More benefits, more surprises
Introduction
Let’s talk about Elemental Protection Skills, one of the lesser-discussed skill families in Infinity Kingdom. These skills offer a blend of defensive mechanics and situational bonuses tailored to specific elements (Wind, Lightning, Earth, Water, and Fire). At first glance, they sound promising. But in reality? They’re far from meta.
This guide will explore each skill, their effects, and their potential uses. I’ll share my opinions, suggest visuals, and even touch on hypothetical expansions to Holy, Shadow, and Chaos Protection skills. Spoiler: while they exist, there are plenty of better alternatives for competitive play.

1. What Are Elemental Protection Skills?
Elemental Protection Skills are triggered abilities unlocked through the Tower of Knowledge, each tied to a specific elemental affinity. They provide:
- A base effect: A defensive or offensive boost, triggered with a chance.
- A bonus effect: Activated only when equipped on Immortals matching the element of the skill.
- At Level 1, they offer a 55% chance every 12 seconds to activate for 12 seconds. As the skill levels up, the effects grow stronger, but the core mechanics remain the same.
The family includes:
- Wind Protection: Dodge-focused.
- Lightning Protection: Stun and burst synergy.
- Earth Protection: Energy regeneration and debuff cleanse.
- Water Protection: Crit damage reduction.
- Flame Protection: Critical damage boost.
2. Skill Breakdown
Wind Protection
Effect: 55% chance every 12 seconds to increase dodge rate by 25% for 12 seconds.
Bonus Effect: For Wind Immortals, dodging an attack grants you and a random ally a shield absorbing 120% damage.
Mael’s Opinion: Dodge mechanics aren’t meta, and the RNG layers (dodge > shield > random target) make it unreliable. Agile is a more consistent dodge skill, and even it isn’t widely used.
Lightning Protection
Effect: 55% chance every 12 seconds for your normal attacks to have a 40% chance to stun enemies for 3 seconds.
Bonus Effect: Lightning Immortals stun enemies, increasing the damage of their next ultimate skill by 30% for 6 seconds.
Mael’s Opinion: While the base stun is decent, the overall chain of effects (trigger > stun > ultimate) is too situational. It might work for secondary marches or niche setups but won’t shine in competitive PvP.
Earth Protection
Effect: 55% chance every 12 seconds to remove Silence/Root effects and gain 200 energy.
Bonus Effect: For Earth Immortals, every 100 energy regenerated increases the next ultimate skill’s damage by 5%.
Mael’s Opinion: Silence and Root removal effect is good, and the 5% bonus damage per 100 energy feels underwhelming. Most Earth Immortals thrive on shields and sustainability, not energy regen, especially with Alex, main DPS in earth not reliant on Ultimate...
Water Protection
Effect: 55% chance every 12 seconds to reduce critical damage taken by 21%.
Bonus Effect: For Water Immortals, receiving critical damage heals the Immortal for 45%.
Mael’s Opinion: The crit damage reduction is great but again depends on the triggering rate of 55%...It can counter burst-heavy Immortals like Seondeok. Paired with Merlin's Ultimate and artifact, the bonus healing adds survivability—but it’s still not game-changing.
Flame Protection
Effect: 55% chance every 12 seconds to increase critical hit rate by 6%.
Bonus Effect: For Fire Immortals, critical damage increases by 21%.
Mael’s Opinion: This is the most appealing skill in the family. While it’s still RNG-heavy, the critical damage bonus can create explosive moments in fourth or fifth marches. It’s not meta but fun for high-risk, high-reward strategies.
3. Why They Struggle in the Current Meta
The main issues with Elemental Protection Skills are:
- Inconsistency: A 55% chance to activate every 12 seconds makes them unreliable.
- Low Impact: The effects, while thematic, rarely shift the tide of battle.
- Better Alternatives: Universal skills like Shelter or Adrenaline Rush or... many many others provide more consistent value.
4. Mael’s Niche Scenarios for Their Use
Here are rare cases where these skills might work:
- Wind Protection: Battles stages with frequent physical attacks or dodge focus setups.
- Earth Protection: Situational Open Arena setups with heavy Silence effects.
- Water Protection: Anti-burst strategy against crit-heavy teams.
- Flame Protection: Surprise burst in secondary PvP marches.
Mael’s Opinion: These scenarios exist, but they’re few and far between. Use these skills only if you’re experimenting or have no other options.
5. What About Holy, Shadow, and Chaos Protection?
Missing skills like Holy Protection, Shadow Protection, or Chaos Protection could add depth... What would they look like?
- Holy Protection: Blocks healing effects and reduces energy gain for enemies.
- Shadow Protection: Resists Silence and reduces magic damage.
- Chaos Protection: Mitigates random effects like Confusion or energy drain.
Would they be meta? Probably not—but they’d add variety!
6. Conclusion: Mael’s Opinion on Elemental Protection Skills
Elemental Protection Skills are low-tier and unlikely to find a place in competitive strategies. They’re fun to experiment with but ultimately unreliable and easily outclassed by more versatile skills.
Final Verdict: Use them only in niche scenarios or as filler in weaker marches.
