Introduction

Welcome back to my weekly series covering Illusiоn Battlefield Prime League (IBPL). What is IBPL? It is a tournament spanning across 5 months to determine the best IB alliance. A great feature of IBPL is that all participants have the same immortals and power, levelling the playing field, and leaving the results to be determined by teamwork and skill.

This week, we will take a look at which alliances are currently topping the leaderboards, as well as those who still have the potential to make a comeback. We will also highlight some key exciting matches between frontrunning alliances to see the tactics they employ to beat their competition.

Leaderboard

With only 4 more weeks of IBPL qualifiers to go, the stakes are higher than ever. Exciting match ups are all but guaranteed, with the top alliances being forced to go against each other for a shot at the top. A win would keep the alliance inside the top 8, whereas a loss could cause a drop of as much as 20 ranks.

Top Spot

The fight for the top spot is heating up, with a 4 way tie for 1st place. BUNS from server 73 chose to take a break this week, and remained at 5-0, while the 3 other alliances won their respective matches to catch up for the lead. Both HMB from server 56 and CUBS from server 73 had relatively one-sided matches, while SSQ from server 38 had a nail biting match against LION from 205.

Undefeated Alliances

Only 3 other alliances managed to keep their undefeated record this week, and remain one win behind the leaders. SF chose to skip this week, and remain at 4-0, while KOZ and GON won their matches this week and managed to catch up with SF.

These top 7 alliances are the only ones who still have a chance to remain undefeated and go 8-0 in the qualifiers. As they get matched against each other the next few weeks, only one alliance will emerge undefeated by the end of it.

Middle Pack

The number of alliances with a record of 4-1 has increased drastically, with 12 alliances being separated by only a few points. For some such as HOWL, their undefeated streak has come to an end, as they experience their first loss of the season at the hands of HMB. For others such as 1ST, they have managed a huge comeback to make it back into the top 10 with a 4 game win streak after losing their first match of the season against VEX.

Dark Horse

These 5 alliances also have an undefeated record of 3-0. However, with only 4 more weeks of qualifiers, they will not be able to finish all 8 of their matches, and can only get to a maximum of 7 wins. While this is enough to finish inside the top 8, they have no room for error, and have to win all of their remaining matches if they want to do so.

Key Matches

This week, there were many consequential matches between strong alliances as they fought to stay near the top of the leaderboard. Let us now take a brief look at how the victorious alliances managed to overcome their competition.

IMPK vs PRD

IMPK vs PRD was an exciting match that went the full hour, with IMPK eventually emerging as the victor. They had an impressive 40/40 attendance from the very beginning, while PRD had only 35. Despite this, PRD managed to pull ahead early on with a quick capture of Tower 1. However, this came at the cost of conceding Central Tower to IMPK.

At the 17 minute mark, PRD surprised IMPK at Tower 3, capturing the tower and giving them a slim lead over IMPK. However, PRD were unable to hold it for long, and once IMPK recaptured the tower, they were able to quickly close the gap and take the lead. Despite PRD recapturing Tower 3 again at the 45 minute mark, they were too far behind to make up the difference.

HMB vs HOWL

HMB vs HOWL was a more one sided match. Both alliances started out with around the same number of players, with HMB having 31, and HOWL having 30. HMB managed to quickly capture Tower 1 and Central Tower, pulling into the lead, while both alliances struggled to capture Tower 4.

Tower 4 was a stalemate for over 20 minutes, with neither side able to capture the tower. It took until the 23 minute mark for HMB to finally capture it, but once they did, the match was all but over. HOWL kept defending valiantly, but were slowly being overrun.

At 38 minutes, HMB captured Tower 2, activating violet breath, and securing their victory, and their spot at the top of the leaderboard.

Epilogue

As another exciting round of IBPL qualifiers comes to a close, alliances are starting to feel the heat as the competition gets more fierce with every week. Almost every match from now on will be a difficult one, and alliances will have no choice but to shift to another gear if they want to stay at the top.
