🔷 Introduction
Welcome to part 16 of Leonidas' quest. We will be following the story of how he became one of the most formidable leaders in history and all of the trials and challenges he faced in his lifetime to get to the pinnacle of life. It started when he was a young boy and had some incredible moments in his life, which led him to be the incredible leader he is today.
🔷 Summary of Part 15: “The Troll War”
Leonidas is confident in his goddess's healing powers, which pushes him to decide something he normally wouldn’t. To rally his forces while massively outnumbered and stand against the trolls in the mountain pass. They are ready to give their lives and trust the goddess even with the odds against them.
🔷 Part 16: “Fight In The Pass”
The sun was high by the time the trolls charged, a wall of muscle and fury that crashed into the narrow pass like a flood loosed from the mountains.
Leonidas stood firm at the front, shield raised, shoulder braced against the weight of what was coming. The enemy was faster than they had expected. Stronger, too. Enchanted by the troll shaman who lingered near the mouth of the cave, chanting in a voice that made the rocks vibrate. The air felt thick with it, like breathing smoke.
The first troll barreled through the spear line and sent three men flying like straw in a windstorm. Another followed, swinging a jagged piece of stone like a club, knocking down two more before anyone could react. Panic rippled down the line.
Leonidas shouted orders, trying to restore order, but the trolls kept coming.
They were massive things, taller than any man and impossibly dense, with flesh like bark and eyes that burned with dull, red light. One swung its arm and hit a shield wall with such force that five soldiers were thrown back in a heap, groaning and bloodied. For a terrifying moment, it looked like the whole line would break.
But Ninetails was there.
She moved just behind them, barefoot in the snow, golden light pulsing from her hands. She placed a palm on a fallen soldier’s chest, and his wounds closed in seconds. His eyes snapped open. Then she turned to another, murmuring something in a language no one understood, and the man’s broken arm twisted and snapped into place.
Each time they fell, she brought them back—stronger. Her magic didn't just heal; it renewed, filling the fighters with an energy they hadn’t known they were missing. They stood taller, faster, and bolder. Some began to laugh, wild and unhinged, as they threw themselves back into the fray with fire in their eyes.
Still, the trolls did not relent.
Hours passed in a blur of screams and steel. The trolls tore through men with every swing, and the toll was brutal. For every one that fell, it seemed two more emerged from the cave. But Leonidas refused to yield, and neither did his commanders. They fought in tight formations, using the narrow pass to their advantage, slowing the trolls down just enough to make each one count.
He killed three himself, nearly lost his sword twice, and barely kept his shield arm functioning. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d breathed without tasting blood.
Then, as the sun began to dip behind the ridge, a deep horn blast echoed from within the cave. The trolls stopped. For a moment, they stood in silence, their bloodied bodies rising like towers in the fading light.
Then, without a word, they turned and withdrew, dragging their dead and wounded with them into the darkness.
No cheers came from the soldiers. Only silence, heavy and uncertain.
Leonidas lowered his sword and looked around. The snow was littered with bodies. The wounded still cried out. Ninetails was on her knees, her face pale, magic dimming like a fading star.
“They’ll be back,” she whispered.
Leonidas nodded, jaw clenched.
“So will we.”
📄 Recap Questions

They can’t keep fighting this way, relying on insane tactics, so what is next for them?
🔷 Conclusion
Leonidas seems to have gone mad with his new plan; however, it was just the right amount of crazy because they managed to survive. The love of his life has changed the tide more than he could have ever imagined. This is what leading is: choosing the hardest possible path and coming out on top.
