💠Introduction

What’s up, folks? Welcome back to my Illusion Battlefield(IB) series where I take a closer look at different matches. IB is different from the IB League tournament in that you will use your normal teams, skill sets, talents, and decoration skins so strength is extremely relevant. The mode is also much slower-paced. Relocations and marching speed are slower. The event is one of the most entertaining events in Infinity Kingdom that players enjoy spectating, almost like a sporting event. In this article, I’m going to take a closer look at the match between Server 73’s The Pride(PD) and Server 139’s RIT. RIT’s positions in this match will be denoted in yellow while PRD’s will be in red.

💠Overview

PRD and RIT haven’t played each other in regular IB in a long time. PRD understands the nuisances and fundamentals of IB/L to a level that RIT hasn’t been able to reach. While PRD is extremely experienced in the event, their performance in IB/L has been gradually slipping. Some of their top players have migrated to other servers for this season of KvK so their strength will be sorely missed. RIT has significantly weaker players and far fewer active members, but their strongest players eclipse PRD’s easily. PRD should still have an upper hand due to their numbers and quicker rotations.

💠Starting Positions and Talents

RIT

  • Started with 19 players and ended with 22
  • 8 Attack talents
  • 9 Defense talents
  • 2 Support talents

PRD

  • Started with 28 players and ended with 36
  • 8 Attack talents
  • 17 Defense talents
  • 3 Support talents

💠Tower 1

PRD relocated eight players to Tower 1 and RIT sent six with one player overlapping two others. That player should immediately cancel their relocation before potentially blocking two of his teammates. PRD had several great edge spawns to Tower 1 so they moved aggressively to contest the two corner spots of the tower where RIT may relocate to. One RIT player tried to block on PRD’s side of the territory but without a perfect spawn, he will get blocked instead. Given how poorly RIT positioned themselves, PRD should be able to easily take control of the tower.

💠Tower 4

PRD sent ten players to Tower 4 and RIT sent eleven players with one overlap. PRD conceded some positions around the tower but I thought they didn’t relocate further back enough. Good teams with decent fundamentals would take advantage of their edge spawns to block relocations at Tower 4. RIT’s relocations were extremely bad. Only one person is adjacent to the tower and one player is so far back that he isn’t even on the same screen. RIT could have used their edge spawn advantages to block multiple PRD relocations but they opted to relocate very defensively.

💠Central Tower

PRD sent five players to the Central Tower while RIT decided to give it up entirely. As the top-sided team, RIT should have given up Tower 1 and contested the center and Tower 4 instead. They have no advantages at Tower 1, a positional advantage at Tower 4, and taking the center would give them their win condition.

💠Altars

PRD sent one player to the Sun Altar and RIT didn’t send anyone to the Moon Altar.

💠Home Towers

PRD had two guards at their home tower while RIT had three at theirs.

💠Play-By-Play

At Tower 1, RIT canceled a relocation, PRD blocked one, and destroyed two more, leaving RIT with only two members to defend against PRD. PRD wasted no time and collectively started capturing the tower. While taking the tower, they turned their attention to the two remaining RIT players who then used protection shields to buy some time before inevitably meeting their doom anyway. From there, some players started moving towards RIT’s home tower.

At Tower 4, RIT floundered their advantage and let every PRD player finish their relocation. RIT also had their strongest player in Hiro28 at the tower. PRD didn’t hesitate, they had more players and wanted to test the waters. When they realized RIT wasn’t knocking their units out of the tower, they decided to go all in and capture the tower at seven minutes. Hiro28 was too far and not every member was prioritizing the tower. They turned to focus on the weaker players knowing they would eventually all get zeroed by Hiro28. Players from the center and spawn moved to reinforce the objective.

PRD captured the Central Tower without any resistance at 12 minutes. PRD had amassed a 6,000-point lead in just ten minutes and was knocking on the doors of RIT’s home tower.

PRD players from Tower 1 and the Central Tower started relocating to RIT’s home tower as soon as their assigned tower was captured and secured. By 15 minutes, PRD was flocking in and the guards were fast asleep. Some didn’t even have garrisons. A few tried to destroy PRD’s relocations but they were well defended. It took numerous tries but PRD finally managed to steal the tower after they zeroed several players en route to the tower.

Meanwhile, Hiro28 and RIT were doing a fantastic job clearing most of the opponents at Tower 4. Unfortunately, they didn’t attempt to capture the tower quickly enough. Multiple PRD players teleported next to the tower and took revenge for their comrades. They held the tower until the end of the match. With all five towers under their control, PRD cruised to an easy win.

💠Summary

PRD’s Goatie was the match MVP as they won the match with 100,000 points to RIT’s measly 9,100. RIT did themselves no favors with their fewer numbers and their poor strategizing. RIT needed to rotate quicker to other towers as they knew a tower was lost and help reinforce the other towers. Their response to the invasion at their home tower was too slow and they were also too slow in clearing the enemies at Tower 4. Had they done it quicker, RIT could have freed up Hiro28 to go elsewhere and capture more objectives. PRD was largely unchallenged and didn’t need to make any difficult decisions. With the IBL tournament coming up, RIT will need to figure out how to make better use of its advantages at Tower 4.
