💠Introduction

What’s up, folks? Welcome back to my Illusion Battlefield League(IBL) series, where I take a closer look at different matches. IB is different from the IB League tournament in that you will use your normal teams, skill sets, talents, and decoration skins, so strength is extremely relevant. The mode is also much slower-paced. Relocations and marching speed are slower. The event is one of the most entertaining events in Infinity Kingdom, and players enjoy spectating, almost like a sporting event. In this article, I’m going to take a closer look at the Point Phase match between Server 321’s Homicidal Tendencies(HT) and Server 365’s Outer Heaven(OH). HT’s positions in this match will be denoted in green while OH’s will be in red.

💠Overview

Both alliances hail from young servers that do not have a ton of experience in IBL. Neither team made the top 64 last season and I highly doubt they will be contenders this season without a great veteran mentorship. However, both consistently field around 15-20 players per game and should remain competitive among other younger servers and against each other.

💠Starting Positions and Talents

OH

  • Started with 15 players and ended with 19
  • 4 Attack talents
  • 10 Defense talents
  • 1 Support talents

HT

  • Started with 11 players and ended with 18
  • 8 Attack talents
  • 1 Defense talents
  • 2 Support talents

💠Tower 1

HT relocated three players to Tower 1 while OH sent seven. In my opinion, this was a huge blunder by HT. Not only did they not have good spawns for Tower 1, but sending only three to contest a tower was a massive waste of time. They could have given up the tower entirely and went to Tower 4 or the Central Tower instead. None of the three players were relocated next to the tower either. OH only had one player with a good spawn for the tower, but they committed seven players, some of whom moved to HT’s side of the tower. Their relocation placements are significantly better as five players are adjacent to the objective. OH should win this tower easily.

💠Tower 4

HT sent two players to Tower 4 and OH sent four, three of whom relocated to the west of the tower into HT’s territory. HT had several good spawns for Tower 4 that they could have used to block OH’s relocations and seize control of the tower’s vicinity. Had HT relocated the three players from Tower 1 to Tower 4, HT could have taken the tower with little effort. Younger servers need to realize that Tower 4 is closer to the top-side spawn so relocations from there will get to the tower earlier.

💠Central Tower

HT sent three players to the center while OH decided to give it up entirely. I think it’s entirely fine for teams with fewer numbers to give up the Central Tower in the early minutes as long as they are confident they can either hold three of the outer towers or they can rotate quickly to the center when their enemies overcommit elsewhere.

💠Altars

HT didn’t send anyone to the Moon Altar while OH sent one person to the Sun Altar.

💠Home Towers

HT had one guard at their home tower and OH stationed four at theirs.

💠Play-by-Play

At Tower 1, OH had ample opportunities to destroy at least one of HT’s relocations. Unfortunately, they were too focused on the tower to the point where multiple members didn’t even garrison themselves despite them being closest to the enemies. HT managed to zero two OH players before OH zeroed one back. OH kept sending players back to the tower, but despite the numbers advantage, they were unable to take the tower or zero the HT members. Somehow, three members of HT managed to hold off OH until their reinforcements came. OH needed to participate in rallies while garrisoning themselves. Over the next ten minutes, HT deleted their enemies from the tower and captured it at the 21-minute mark.

At Tower 4, OH blocked two relocations and could have destroyed a third, but they focused on the tower instead. They successfully captured it at the 5-minute mark. Three more HT players showed up and OH didn’t even attempt to destroy their relocations. OH tried to rally, but their attempts were too slow and HT was slowly zeroing OH and gaining ground. At 10 minutes, HT moved next to the tower and tried to steal the tower. At the 12-minute mark, HT took the tower right under OH’s nose and OH barely even tried to disrupt the attempt. Three minutes later, OH was completely wiped from Tower 4.

In the center, HT was left to their own devices and took the Central Tower with no resistance. That gave HT their first tower and started their comeback. OH was only up 5,000 points at this point.

At 14 minutes, OH started relocating to HT’s home tower where it was unguarded and landed a few minutes later. OH stole the home tower at the 20-minute mark and while HT had four players in the spawn, they didn’t start moving until a minute later. They relocated close to OH, but yet again, OH failed to destroy the relocations. HT slowly fought back and reclaimed their lost ground. Since HT’s home tower is so far from OH’s spawn, HT would eventually win the war of attrition. HT recaptured their tower ten minutes later.

Meanwhile, at 23 minutes, HT invaded OH’s home tower and OH failed to destroy relocations again. Four HT members managed to zero all four guards while only losing one and managed to steal the tower at the 31-minute mark, giving them their fifth tower of the match. By then, HT amassed a 22,000-point lead, an insurmountable number unless they could take two outer towers and the Central Tower almost immediately.

Despite having three players at OH’s home tower, HT managed to retake it a few minutes later. It seemed like HT forgot they controlled the tower. Four minutes later, OH also managed to steal Tower 1 with two members while HT still had three guards there. The two teams traded towers a few more times, but unfortunately for OH, they could never control enough towers at the same time to mount a comeback. HT would go on to win the match.

💠Summary

HT’s T#@tOne@ry@ was the match MVP as they took the game with 100,000 points to OH’s 43,500. OH lost despite having four more players to start the match. While they can improve on many things, their biggest weakness is their failure to destroy relocations. They could have controlled Tower 1 and Tower 4 in the early minutes had they just destroyed HT’s relocations. Later in the game, they could have held HT’s home tower in the same way. HT held Tower 1 well while being bombarded by attacks. They can improve on their Tower 4 positions as it is the closer tower to their spawn. Neither team used their teleports well. OH had so many players with teleports, but they somehow couldn’t generate any momentum with them. Teleports need to be used in a coordinated effort to steal a tower when you are behind or defend towers when you are ahead.
