💠Introduction
What’s up, folks? Patch 2.6.5 brought us a new feature in the Open Arena. In this article, we’ll take a closer look at what the mode entails, its rewards, and thoughts and predictions about where players will take the new event mode.

💠Overview
Open Arena is a monthly event that lasts 30 days. Players get five free tickets and can purchase up to 15 tickets, for a total of 20 tickets. The first five tickets cost 20 gems each, the next five cost 40 gems each, and the last five cost 60 gems each. Multiple servers share the same arena so you’ll see players from other servers and test their foresight and knowledge of skills and builds.
💠Rules
Every player selects two out of the five elements, Wind, Fire, Lightning, Water, and Earth. Once selected, they will be allowed to construct teams using any of the immortals of that element. Then players will select either Shadow or Holy and then one Chaos immortal. The selections will remain unchangeable for the rest of the season. All dragons are available and are level 55 with default skills at level 10. Players can choose a talent but cannot activate the talent tree. Everyone will have maxed Academy Technology in Open Arena. Buffs, alliance tech, talents, titles, capital buffs, VIP levels, skins, and faction bonuses are not active for the mode. Migrating to a different server during the season will still keep you in the original bracket.

One thing to note is you cannot view defense reports after 15 minutes unless the attacker is on your server. You can view your own attack reports.
💠Rewards
There are four sets of rewards you can get. The daily reward is distributed every day at reset and consists of gold. The amount of gold you get will depend on your current tier in Open Arena, starting at five 10,000 gold for Bronze and capping at ten 100,000 gold for Master. Additionally, you can get more gold by reaching Victory Point thresholds, similar to Arena. You can get 5, 10, 15, and 20 sets of 10,000 gold by reaching 3, 6, 10, and 20 points.

Promoting tiers will also yield gems, Dragon Essence, and gold depending on the tier. You will get gems and gold up to Gold III and Platinum and higher will receive Dragon Essences. These rewards can only be obtained once per season.

Finally, at the end of the season, players will get rewards based on their rank. The rewards include large amounts of Stardust, the most coveted item currently for average players, Epic Forging Material Selection Chests, and gold.

💠Thoughts and Predictions
The mode is interesting, invites theorycrafters, and gives players a chance to experiment with immortals and skills they may otherwise not have access to. However, I believe after the first season, a meta will emerge where there will be less theorycrafting and people will start copying the builds of others they encounter.
Most players will start noticing that Holy is significantly better than Shadow so Shadow will likely become nonexistent after the first season. If you select Holy, I believe you should not select another element where a healer is crucial, like Earth and Zenobia. The three healing skills, Spring of Life, Purification, and Vitality Touch are so much better on Theodora so you will not have any healing skills left for Zenobia. Fire teams are incredibly strong on their own without any Chaos immortals so most people will likely end up selecting fire as one of their teams. With most people picking fire, Wind elements will likely not see much play. Earth and Mixed teams are less than ideal because Alex and Hannibal will not have their artifacts available which will limit their usefulness. Water could see more play with how prevalent fire has been. Lightning will always be in the picture due to Ghengis Khan’s effectiveness in dealing with healing.
Since players can see the elements that others picked but not their order of troops, some players will start noticing they should avoid players who have opposing elements and vice versa. For example, if I pick Fire, Lightning, and Holy, I would choose someone who picked Wind, Earth, and Holy over someone who has Fire, Water, and Holy.
💠Summary
While I think the mode is interesting and gives a breath of new life to the game, I also believe the mode will start becoming stale after a few seasons. Players will start finding ways to min-max the builds and there will be fewer variations. Perhaps rotating available immortals in each element every season is worth considering to force players to try to find new strategic combinations.
