Introduction

Aaarrr, mateys ! ! With the end of Pirate Festival event I wanted to present my results at attempting this from a f2p perspective. I will say there are other guides out there which describe the event and present their strategies and experience here and here. Check those out for details as what follows assumes you are familiar with this events waters, aye !

Rewards & How to go about them

As a free to play the reward that catches your eye is the EA chest (at conquest P6 that is attila, alex, saladin and el cid). Other servers in other season may get something else, possibly of less value. Getting cannonballs efficiently is key. Without spending gems and only doing the event's quests without compromising your pirate real life , on my alt, this is what you can get:

One of the articles I've mentioned details the kraken's HP for levels 1-40. What is important to retain is that starting from lvl 17 the monster's hp becomes 550. Our saved amount gives us roughly (20 * 3/4 * 50 + 20 * 1 / 4 * 100 + 128 * 3/4 * 20 + 128 * 1 / 4 * 40) 4194 HP in terms of damage. That's 7 levels and a half if we were to start from 17 (because the math was easier with 550 hp each level). Clearly as f2p we're not gonna make it, we need to dig into our treasure chests (a.k.a hard earned gems). There are 2 strategies here in my opinion:

  1. buy the 50hp cannonballs for 100 gems
  2. refresh the bounty quests in order to obtain traces for 7 stars which after completion give 1 metal ingredient used to make a 20 hp cannonball.

I will explore the second option because its has more depth. To get an, almost, equivalent hp damage output to the big one (50hp) you need to get 3 such quests, however to be more cost-effective you need to get them in at least 5 refreshes (because 1 refresh costs 20 gems and your threshold is 100 gems) and that would give you 60 hp damage output. Is it possible ?, you may ask, well I'll give a rough estimation from a probabilities perspective: assume you have 6 quests slots available and I assume you have a 10% chance that after each refresh an individual slot (from the 6) to get the required traces quest. Given those assumptions my computed probability that of getting 3 such quests after 5 tries is 5.3%. Well that's not very encouraging but I have made a lot of assumptions. I will plug in the expected probability to get 3 such quests if the 10% chance were to be changed to 15%: its 71%. That's better but sadly that 10% is just an assumption at this point as we don't know the actual value. Think of it this way, we have 7 possible stars for mission and traces so a reasonable probability is 1/ 14 (7%) for the 7 star traces which is lower than my assumptions. The rule of thumb at this point is to try it, leave 6 slots open and do 5 refreshes 4-5 times and count the times you get that trace quest to get an estimate of how often it shows up. Aaaarrr ! ! ! one last thing, I haven't factored the AP cost because it will balance out with the speed rewards and rss you get from traces however if you don't have enough AP you're still using gems to cover this cost so the gem cost rises again.

Bhaaarrrr ! ! ! enough with the numbers matey, my conclusion at this point is that its easier, faster and probably more economical to buy the big ammo and enjoy the ride. While numbers are one thing, in practice we face other things. So in my main i had to buy 237 (=23700 gems) to clear it earlier (on day 3), while on my alt i had to buy only 223 (22300 gems) because i waited until the last day. Add to those the 3500 unlock cost also matey. The strategy to killing the kraken is to use big cannonballs while the beast's HP is over 50 and finishing him up with the lower ones after. Near the end levels finish up what cannonballs you have left and buy in smaller quantities so you don't have waste. These cannonballs expire now ! ! !

Conclusion

If in this event you want the EA, its going to cost you around 26k gems (you recover some from the prizes but you need this amount first) or more up to . . . check fictions article (second link). Its not for the f2p matey it truly isn't but if you're a f2p hoarding gems and needs the EA's, well by Davey you know what krakens you're up against.

Find my journey on the alt on this link (spoilers: its boring) for proof about the values I've spoken: Infinity Kingdom Pirate Event - A F2P-ers perspective -

Regarding my estimation of option 2, it wasn't me , it was me parrot who did the math so if you're interested in the math explanation (which could be wrong by the way) leave some comments and i will come back with details.

Lets meet next year on the grand line Aaaaarrrr !
