When Hotep opened the Vanguard map on the 5th of October, he had no idea what would happen to him in the next few hours, nor did the rest of FFS or N0X. Originally it had just been a normal day for him.

But… I am getting ahead of myself. First, some backstory is required…

When All Out War started, Hotep had been busy, it was one of the busiest weeks he had in a while, and if that was not enough, he helped EXc setting up their AoW faction as well, so he spent most of the week organizing that faction when he was in game. With only his F2P account in, it was a bit hard to do, but it had to be done. When the weekend became closer and closer and Hotep finally had less to do, he was finally able to focus more on his main accounts and the Vanguard map he had been on for some time now.

Before Friday, the only thing he had been working on there had been his gathering rank, which was not even that impressive.

In late Friday night, he then got some healing points, and not just a bit, actually quite a good amount, running all the way around the map to support a few rallies helping out their allies.

You may ask who their allies were. That's a long story, but as usual, Vanguard was split into two factions. Hotep was with N0X in the Ages faction, sharing it with FFS. Their allies were WxC and HD! in Lordsbane, HOH and LEG in Tempest, and NW1 and HHH in Justice.

When the morning of Saturday, October 5th, came, Hotep was looking forward to some more battles where he could get some healing points. He hoped to get into the new global logistics rankings, preferably in a high spot, so he could get some rewards from there.

On that day, two attacks on two buildings were planned. The first would be against a medium-industrial city held by RRH and BTa and 40 minutes later, the second one would be against the Gate of the GCM and WAO faction. With GCM annoying them all night and with the high strategic value of that gate, being the entrance to the area only shared by Justice and Frost, Ages expected them to fight hard for it.

With the way, at least without using wheat from the military, being 15 minutes long or longer, there was no way to get more heat quickly, so Hotep ran 3 healing marches to help with healing and resilience.

With 4 or 5 rallies and a bunch of healers, the Ages faction strike force was not weak but, at the same time, not unbeatable, especially if another faction showed up to help the enemy on either building.

Hotep was a little bit nervous, the group of Ages looked small to him compared to what he had seen the night before, and he did not want to lose his large medical wagons first life just 30 minutes after he first used it.

Some strong accounts hiding that were trying to attack healers did not help Hotep's nerves, even when QUEENY and Belore were able to scare them off for now.

With just 3 minutes until the first building opened, ages gathered close by, trying to scout and look for threats.

The city was quite empty, but that could not be it, right? Surely RRH and BTa were having rallies close by, and they were just not spotted yet, surely…

Then the attack started, and Hotep marched forward with his friends and allies, taking the gate and storming into the city, … only to meet emptiness.

A total of two players contested the city; everyone had disappeared, and no rallies were in sight, and within 150 seconds, the city was taken.

Not as different was it on the gate; not a single player of GCM showed up; it was as if they all just disappeared and stopped existing; although stop existing was maybe the wrong term, they for sure were somewhere, or why else did Hotep’s third march take damage?

Maybe GCM and WAO did not stop existing. Maybe instead they became Ghosts just to haunt the Gate Ages just took?

Would invisible armies now haunt Ages? All these questions ran through Hotep’s head. There was no way these 4 strong alliances just gave up when they saw the N0X and FFS forces, right? RRH, the alliance that always said they only let others win UC so they don’t feel bad, surely they decided to use scare tactics, no other way could explain it.

From now on, Ages would always have to watch their backs, being scared of Ghost Armies lurking in the shadows. Hotep himself decided to check his bubble as soon as he could.

If bubbles could help against ghosts, he did not know. Besides that, a lot of iron had to be enough. He had heard that it could work well against Ghosts. Only time will tell if that will be enough to defend against the Ghost Army…
