Hey everyone, I'm PO PandaMoratia. In today's article, we are going to discuss The New version of the Legion of Forsborne, which is set to go live on June 27th.
New Legion of Frostborne - Beta Version
We had a glimpse of it in the past round table that took place, but now we will have hard, concrete facts in this Patch Note.
So we start with what isn’t changed :
“The attack rules for Thermal Towers, Fog, Cities, and Checkpoints, as well as the recovery of garrisons, remain unchanged.”
Please keep in mind that the upcoming season will be a trial. The matchmaking system and faction assignments might be modified based on testing results. The new format is exclusive to servers in Conquest season, and the player and alliance criteria to enter remain the same. Now that we know what's staying the same, let's take a look at what's new!
Matching System
As the ultimate challenge of Legion of Frostborne, the Conquest Season will match opponents based on various factors such as Lord Power, historical battle performance, Lord activity, and past participation in Legion of Frostborne. This ensures fairness in grouping rules across different strength levels.
The matchmaking process needed urgent review and updating. Waiting a long time between seasons leads to frustrating experiences such as entering a dead KvK or an unbalanced one.
Faction Assignment
The faction system is brand new. There are four factions that will compete in KvK. The top 8 Alliances in Alliance Power within the same division will be automatically assigned a faction. Other Alliances will need their leader to choose the faction they want to join within 48 hours. If they fail to do so, they will be allocated automatically to one faction. Once the faction assignment option is opened, you will be restricted from server migration until the end of the war.
Federation System
Introducing the brand new Federation system! This system is designed to replace the current alliance system, providing more opportunities for diplomacy and teamwork. An alliance leader can create a Federation by using gems, and it can include 4 alliances from the same faction. The alliance that initiates the Federation can transfer leadership to another alliance if necessary.
Federation Rules
1) Alliances of the same Federation can attack cities/checkpoints, garrison cities/checkpoints/Thermal Towers, donate to the garrison, participate in rallies, defend players within the Federation, and attack players from other Federations together.
2) Players within the same Federation cannot attack each other or each other's Thermal Towers.
3) Checkpoints between Federations can be interconnected, and city benefits as well as city specialties are shared. All Federation players participating in a city siege can obtain the city's first occupation rewards.
4) If multiple Alliances of the same Federation participate in the attack on a city/checkpoint, the city/checkpoint will belong to the Alliance that defeats the last troop of the city garrisons.
5) City's First Occupation Points are distributed to alliances according to the percentage of their damage dealt. City's Continuous Occupation Points belong to the Alliance that owns the city.
I appreciate the new feature allowing us to launch rallies and garrison players from other Alliances as long as they belong in the same Federation. However, I am concerned that there are currently no measures in place to prevent two alliances on the same server from ending up in different factions, making it impossible for them to join the same Federation. This could be quite disruptive for server management and could create a lot of headaches in trying to organize player distribution and optimize server performance in KvK.
Weather System
“Weather is categorized into normal weather, abnormal weather, and special weather. Abnormal and special weather will have various impacts on the battlefield. Specific impacts can be confirmed on the weather panel.”
Not much detail is given here; adding a bit of spice and randomness can be beneficial to diversify each battle.
Cities and Checkpoints
1) Cities: City's First Occupation Points and City's Continuous Occupation Points are introduced. City's First Occupation Points are distributed to alliances according to the percentage of their damage dealt. City's Continuous Occupation Points belong to the Alliance that owns the city.
2) Checkpoints: Introduced faction checkpoints. The Ice Wall checkpoints in each faction area can only be occupied by Alliances of that faction.
I understand that now players cannot invade Zone 1 of a Faction, which is great for keeping them engaged in the battle instead of just returning to Norheim and waiting for the season to end.
Alliance Tactics
The concept of tactics has shifted from being linked to events in the game's history to being tied to the collective efforts of your Alliance. Zone 1 is a safe area, so it should be relatively straightforward to accumulate a good number of tactics points if you are part of an active Alliance. There are three main categories of basic tactics: Military, Expansion, and Defense. In addition, there are special tactics within each category that have more potent effects but also come with a higher cost.
New Events
To help Lords better adapt to the battlefield pace, we will introduce time-limited events based on the Legion of Frostborne's progress. Time-limited event rewards include resource supplies, special buffs, and more. We will provide detailed descriptions before the event starts.
Not much detail is provided. I wonder if the event will take place in a contentious area and could potentially lead to a great battle.
Victory Conditions
It seems that there's no longer any mention of Ymir or Citadel at all. Victory seems to be solely based on the occupation of the city for the Alliance/Faction and Legion Mark for personal reward. Assuming that the city still gets unlocked as the battle progresses at reset time, it will favor some time zones and push Alliance leaders to diversify their roster instead of relying on an Alliance based on a single country. I believe this is a good thing overall.
Victory Rewards
The Alliance with the highest Faction Reputation can draw from the "Divine's Prophecy." Guaranteed to obtain Manco Cápac or Himiko after 20 draws. (Subject to in-game availability)
The Alliance with the second highest Faction Reputation can draw from the "Divine's Will." Guaranteed to obtain Theodora or Tomyris after 20 draws. (Subject to in-game availability)
All other Alliances of different factions can obtain a random Holy or Shadow Immortal after 20 draws.
I like Himiko, Theodora, and Tomyris. They are now easier to obtain if your alliance performs well in KvK. I'm more moderate about Manco, who isn't really flexible and can only be played in Holy March. The problem with Holy March is that it requires more Dragon Crystals than Immortal availability. Keep that in mind when you have to decide whether to invest in them or not
Conclusion
The recent changes, like the Alliance being split into Factions, could have a big impact on server management. However, I'm excited about the new version of Frostborne. The old version was getting boring and repetitive, but the new one seems more dynamic and diverse in terms of gameplay. It also encourages teamwork and allows for comebacks. I hope you're as eager for it as I am!
