rotated around the map quite well. CN’s plan felt like they were trying to do too much. They should have given up Tower 1, the altars, and stationed only one player at their home tower so they could allocate more players to the Central Tower and Tower 4. They needed to use their positional advantage at Tower 4 to give them a massive edge too. CN needs to reexamine its focus on the altars and try something different. CN also needs a better shot-caller who can look around the map and direct players. Losing their home tower while half of the team is in spawn should never happen. Home tower defense should be easier than any of the other towers. Van moves to 2-0 and CN drops to 1-1.
