💠Introduction

What’s up, folks? Welcome back to my Illusion Battlefield League(IBL) series, where I take a closer look at different matches. IB is different from the IB League tournament in that you will use your normal teams, skill sets, talents, and decoration skins, so strength is extremely relevant. The mode is also much slower-paced. Relocations and marching speed are slower. The event is one of the most entertaining events in Infinity Kingdom, and players enjoy spectating, almost like a sporting event. In this article, I’m going to take a closer look at the Week Two Point Phase match between Server 13’s TYT and Server 308’s Reaper in Flames (RIF). TYT’s positions in this match will be denoted in green while RIF’s will be in red.

💠Overview

TYT and RIF were both 1-0 heading into Week Two of the tournament. Both alliances are usually able to field 15-20 players per game, but TYT is a far older server and has significantly more experience in the event. RIF is relatively young and does not have a good grasp of the fundamentals yet. TYT should be favored in this matchup solely due to their experience with early skill builds.

💠Starting Positions and Talents

RIF

  • Started with 15 players and ended with 20
  • 8 Attack talents
  • 3 Defense talents
  • 4 Support talents

TYT

  • Started with 15 players and ended with 21
  • 7 Attack talents
  • 8 Defense talents
  • 0 Support talents

💠Tower 1

TYT relocated seven players to Tower 1 and RIF sent four players. One of RIF’s members positioned himself inside TYT’s side of the tower, hoping to block a couple of members, but RIF had absolutely zero good spawns to do that. Meanwhile, TYT had significantly better spawn positions for Tower 1. RIF should have given up Tower 1 to wrestle for control of the Central Tower and Tower 4 or relocated safer. Formation-wise, neither team had good positions around the tower, but TYT was far closer. They could have been slightly closer. RIF wasn’t even close to the tower. TYT should win Tower 1 easily.

💠Tower 4

TYT sent six players to Tower 4 and RIF sent four. Since Tower 4 is closer to the top-sided team, TYT could have waited until RIF relocated and then blocked their relocations. Had they done that, TYT could have blocked three, leaving only one RIF member at the tower. Players from both teams could have been closer to the tower.

💠Central Tower

TYT opted to forgo the Central Tower and RIF sent one player to the middle.

💠Altars

TYT sent one player to the Moon Altar and RIF opted not to relocate to either altar.

💠Home Towers

TYT stationed three guards at their home tower while RIF had two at theirs.

💠Play-by-Play

TYT blocked one relocation at Tower 1 and immediately set its sights on the tower. With half of RIF’s players at the site far from the tower, TYT was able to capture it without much resistance at five minutes. RIF tried to move closer to the tower, but their relocations were destroyed. They needed to relocate next to a teammate who could garrison the relocation and inch closer. TYT blocked many relocations RIF sent from their spawn, but TYT was too quick to pull the trigger on those. As soon as TYT saw a relocation, they sent their own relocation to block it instead of waiting. Blocking relocations doesn't put the enemy’s relocation on cooldown so they can just relocate again. Nonetheless, TYT managed to clear all of RIF from the tower’s vicinity by the 15-minute mark. They could have done it quicker had they relied more on rallies than solo attacks.

At Tower 4, TYT started out by rallying and zeroing a RIF player who was off to the side by himself. They stopped RIF’s attempt at capturing the tower and proceeded to zero the next closest player. The next one followed suit. RIF could never get anything going because they were outnumbered and attacks were coming from every direction. TYT finally pushed RIF away from the tower and captured it at the 12-minute mark. With so many more players there, TYT should have taken the objective much earlier. It cost them points and while it may not matter in this match, it could be significant in closer battles.

After losing Towers 1 and 4, RIF sent three more players to the middle to secure the Central Tower. They captured it without any contest at the 13-minute mark. By this point, TYT had already generated a 6,000-point lead with 45 minutes to go.

Starting at the 15-minute mark, TYT started relocating players to the Central Tower and one player moved to RIF’s Tower 3. The lone guard at their home tower attempted to destroy the relocation, but he was several seconds late so TYT safely arrived. The guard’s second mistake was completing his relocation to the center. TYT stole the tower at 19 minutes, giving them their fourth tower of the match.

At the same time, RIF relocated to TYT’s Tower 2 and the guard made the same mistake as RIF’s guard. TYT failed to destroy the lone relocation and other RIF players started arriving. TYT tried to move players back to the tower, but their forces were split between all five towers. RIF outnumbered and overwhelmed TYT at their home tower. They stole the tower at the 23-minute mark and bought some reprieve.

TYT surrounded the Central Tower and started relocating next to the tower. RIF failed to destroy multiple relocations despite being next to them, which allowed TYT to reinforce other relocations. TYT fought down from the north side of the tower and pushed RIF out. By 26 minutes, only one RIF member remained at the objective. TYT took the tower a couple of minutes later and drove the final nail in the coffin. They amassed an incredible 21,000-point lead with less than 30 minutes left to play and RIF would only manage to hold one tower for the rest of the match.

💠Summary

TYT’s aeer was the match MVP as they won with 100,000 points to RIF’s 45,100. Some of RIF’s most common mistakes that cost them crucial objectives include their inability to destroy relocations on time and just general poor positioning around the tower. There were multiple instances at every tower where RIF just let TYT relocate next to them and the tower. In my opinion, both teams rely too much on solo attacks and not enough on rallies. TYT did a great job using their relocations to block RIF’s relocations, but sometimes they do it too soon that it doesn’t have much of an impact. TYT can also use its proximity to Tower 4 to its advantage and block multiple relocations. Had they done that, Tower 4 would have been an easier take. TYT moves to 2-0 and RIF drops to 1-1.
