HELLO AND WELCOME TO HONORS CORNER!!
Is It Time to Rethink Battle Chess?
Introduction: Is Battle Chess Worth Your Time?
Let me level with you: the first time I played Battle Chess, I thought I was playing chess. Then Merlin launched a fireball, my King waddled to the corner, and I realised—this was no ordinary game mode.
Battle Chess blends strategic deck-building, fast-paced action, RNG chaos, and the joy of watching spells fly. It's funny, frustrating, and occasionally brilliant.
But now, several seasons in, the question is:
Is Battle Chess still fun, fair, and rewarding? Or has it become just another side event that needs a makeover?
This article is the first in a series where I'll explore the mechanics, rewards, tactics, and long-term value of Battle Chess. Today's focus: what Battle Chess is, how it works, who it rewards, and whether it's due for an overhaul.

1. What Is Battle Chess?
Think of Battle Chess as Infinity Kingdom's version of a tactical arena – a real-time mini-mode where strategy and timing are everything.
You select 9 pieces (a mix of Immortals and spells) and try to outplay your opponent on a chess-like battlefield.
Your goal?
Keep your King alive while taking down the enemy's King.
It's chaotic in the best way: one match might feel like a surgical win, and the next like a spell-fueled disaster.
2. How It Works – Mechanics Breakdown
Pieces & Resources
- King: Doesn't attack, but if it dies, you lose. You can move it using Stamina Points to avoid danger.
- Immortals: Auto-fighting units drawn from your roster. They cost Energy Marks to deploy.
- Arcane Cards: One-time spells that cost Energy Marks. Useful for damage, healing, or support.
Pre-Match Setup
You choose 9 units (Immortals and spells) before the game starts. These are split into:
- Battle Zone (6 starting pieces)
- Waiting Zone (3 reserve pieces)
Only your King is on the board at the start. You gain Energy over time and use it to summon Immortals or play spells. Dead Immortals return to your reserve after a cooldown and can be redeployed.
Victory Conditions
Win by defeating the enemy King—either through Immortal attacks or spell damage. But the King is usually well-defended, so you'll need to break through their army first.
Speed-Up Mode triggers after ~2 minutes:
- Both Kings lose HP over time.
- Energy generation speeds up.
- It's sudden death. Should you manage resources better wins?
3. Ranking & Rewards – Grind or Glory?
Ranked Mode Access
Ranked matches happen during specific time windows daily (e.g., 14:00–16:00 and 22:00–24:00 server time). Outside of these, you can play casual "Entertainment Mode" for fun and practice.
Ranking System
You gain (or lose) Tier Points based on match outcomes. Climb through 10 ranks like in Arena. Your rank resets every 30-day season.
Seasonal Rewards
You get a one-time reward based on your highest rank that season.

Is It Worth It?
- Early to Mid-Game: Yes! The gems, speedups, and gold help a lot.
- End-Game: Rewards taper off. If you're already resource-rich, it's more for fun or bragging rights.
Do you play Battle Chess for rewards, practice, or just for the chaos? And are the current rewards worth the effort?
4. Who Wins in Battle Chess?
Battle Chess is one of the few game modes where money doesn't guarantee victory. Here's how different players benefit:
- F2P Players: It’s a great way to earn free gems, gold, enchant stones and rewards. Strategic play matters more than power.
- Mid-Spenders: Access to more Immortals and spells gives flexibility in building decks.
- End-Gamers: Gems and speed-ups will always be beneficial. Though, the overall rewards may do little to boost their primary march. Playing for cudos!
The fun part? Even a well-timed AoE spell can ruin a "perfect setup".

5. Room for Improvement – Could It Be Better?
Let's be honest. Battle Chess is fun—but it hasn't evolved much since launch. Here's what I (and many others) think could improve it:
- Scale rewards based on server age or player level.
- Introduce Shadow, Holy, or Chaos Immortals for deeper tactics.
- Let players ban one Immortal pre-match to shift strategy.
- Rotate Arcane Cards to keep the meta fresh.
- Offer alternative reward paths for end-game players.
These changes could make the mode more exciting, fair, and valuable across all levels of play.
6. Conclusion – Still a Crown Jewel or Just a Side Quest?
Battle Chess is a unique mode that rewards creative strategy and resource management. It's a great way to experiment with Immortals and to understand how to adapt under pressure.
But… its rewards don't scale well into the endgame, and the gameplay loop could use a few updates.
Takeaway Points
- F2P/Mid Spenders: Play it regularly. It's rewarding and fun.
- End-Gamers: It may be an idea to focus on Ranked windows or use them for testing builds.
- Everyone: Stay strategic. This is one of the most skill-based modes in IK.
- The Daily and Weekly tasks are worth doing for the RSS chests, etc and will be essential for the F2P and the mid-spender.

What's Next?
In the next article, I'll cover deck-building tips, energy management, and the best tactics to help you win more matches and climb the ladder.
So—do you think Battle Chess still holds up?
Or is it time to give the King a new crown?
Stay tuned.
