💠Introduction

What’s up, folks? Welcome to the Patch Preview for Patch 2.7.7. Patch 2.7.7 will be released on Tuesday, January 21. Let’s take a look at what the patch entails, the winners and losers of this patch as well as how the changes might influence the meta.

💠Table of Contents

  • Squad Tournament Optimizations
  • Quality of Life Optimizations
  • Miscellaneous Optimizations
  • Summary

💠Squad Tournament Optimizations

The new Illusion Battlefield Squad Tournament is the game’s newest battle mode where players in teams of 3 are pitted against each other in a 30-minute match. Display markers, marching routes, and gathering markers will be more discernable. Alliance members will show as green, enemies will be colored red, and allies will be yellow. These colors will apply to the World Map as well. Boost Nodes will also appear on the mini-map. Additionally, there will be a setting where you can toggle the colors to the current setup. This is a great update to the mode as sometimes it is difficult to know which players are relocating without panning along the marching route. The number of current troops and seriously wounded troops will also be displayed on the interface. The troop interface will also have more quick access buttons like auto garrison. This will allow players to know their troop availability and allow them to plan accordingly. Lastly, battle points will be doubled and survival points will be significantly increased. The amount of points a team gets for surviving until the end was just not impactful compared to the honor teams can get. This puts more onus on players to survive.

Winners: All Squad Tournament players

Losers: Those hoping for matchmaking algorithm optimizations

💠Quality of Life Optimizations

Players can now pin items in their backpacks with a limit of 25 items per category, but equipment cannot be pinned. This means you can now find the items you access most easily and quickly. While this isn’t a major update, it will help shave a few seconds here and there. Players can now also search for ungathered resource tiles through the interface. Ever been in a populated server or even in a crowded KvK where there are too many players around you and not enough resource tiles nearby? Now you can save some time by using the search function without finding unavailable resources.

Winners: Players who want to save some time

Losers: N/A

💠Miscellaneous Optimizations

Toxin Barrier’s required Tower of Knowledge level is reduced from 43 to 39 which means players can access the ability earlier. This is a blow to mixed Earth users running Hannibal Barca and Alexander the Great and teams that generally rely on attack speed. Toxin Barrier was the first answer to mixed teams and the other stopper in Weakening Curse does not come until level 51 so anti-attack speed teams should be happy. Mixed Earth teams are also now the default team most new players aim for due to their effectiveness, cheaper cost, and ease of access to the immortals’ exclusive artifacts.

Winners: Everyone who hates fighting mixed Earth teams

Losers: Hannibal Barca and Alexander the Great

💠Summary

Patch 2.7.7 is a patch focused entirely on optimizations. Squad Tournament has a number of changes that will benefit players and make their gameplay more deliberate and less tedious. A couple of optimizations will also aim to decrease the amount of time players spend searching through their backpacks and maps. Toxin Barrier will be available earlier in the Tower of Knowledge so players can snatch that skill up if they are having a difficult time against mixed Earth users.
