💠Introduction

What’s up, folks? Welcome back to my Illusion Battlefield League(IBL) series where I take a closer look at different matches. IB is different from the IB League tournament in that you will use your normal teams, skill sets, talents, and decoration skins so strength is extremely relevant. The mode is also much slower-paced. Relocations and marching speed are slower. The event is one of the most entertaining events in Infinity Kingdom, and players enjoy spectating, almost like a sporting event. In this article, I’m going to take a closer look at the regular season match between Server 139’s OZ and Server 143’s LB. LB’s positions in this match will be denoted in green while OZ’s will be in red.

💠Overview

OZ and LB have a lot in common. They both primarily cater to Japanese-speaking players, are around the same level in IBL, have similar server sizes, and, funnily enough, are allies in KvK. On paper, OZ should be significantly stronger with Sora and Hiro in the alliance, but IB is a team game, and oftentimes, more coordinated, weaker alliances can beat disorganized, stronger alliances. That said, OZ should have a clear advantage in this match.

💠Starting Positions and Talents

OZ

  • Started with 27 players and ended with 30
  • 10 Attack talents
  • 16 Defense talents
  • 1 Support talents

LB

  • Started with 17 players and ended with 38
  • 8 Attack talents
  • 9 Defense talents
  • 0 Support talents

💠Tower 1

OZ sent 8 players to Tower 1 in a clean formation, while LB relocated 5 players, with two overlapping each other. OZ could have moved a few players to the south side of the tower to provide better control and access. LB’s formation was a disaster, as too many players were positioned far from the tower, even though there were spots open in the front. Although OZ’s positioning isn’t ideal, they have more players and easier access to the tower, so they should be able to capture it more easily.

💠Tower 4

OZ sent 12 players to Tower 4, while LB only relocated 6. Contrary to Tower 1, OZ’s players were scattered all over the place. There were large gaps, and some players were positioned several rows back, making it unlikely that they would contribute significantly. While LB’s formation was tighter, they had nearly half as many players. LB should have given up one of the side towers so they could stack the other. I would be surprised if OZ doesn’t just outright win this tower.

💠Central Tower

Curiously, both teams decided to give up on the Central Tower in the opening minutes.

💠Altars

OZ sent 3 players to the Sun Altar and LB sent 1. LB sent 2 players to the Moon Altar and OZ relocated 1.

💠Home Towers

OZ had 3 guards at their home tower while LB had 2 at theirs.

💠Play-by-Play

At Tower 1, LB zeroed one OZ player early, but OZ quickly answered by using rallies to zero one of LB’s members in return. OZ took heavier damage overall and struggled to break through LB’s defenses with solo hits. Despite this, OZ did well to garrison their isolated teammate on the side, though he should have rotated closer to the main group. OZ regrouped and used rallies to zero two more LB players, leaving only two LB members standing. LB failed to destroy OZ’s relocations and allowed OZ to partially surround the tower. After a drawn-out fight, OZ finally captured the tower at the 13-minute mark, despite having a much larger player advantage.

At Tower 4, OZ immediately poured troops into the tower, and with a much larger player count, LB had no way to stop them. OZ easily captured the tower at the 6-minute mark. Afterward, OZ methodically zeroed each LB member one by one, fully clearing them out by 15 minutes. LB’s members should have moved toward the center as soon as their relocation cooldowns ended, but instead, they stayed and got picked off, turning Tower 4 into an easy clean-up for OZ and wasted their own time.

At Center, LB started moving from their spawn toward the Central Tower around the 5-minute mark. At 10 minutes, one OZ member relocated directly into the middle, and LB failed to destroy his relocation. He began zeroing LB players one by one. Despite the pressure, LB managed to capture the Central Tower at the 12-minute mark. However, more OZ players joined the fight steadily, and by the 25-minute mark, they had full control of the center. OZ’s dominance in the center opened up a 6,000-point lead, slowly widening their lead.

At 21 minutes, OZ left only two players at Tower 1, and neither was positioned adjacent to the tower. Too many OZ players had relocated to the Sun Altar. When your alliance already has three towers, the stealth from the altars isn’t valuable. Altars are mainly useful when you need to flip a third tower, not when you're already ahead. All OZ needed to do was fully surround their three towers to secure the win. At 25 minutes, one LB player teleported next to Tower 1, captured it, and zeroed the remaining OZ players in the area.

At Tower 3, one strong LB player relocated to the outskirts of OZ’s home tower and slowly moved closer, while OZ’s guards failed to block or destroy his relocations. As is often the case, OZ had left some of their weaker players to defend their home tower. 5 OZ players eventually rallied and managed to eliminate him at the 16-minute mark. LB tried again at 19 minutes, relocating another player to OZ’s home tower with two guards. This LB player was strong enough to take on all 5 OZ members by himself and stole the tower at the 24-minute mark, shrugging off OZ’s rallies without taking meaningful damage. He moved right next to the tower, and once again, OZ failed to break his relocation. It took OZ 11 minutes and 10 players to finally eliminate him and recapture the tower at the 35-minute mark. Despite the kerfuffle, OZ still held on to a 5,000-point lead and 4 towers.

LB finally stole the Central Tower and Tower 4 at the 48-minute mark, but by then, it was already too late. OZ grew their small lead to an insurmountable 19,000. With only 12 minutes left, LB could only gain another 10,800 points with their towers.

💠Summary

OZ’s た い ば ば was the match MVP as OZ secured victory with 89,850 points to LB’s 79,500. Both teams struggled with destroying relocations, but OZ’s failure didn’t cost them the match. Had LB destroyed OZ’s relocation to the center in the early minutes, OZ wouldn’t have built such a sizable lead by the mid to late game. LB just needed to hold the center for 10 minutes or so, and they would have come out with the win. Neither team did well at splitting their strongest players around the objectives. LB made an extremely good play at OZ’s home tower, which kept 10 players busy for a significant amount of time, but they failed to capitalize elsewhere. LB could have also given up Tower 4 earlier to reinforce the center or Tower 1. Both alliances seem to lack a solid understanding of the fundamentals of IB and IBL.
