💠Introduction

What’s up, folks? With Illusion Battlefield League just weeks away, I still get questions on which battle strategy talents to take and why so let’s take a closer look at each of the three talents, their skills, their importance, when to take them, and when to use them. Having the right balance of each can tip the scales in your favor and help your alliance win the match.

💠Table of Contents

  • Overview
  • Offensive
  • Defensive
  • Support
  • Summary

💠Overview

Before players enter the IB match, they are prompted to select one of three battle strategy skills: Offensive, Defensive, and Support. Once players enter the battlefield, they will no longer be able to swap skills so it is imperative to check and ensure you have selected the one you intended to take. Every talent consists of four skills that cost energy. Energy is automatically generated over time and it will generate faster if you are actively engaged in battle.

💠Offensive

Offensive talent skills are damage-focused. Players who are willing to spend healing speedups and are strong enough to defend towers on a whim should take this set of skills. The talent’s most important and expensive skill, Teleport, costs 2,000 energy to use and allows the player to freely teleport once within the next five minutes. It has a 30-minute cooldown so it can be used at most twice per match. However, if a player is idle and not generating energy through battles, they will only have enough time to teleport once. The other good skill, Hold Fast, expends 1,000 energy and has a 10-minute cooldown. It reduces all damage received by 10% for five minutes. In IBL, this could mean the difference between being able to solo an enemy and needing rallies to do so. I would save energy to have teleport available as soon as possible and only use Hold Fast when it is clear that I will not need to teleport again. These skills are best when your alliance needs to stage an attack to recapture another tower elsewhere on the map.

The other two skills, Comrades and Grievous Wound, both cost 500 energy and have a five-minute cooldown. Comrades increases the damage of all rallied troops by 5% for the next rally you start. Grievous Wound increases the number of the enemy’s wounded troops by 10% for five minutes. In my opinion, both are not worth using energy for. Comrades is too expensive for a one-time-use effect and Grievous Wound would only force enemies to use more speedups which is generally not a huge problem for players opting to play IB or IBL.

💠Defensive

Defensive talent skills focus on stalling and reducing healing speedup expenditure. Every skill in this set is valuable in certain situations. The set’s best skill, Resurrection, costs 2,000 energy with a cooldown of 30 minutes. It allows the player to fully restore prosperity and heals 50% of wounded troops if the player’s prosperity drops to 0 within five minutes. This skill is extremely good for buying time and defending a tower because players can just focus on defending the tower until reinforcements arrive. The Healing skill also heals wounded troops by 30% and costs 1,000 energy with a ten-minute cooldown. Being able to use this skill multiple times a match along with Resurrection saves a ton of healing speedups every game. It’s the main reason why most players in every alliance take defensive skills during regular IB.

Sturdy and Undying focuses on buying time so players can focus on defending towers or wait for reinforcements. Sturdy recovers 10% prosperity and Undying raises a barrier that lasts for a minute. Both cost 500 energy and have a five-minute cooldown. If you need to sit at a tower to defend it without worrying about garrisoning yourself, Undying is one of the best skills in this set to use as garrisoning a tower won’t drop your barrier. Players without many speedups or need to move around to other towers should take this skill set.

💠Support

The support tree focuses on capturing towers and preventing the enemies from capturing towers. Players who don’t mind spending marching speedups, healing speedups, and gems should take this skill set. Quick Occupy is the bread and butter of this skill set. It costs 1,000 energy with a 10-minute cooldown. It increases your tower occupation speed for five minutes and stacks. When your alliance is ready to capture a tower, the supports should send their troops to the tower, activate Quick Occupy, and call for everyone else to send their troops to the tower too. Sudden Assault has the opposite effect. It gives the player a 10% chance of reducing enemy occupation progress by 10 points whether you win or lose a battle. It costs 500 energy and has a five-minute cooldown. If you need to defend your tower from being taken, set your third and fourth marches to one troop to reduce troop losses and just send every team to attack enemy troops in your tower.

Good Fortune gives players a 20% chance to produce no wounded troops when their garrisoned troops are defeated for five minutes. It costs 500 energy and has a five-minute cooldown. Sometimes enemy alliances will figure out who is carrying the support skills. The best thing to do is to zero these players first. When all your enemies are sending their troops to zero you, garrison yourself, activate Good Fortune and, cross your fingers for some luck. Lastly, the Ambush skill increases the marching speed of your next relocation by 80% and reduces relocation construction to 1 second. It costs 2,000 energy and has a 30-minute cooldown. Unfortunately, these relocations can be blocked so the safest way to use it is to move to an altar before moving to conceal your relocation.

💠Summary

In IBL, most alliances will take mostly defensive skills and at least one to two supports per tower so they can quickly capture and hold the tower for an extended period. Some players will need to take offensive skills in case your alliance needs to make a siege at an enemy tower quickly or teleport to defend an enemy attack.
