🔷 Introduction
Welcome to part 14 of my King Arthur series, where we are following King Arthur's magical journey that has taken a nontraditional path. There is forbidden magic, betrayal, and a dark path that Arthur has opted for. Follow along to see what he will choose to do next!
📄 Recap of Part 14: “A Tournament of Magic and Strength”
In Camelot's arena, a tournament was held to determine the ranks of the newly formed mage guard, where recruits demonstrated their unique magical abilities in combat. The competition revealed the strengths and strategies of the mages, leading to the appointment of top officials and scouts, with the mage guard now ready to defend the kingdom and uphold Arthur’s vision of a magical Camelot.
🔷 Part 15: “Trust and Tension”
The following morning, the castle's imposing stone walls echoed with the hurried footsteps of the mage guards as they escorted the four heroes—Wukong, Hippolyta, Seondeok, and Wu—through the grand hall toward the meeting chamber. The tension in the air was palpable, thick with suspicion and the weight of impending confrontation. Morgana paced at the edge of the hall, her eyes dark with frustration, while Arthur remained seated at the head of the round table, his expression calm yet wary.
The heroes were brought to a halt in front of the table, the eyes of the mage guard fixed on them as they stood, a quiet but unwavering presence. Wukong, Hippolyta, Seondeok, and Wu stood together, each feeling the gravity of the situation. The air between them and Camelot's rulers crackled with the uncertainty of what was to come.
Arthur broke the silence, his voice steady but commanding. "I’ll ask you once more," he began, his gaze locking onto the four of them. "Why are you here? What do you want in Camelot?"
Wukong, ever the strategist, gave a slight bow before responding, his voice clear and confident. "We come not as enemies, but as travelers seeking answers. We’ve heard of the changes in this land, the rise of magic’s unrestrained power, and we wanted to understand what’s truly happening here."
Morgana’s eyes flashed with disdain at his words, and she spoke before Arthur could respond. "Don’t be coy with us, monkey. We know what you're capable of. You and your companions have already left your mark on our kingdom—why should we believe you're not here to cause more chaos?"
Arthur raised a hand to calm her, his tone still measured. "Morgana," he said softly, "let them speak."
The dark sorceress shot Arthur a look of frustration but remained silent, her arms crossed tightly. Arthur then turned his attention back to the group, his gaze lingering on Seondeok and Wu. "I’ll ask you again—what do you truly seek?"
Seondeok, who had remained silent until now, stepped forward, her posture calm yet resolute. "We seek only to understand the situation you’ve created here. We’ve seen what happens when magic is wielded without restraint. You’ve created something dangerous—something that even the strongest forces can’t contain. We want to know how you plan to address it before it's too late."
Hippolyta, who had been standing silently beside the others, folded her arms across her chest. "And if you can't? What happens then?"
Arthur's gaze softened slightly, the weight of her words settling in. He looked over at Morgana, who seemed on the verge of boiling over with anger. "Morgana," Arthur said again, his voice firm, "I understand your fear. But they are not our enemies. We cannot jump to conclusions. We must understand their intentions before we make any decisions."
Morgana scoffed, her temper flaring. "I do not care for understanding. We’ve already been infiltrated by one of their kind. You know not the dangers that lurk when power like theirs enters our walls. We should act swiftly, before it’s too late."
The room was thick with tension, but Arthur held Morgana’s gaze. "I disagree," he said, his voice firm but diplomatic. "We have learned nothing if we treat these people as threats based on suspicion alone. They have not attacked us. They have not shown hostility. We will treat them as guests for now."
Wukong, sensing the growing rift between the two rulers, spoke again, his voice calm but with an edge of urgency. "We are not here to threaten Camelot. We know that power can corrupt, but we’ve seen firsthand the consequences of unchecked magic. We’ve already fought one of your own—someone who has used magic for destruction and fear. If Camelot truly wants peace, then we must understand where the power lies and how it is being used."
Seondeok added, "We seek nothing more than to help prevent what we know is coming—if we don’t act soon, the damage will spread beyond Camelot’s walls. We won’t stand idly by while that happens."
Morgana’s lips curled in a sneer. "And why should we trust you? You’ve already proven your strength, but trust is something entirely different. You are outsiders, with no stake in our kingdom."
Arthur’s voice broke through the tension once more, more insistent this time. "We cannot solve problems by dismissing potential allies. I’ll give them the chance to prove their worth, Morgana. We must see whether their words hold truth."
The silence that followed was heavy, and for a moment, no one spoke. Morgana’s gaze was sharp, filled with distrust, but Arthur seemed resolved in his decision. The tension between them was palpable, yet Arthur's calm demeanor held sway—for now.
"We will begin by offering you the opportunity to prove yourselves," Arthur said, his voice firm but tempered with caution. "We have tasks in the kingdom that require assistance, and we need individuals capable of handling delicate situations. Help us, and you will have the opportunity to demonstrate your value."
Morgana narrowed her eyes but said nothing further. "We’ll see if you’re truly allies," she muttered under her breath.
Arthur ignored her, focusing on the four heroes. "Tell me, then—what would you ask of Camelot to help you in your mission? You are here now, so let us see how we can work together."
Wukong exchanged a glance with the others. This wasn’t going to be easy, but it was a start. They had their foot in the door now. It was time to tread carefully, to prove they were not enemies—but the challenges ahead would be far from simple.
